Forbes Contributor: Reviewers Reporting Frame Rate Problems With 'CoD: Ghosts' On PS4

http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidth...ate-problems-with-call-of-duty-ghosts-on-ps4/

Collection of a few reports of the PS4 version of CoD: Ghosts having some frame rate problems. I wonder if this'll happen on Xbox One too (will be pretty disgusting if so considering the resolution difference).

Now, it appears that the PS4 version, which does run at 1080p native, is having a hard time keeping the frame rate up. Nearly every reviewer who has talked about the PS4 version describes some kind of frame rate failure. Here are a few examples:

Polygon: ”Much has been said about the fact that the PlayStation 4 version of the game runs at a native 1080p, and while that may be true, the game did struggle to maintain a steady frame rate, especially in hectic multiplayer matches. The PS3 version of the game ran into similar problems, whereas the Xbox 360 version maintained a steady 60 frames per second.”

IGN: “On the current-gen versions Ghosts looks nearly identical, though I did encounter occasional framerate issues during the single-player campaign on PS3 and PS4.”

Joystiq: ”A key pillar of the
Call of Duty experience has always been rock-solid 60 frames per seconds gameplay. On Xbox 360, Ghosts maintains this mandate. The PlayStation 4 version, however, has noticeable technical issues, sometimes slowing to a crawl, particularly during set-piece moments with multiple effects. One specific moment I was able to replicate multiple times on PS4 was a campaign scene that ran smoothly on Xbox 360 and PS3, while the game chugged On PlayStation 4. These frame rate hitches happen throughout the campaign on PS4 and, in a series known for its Hollywood-inspired bombast, it detracted from the experience.”

Why are they comparing x360 to PS4?

The sad part is that the game really doesn't look like it should demand to be in 720p on the XBone hardware or dip on PS4 hardware. Or have such stupid PC requirements.

IW fucked up.

Next-gen begins!

Seriously though, this will be an interesting development.

(genuinely wishing that both versions are awesome here)

Not that I think this shouldn't be reported, but why is it that negative things about Sony's console seem to be emphasized more.

The same outlets quoted always make sure to declare that resolution difference is not going to be noticeable to the general public, where's the same for this?

If people can't tell between 720p and 1080p they certainly can't tell 60 fps and 60 fps with occasional drops to 50 some.

Please fucking tell me if you force the PS4 down to 720p it renders in 720p.
You think the Xbone version won't have the same issues? The game is unoptimized. I just hope a patch can fix whatever issues there may be.

To answer your question, no.

I have a hard time believing that they'd go with 1080p if that implied frame-rate issues, might as well lower the res to 900p like BF4 or even 720p. Pretty dumb move if true.

This is not a problem at all. Don't you people blink? If you blink like a normal person, the frame rate will look flawless, I'm sure of it. The rapid closing and opening of the eyes will cover up any frame rate issues!

Edit: I think I should point out this is a horrible joke, before I wake up to 50 PMs telling me how dumb I am tomorrow.

I wouldn't worry. Most people can't tell the difference!

edit: it's possible the framerate stuff is not fillrate related.

Ah all this new info popping up about the hardware issues is making it hard for me to know which console to insult, instead I'll just focus my anger and confusion at the developers.

There's frame-rate drops in BF4 and Killzone (under certain circumstances). Was anyone actually expecting next-gen to keep static 60fps 1080p. If yes, your living in a dream world.

As long as CoD MP remains mostly smooth throughout, I'm really not that concerned.

They probably built it first and foremost for the Xbox 360 and did a quick port job to the other systems. I bet the Xbone version has the same issues.

If it doesn't have the same framerate issues I will absolutely call money hat from MS.

Agreed. This could be a collossal failure on IWs part as they have been spouting their "framerate is king" mantra over and over because of the Xbone version.

Because they've already wrote that off as a lost cause?

No embargo on that ver, can't talk about the Bone ver yet.

X1 embargo.

If the 720p mode is downrezzed and suffers the same slowdown, fuck IW.

Oh :S That's nuts.

Why is PS4 struggling though, BF4 (SP - not MP) campaign was apparently a decent 60fps. It's 1080p and has a lot going on! Really, CoD?

Coupled with some of those reviews, not looking like a great start.

There were lots of games on 360 that would render to different size frame buffers depending on what output resolution you had selected.

PS4 developers, if you can't hit a solid 60fps in 1080p, give those of us who value framerate over resolution an option. The option to choose 720p and get a solid framerate.
