wtf happened here. This is day and night.

PS4 is running at a higher resolution...yet looks blurrier? Weird. The washed out color palette can probably be fixed by lowering gamma and increasing saturation, if that's the way you want to go.

PS4 version does maintain a more consistent frame rate but it's a lot closer than I thought it would be.

Curiously, the top end is also affected, causing the image to appear distinctly washed out, as if set to limited range. This is particularly evident on PS4, which is kept free of a comparable black push to Microsoft's platform to compensate. Right now there's every possibility that it could be a capture situation, but it is worth noting that we saw no such issue on our PC captures and after returning to base, the same equipment produced a perfectly balanced picture on our PlayStation 3.

Pure post processing differences making the Xbone version pop. Crushed blacks and a sharpening filter is their answer to to resolution gap.

Unfortunately in very dark scenes you end up completely losing some elements of the image on the Xbone version.

If you like that look, buy the PS4 version and turn down the brightness on your TV settings and up the sharpness.

They both look great and I don't think many can be that disappointed with the cross gen game. 900p is a bit eh, but oh well.

You've got to be shitting me.

THIS is what the internet has been tearing itself inside out over? I can barely tell any difference without going over the images and video as methodically as possible. Surprise, surprise.

both look good...not a fan of the overly saturated/crushed black of the x1

the framerate video is what sealed the deal IMO

PS4 advantages:
better framerate - higher native res - ambient occlusion - more geometry in some places - Paracel Storm gameplay shown

XBO advantages:
higher saturation / better looking colors

The Xbone advantages are moot, as you can achieve the exact same gamma and contrast on the PS4 version by tweaking your TV setting.

It's actually a really brilliant move on MS's part, as it is obvious in this thread that people fall for the over sharpening and oversaturation. If people want that look on the PS4 version, they can use their TV settings.

PS4 isn't going to look washed out like that on most people's tvs anyway because you can always change the settings. it's a trick of the eyes but whatever. let them dream. the multiplayer footage is gorgeous.

Could the X1 be over sharpening and that's why the AA is so horrible? It would explain how textures have more of a pop too. I use to do this on my console games and liked the way it looked. The X1 version just looks different from the PS4 version with its over sharpening and black crush thing it has going on.

That's what happens with sharpening. Halos and aliasing.

XB1 shots look mostly fine, but the PS4 definitely looks a lot closer to the PC version which is the more intended look. People ordering the PS4 version should rest easy, but XB1 people aren't going to be at much of a loss. I fear for those 360 and PS3 buyers.

It probably has to do with the fact they put every machine on full RGB, they state in their article. While Jack probably didn't touch the Xbox One system settings. Like Expanded(?) mode on the 360 crushed the blacks hardcore.

Youtube is a horrible way to judge anything, ever. Especially resolution...

That said, article is revealing. 50% more pixels at a more stable framerate is huge.

It may not be readily apparent on YouTube, but the extra resolution will be very noticeable while playing.

As someone who owns a gaming PC, Xbox One, and PS4, I will be (actually already have) be buying the PS4 version, and the PC version to double dip later.

After playing 100's of ours of BF4 at a more solid framerate and 50% more pixels, turning on the Xbox One version would instantly give you the feeling that "Something wrong, this looks worse" even if you knew nothing of resolutions.

Like holding an iPhone 4 after owning an iPhone 5 for a year, the extra screen space does not seem like a huge deal, until you try to go back.

Oh man, it's embarrassing reading some of these comments.

A. Have they actually read the article

B. Do they realise what kind of effects are being applied to the Xbox One image with sharpness dialled upto 11,crushed blacks etc.

Probably not. People are seeing what they want to see, and with youtube compression and weird issues with both captures (gamma on PS4 and blacks on X1) this can all be spun any number of ways by all sides. I mean for fuck's sake people are describing jaggy images are "looking sharp." Until there is completely uncompressed and properly balanced comparison footage of both it's a moot point to argue with people. I do agree that the X1 version looks better than people probably would have expected, but if for launch titles they're already having to pull stuff like black crushing to get multiplatform releases looking "about" as good as the PS4 version I'm honestly wondering what multiplatform titles in 2-3 years are going to look like compared to each other.

I will say that I have zero interest in the campaign for this game, but I'm honestly disappointed that neither version is 1080p for the campaign. I was thinking maybe 900p vs 720p for multiplayer, so now I'm wondering how that going to turn out.

Alright here we go.

What the fuuuuuuuuuck

Despite pushing ~50% more pixels, that ~40% difference in frame-rate as well;

CANT EVEN SEE THE FUCKING GUN HERE.

Best example of crushed blacks yet. Thank you. Keep your pumped up colors, and I will keep my detail.

I guess the question becomes can that detail be regained from user adjustments? I would think so, but people are getting fooled here.

Seriously, dat over sharpening and crushed blacks on the X1.

It's like when you go into a TV store and you see 2 TVs side by side with one that has the saturation and sharpness turned up to the max.

Looks terrible. And at 720p, all you're doing is emphasizing those fucking jaggies.

Does crushed black on Xbox One need a software fix to resolve the issue or can the TV settings fix it?

I feel bad for Xbox One owners if all the games have crushed black.

Lol, who gives a shit about the single player though?
no offense if you enjoy BF single player. bad company 2's was actually decent
. The XB1 one actually looks pretty good though, PS4 looks like it's carrying the PS3 tradition of looking hazier lol.

Both PS4 and XB1 owners win, because 64 players and 60fps in multiplayer, FINALLY!!

Not sure how the MP on XB1 preforms, but the Gametrailers review makes the PS4 one sound great.

They really messed this up.

The Gamma and Brightness make the Xbox One pop...while making the PS4 look washed out.

People are reacting like they would to an over saturated TV at the stores... All while defeating the purpose of the video. PS4 higher resolution, Ambient Shadows, better frame rate, less jaggies.

>.> I can't blame some reactions. This was horribly done. It's obvious that the PS4 hasn't be properly calibrated.

There's a good reason why stores selling HDTVs UP the brightness/contrast like there's no tomorrow. They know they can fool uninformed buyers.

Despite DF insisting how superior the PS4 version was, all I saw from the images AND videos was that the XB1 version was the better looking one(too dark though). Shaper looking textures, slightly more vibrant colors, and overall notably less blurry. Well ain't that something...

I do see that peoples' fetish for raw numbers are clouding their judgement a bit. I scoffed at people who were hoping for PS4 to have some huge visual advantage, but didn't expect this. I will have to see even higher quality comparisons, but as it stands right now, the XB1 version gets my nod.

Did you actually read the article, thread and watch all the videos?
