What is this supposed to prove? That if you fiddle around with settings the PS4 version matches the XBone version? With the extra "power of the 8GB GDDR5" the PS4 has the difference should be easily noticeable off the bat without having to artificially alter anything. The PS4 version still looks blurrier too. There is no way the difference is as great as everyone was expecting.

This proves that Digital Foundry has different RGB settings for the Xbox One and PS4. That is, they have one running in limited sRGB (16-235) and one running in full sRGB (0-255).

No?

Looks like DF since everything on the XB1 version is pitch black.

Because look at the location of the top right menu item. Clearly showing the difference that xbox one was a native capture while ps4 was an upscaled capture. If they showed a true native capture on both the difference would be even bigger

GTFO WITH THIS BULLSHIT. You come into a thread that is dedicated to discussing the differences between Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and instead of offering your opinion on the matter, you round folks up and call them "console types"?

If I'm not mistaken, the DF comparison also includes PC. You have no right telling people what this thread is and isn't for.

tbh i think DICE could have gotten 1080p on PS4 is they tried.

Of course DICE could've brought the PS4 version upto native 1080p. The problem with that is, one or more things would've suffered for it, probably starting with the framerate.

DICE seems to have done a pretty good job on both next-gen console versions. It must've been a nightmare getting 5 versions of a game done. Two of which are on new consoles.

Seriously. It proves that the "washed out look" was a fault of Digital Foundry, because they recorded one in Limited (X1) and the other in Full (PS4).

If you don't know what that means, just don't even talk.

Lol the lab part in the IGN video made me think they were in diferent areas, the lighting is so off in the XO version it looks like a completely diferent place.

Guys the IGN MP caps are useless. Compressed to hell and back, killing all detail. There's nothing you can get from them.

It proved just like your avatar. More aliasing than others.

Here it is one more time!!

Crushing the levels to Limited RGB and "Sharpen More" (one time) for the PS4 picture replicates the XO results!

I hope this makes sense for you guys.

Your wish I my command!

Wow, and the PS4(Xbone version) pic looks just as sharp as the Xbone version, with the added benefit of higher resolution.

Well.. Interesting indeed..

Considering the alledged 'mess' the MS toolset is in, I was actually expecting way way worse then I am seeing.

It's honestly closer then I thought it'd be.. the aliasing is probably the biggest stand out and it's not like it's not quite noticeable on PS4 either.. Next is the shadowing, that is what actually stands out as being better on PS4, and then there is the one surprising thing, I never thought the XB1 would have better texture detail, call it sharpening, call it what you want, but in terms of the entire screen, it's still very noticeable and the only thing in favour of XB1.

Not a big deal, not massively different, the missus picked up the aliasing and difference in texture detail and thought on balance the XO version looked better.. She knows I've only got a PS4 pre-ordered for it's increased horsepower and was a little surprised to see it didn't look half as bad as I'd been making out..

Why does the Xbox One look better in that first video? Crisper.

So it isn't just me. The Xbox One version, short of the aliasing that isn't quite as present on the PS4 version, if at all (which is welcome), really does look better. If nobody told me which version was which, I would instantly assume the Xbox One version was the PS4 version. I honestly would. The texture details just pop so much more. You see it on the environment, you see it on the characters.

PS4 gets an expected win in the performance category, but both seem to perform quite well on average from the sounds of the review, although the xbox one dips more heavily in the busier scenes they described, but it seems like pretty solid performance on both, which is a good thing. I don't know what's up with the upscale on the PS4 version, but for whatever reason, it doesn't look as nice as the Xbox One version, which has to perform a much larger upscale from 720p. Whatever the case, both gamers get a good version of the game from the sounds of it. PS4 version higher resolution as expected, but I gotta be honest here. If you hadn't put any names on any of the screenshots, I would instantly assume the PS4 version is the XB0 version, just due to the way the detail seems to stand out more. The PS4 version looks the blurrier of the two. The jaggies are distraction in the Xbox One version, however, and the PS4 version's softer look seems more attractive in specific scenes. The side by side just kinda forces you to jump and react more to the thing that pops, and I keep feeling the Xbox One version looks nicer. Still, that aliasing on the Xbox One version possibly gave me a few razer cuts on my eyelids.

Both versions look great in the end, though. The Xbox One upscaler really isn't half bad at all based on what I saw tonight. I don't want to spoil too much about the game, so no more for me.

Huh those xbone pictures make my eyes feel like they are being rubbbed with rough sandpaper, while dry air is blowing, and salt and lemon juice are being dropped in my eyes. All this, along with sever pink eye.

This thread has provided me with much enjoyment. Seriously, some of the posts here have me weak. This is gonna be a crazy, entertaining console gen.

You're right but the end of the day which system is 100 bucks cheaper? I think the price difference needs to be considered when discussing these things.

If by blurry you mean isn't jaggy on every surface past 6 feet then yeah it's super blurry.

Jaggies on XBone, blurry on PS4. The point being it is not the huge gap I think many of us were expecting and I don't think it should be necessary to adjust my TV's settings to make it match the XBone version which is what people here seem to be implying.

Yeah, I think the Xbone version looks much sharper, with the PS4 version looking very washed out.

This will not stand. I wan't to scream, 'money hat shenanigans!', but I won't.

Joke right, the ps4 version is pushing 44% more pixels at that higher res, while the x1 has some sort of super sharp mode that makes things look real strange.

The better texture detail has been addressed its only in the DF version due to the way they captured and upscaled the ps4 version

lol, the pic above this post says otherwise, the PS4 version dont look much better.

As someone who has basically zero vested interest (I'm getting neither machine, although if any I'd get a PS4) I agree with you. Stopping frames and viewing details show differences but I really wonder how much it will matter in the end with third party titles.

I also wonder how many people will be playing the game on a console on the same monitor that they're using to view this thread.

Damn it's super easy to see who here doesn't know what "crushed blacks" are and thinks a picture looks better just because it's blacker. You can do that on the PS4 as well, but like DF said they purposely set their calibrations for both to match. All you gotta do is alter your contrast setting on your TV and the PS4 version will look like the XO version if you like seeing a big black circle in place of someone's face.

The problem is, this isn't audio where you match the levels and put each signal through a switch router. Both images need cleaning. X1 needs it's contrast leveled out and PS needs it's gamma leveled out also.

I would never have left them both the way they are. Unfortunately the only way to do this eye ball it. Both images with a touch of a control or two could easily be swapped in the way they look. Not to mention gamma, will destroy detail and contrast tends to look better on the surface at first glance to the human eye.

Both footages despite less AA in X1 look quite satisfactory for a crossgen title.

Man, If it takes a knowledge of compressed colors, blown out blacks and oversaturation before people notice that the Xbox version has been trashed then Microsoft has done an excellent job. Folks that purchase and play the game on the XO will be more than satisfied.

Everyone wins.
