Damn, that is a great shot.
...

I've seen this "AEJ" in a number of spots in the game. Trying to frame this was like threading a needle with a haystack!

If you guys are playing BF4 in 4k the game can't be THAT demanding. Either that or these are all the kinds of screenshots that are also in the bullshot thread.

I think DICE has a SLIGHT artistic edge, but from a technical point, Crysis eats BF4. Lack of meaningful use of Reflections and other important DX10-11 features means the scenes could have looked so much better.

This is what disappoints me the most in regards to CryEngine -- almost no one else uses it. I've been waiting for years to see what would happen if a developer with an actual good art team got hold of CE. Maybe Arkane will fit the bill.

BF 4 looks outstanding. Cant wait for Mass Effect and Battlefront :)
I hope they'll add more tech to Frostbite before those ships, like SSR or POM.
I fear for what sort of game Mirror's Edge 2 turns out to be, but if nothing else, it seems there's a chance it will look amazing judging from BF4 singleplayer. :p

It's not that demanding. As stated a few times before, BF4 uses cheaper assets to achieve similar effects that look good. The use of Low res cubemaps instead of Screen Space Reflections. Or the lack of nice Real time GI. The use of Low quality Bokeh effect. They skip around the edges a lot, which makes for a game that looks wonderful as long as you don't get too close, metaphorically speaking.

I can get away with a playable 4K. Although in Multiplayer, 30fps is not gonna cut it, eh?

These were all taken during gameplay so not super crisp or clean because I wanted to keep a solid 120 FPS. You can still see a good deal of jaggies so I am not entirely sure AA was working as well as it should or maybe I expected more. These shots might not be particularly good either but I like them.

The most glaring omission IMO is dynamic object shadowing (in reflections). This one shows what I mean.

Here it is demoed in Unreal Engine 3.

I have to say the lack of tessellation is more glaring omission, look at the sharp edges of the hat and the fingers around the assault rifle grip.

I see what's making BF4 look so great is not only Frostibite 3, but the fact that it's being used with really good art direction. It's a combination of excellent technical graphics combined with great art design that you really don't see very often. Usually a developer will rely on one or the other. The only other recent game I can think of that fits this mold is The Witcher 2.

I love how well Fear has held up. The character and gun models, maybe not so much. But overall great. Same could be said of Condemned too which still looks great
