NPD Sales Results for November 2007

I have some advice for Sony: Stop putting demos up for your 1st party games, it only seems to hurt them.

But seriously, it's pretty aggravating to see such a stellar title like Uncharted do so poorly. I hope it can manage at least another 100-150K in December. Poor ND =(

It really is a shame. I'm sure ND and its staff is compensated well for the work they did, but when a game does really well, doesn't the company see some kind of bonus recompensation? They had every right to expect a great game like that would earn that kind of response.

I was wondering why the walmart here had so many copies of COD4 for 360. I was like WTF, thre can't be that much interest in generic modern combat first person shooter (even if it does have the call of duty name). Boy was I wrong. I fear for creativity and innovation in future games (no I'm not a nintendo fan!). Although Mass Effect doing well quells my fears a bit. Anyway, looks like it's gonna be wii60 this gen.

They have. 360 was 511K Nov.2006, so PS3 is falling behind even compared to the first year of 360 in NA. World Wide is a different story mainly because of Japan.
Except that comparison is skewed. 360 had launch competition while still having a cheaper entry point than PS3 has now.

If PS3 was going up against a supply constrained 360, with games like Uncharted, Ratchet, R:FOM, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, and MotorStorm vs Kameo and PDZ... Come now. Apples to apples.

They kicked Harmonixs ass sales wise. Activision has nothing to worry about

GHIII kicked RB I's ass. But it should have buried it completely. It's a strong enough start and I wouldn't be surprised if Activision knew about it when they sent their goons to Sony's PSN Deployment Offices.

Good point, Carbon was their lone 2006 November representative. What did Pro Street do?

They've totally lost this year to Activision, but I think they've positioned themselves to do better in 08. Delaying Army of Two was a good thing.

The reality is, Microsoft launched Xbox 360 first because they thought it would win them the race with Sony, and it appears to be working, at least in NA.

It kicked its ass period. Being able to produce PS2/Wii SKUS in adition to PS3 SKU (That kicked Rockbands PS3 SKUS ass) and 360 skus pretty much buried it. That stupid patch and the Actiblizzion thing are just pileing on imo. To suggest Activiion should "Worry" is silly

they do have a moderately successful new ip on their hands whose future status is, shall we say, still to be determined.

all I have to say is the DS is selling 1.5M units in a month THREE YEARS AFTER IT WAS RELEASED!

If it wasn't cemented as cold hard fact, without a doubt it now is. The DS is the most successful video game system of all time. And if the SNES, GB, or NES are still ahead of it, it's only a matter of time before they fall.

Well, that's it folks. Night.. gonna go play PW3 on my DSL.

edit - I also love my PSP.. but thinking back it was funny how not only did many think the PSP would crush the DS, but even those that didn't hoped at best Nintendo would do some cool things with it. I don't think even the most optimistic fanboys ever figured back at E3 2004 that the DS would rise to the heights it has. Just insane.

And of course there is still the Wii.

While Guitar Hero is a monster, I would say Rock Band sales are somewhat shocking.

300K on one platform and 70K on another is really good for a 170 dollar item.

Remember how badly steel battallion bombed? Yeah.

I know perfectly well. I was just pointing out the flaws in the comparison. The climate in '07 for the PS3 is not comparable to the climate in '06 for the 360.

How many weeks was Uncharted on the NPD for? And what is Rachet's LTD?

The "weeks" argument never holds up. Ratchet's LTD is ~140-150K. It did like 85-90K October on a week, and 66K in November all month. Video game sales are HEAVILY skewed towards the first week, if not the first day. The exception is casual games.

Uncharted was on for about 2 weeks, same as Mass Effect.

man it would of been something to see wii break the 1 million mark but still.. damn, that thing is selling like hot cakes. I dont know what nintendo did to make this system such a huge seller but what ever they are doing.. dont stop, thats one money making machine. I guess its the uniqueness of the machine and it fits well with the family.. a machine the entire family can enjoy..

Any ways..nice 360 numbers too.. the ps3, well i dont know what to think.. thats good that its atleast past 4k but it should be much closer to 360.

I think the 360 is gonna make a HUGE killing with its software sales though.. the amount of AAA games it has is remarkable..

Is it safe to say including bluray in PS3 was a mistake yet? Wasnt that the main cause of the delayed launch and insane price.

i think your perspective has a lot to say about that. if the ps3 is a games machine first and foremost, yes. if it is a blu-ray trojan horse that turns the hi-def movie war into a bank for sony, no. who knows what sony wanted or expected. who the freak knows.

35K for Zack and Wiki. :(

I think that's what I'll be doing, buying every one of my friends that game for this christmas.
what's zack and wiki at ltd? it should have had three weeks of sales before this 35K.

Bigger picture, who knows because as the flagship BD player it may be helping the Blu-ray movie format a lot. So that's good for Sony. But on the game side, yeah it's directly linked to the $599 price, which in turn has been the source of almost all the PS3's woes to date.

If many people are buying the PS3 as just a BD player, that might help explain why game sales remain piss-poor despite improving hardware sales.

Pretty respectable numbers for the 360 version given the supply. PS3 version didn't do too great though.

anyone stop to think that MAYBE there were more limited quantities on the ps3 version since they knew it had a smaller instal base?

Jesus if i could FIND a ps3 S-E it would already be bought.

IGN: Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure continues to struggle at retail with less than 35,000 total sales.

Wow, PSP numbers really surprised me, and i'm surprised how close PS3 numbers were to projections. Software's the real shocker, though. Amazing numbers for both Call of Duty 4 and Assassin's Creed on both 360 and PS3.

Yep. The format wasn't the problem, it was the added cost and the relative asociated benefit. Ironically, adding Blu Ray can almost certainly be seen as the one thing that definitely damaged the PS3 as a games machine.

Anyway, if PS3 somehow ends up crawling back from the brink, we can all then say including Blu Ray was a long term strategy that eventually worked.

Where are people getting the extra software figures from for games outside the top 10?

I don't want to go through 15+ pages...

matt over at ign revealed a few of the wii numbers, driley has dropped a couple of the ps3 games, and others have trickled in from other legit sources, can't remember which ones.

How is hating a theme that has been done to death blind hating? I like first person shooters. But this shit was already old years ago.

To defend CoD4 a bit, the single player is not that much more creative than previous rollercoaster ride CoD's in some ways, but at times much more creative. As well the multiplayer is a very creative new way of doing things. The title is deeper than it appears.

The PS3 is just getting screwed in so many ways. Poor hardware sales means less 3rd party exclusives, which means lower hardware sales. Poor software sales means reduced availability, which means poor sales. Chicken & Egg is killing the PS3.
