Day 1 patch makes COD: Ghosts SP 1080p on PS4, is 720p without patch

izeQSvMdtZpAU.gif

Needs to be re-quoted. One of the few bright spots about this whole farce.

So in other words the people who were jumping down reviewers throats saying they didnt see a visual difference between the two platforms when reviewing single player better be eating crow.

At the same time the reviewers need to update this and reflect that the output res will be changed with the day 1 patch, and then do a graphics review once they have the patch and ultimately update their reviews.

On a side note, has anyone considered doing screen caps of before and after day one patch so we can see the true 720 vs 1080 difference? This would be a good comparison because it is done on the exact same platform and effects should be the same, could also prove whether or not there are added effects between either of the two consoles

So if I'm understanding correctly, here's what happened:

1. Polygon compared only the multiplayer resolutions, PS4's being 1080p and Xbox One's being 720p, and could not tell the difference.
2. Polygon REVIEWED both the multiplayer and single player.
3. NO ONE besides a guy named Quaz and Infinity Ward noticed / stated that PS4's single player was actually 720p.
4. SOME reviewers wrongly claimed PS4's resolution looked sharper, even in single player.
5. A lot of people look like dumbfaces and a minute few got it right.

Wow, this is a shitstorm of shittiness.

  1. IW says Ghosts is 1080p on PS4 (implying both SP and MP): they straight out lie (out of the box).
  2. Activision and/or IW don't tell the press about the resolution problem: sleazy move.
  3. Most reviewers see a difference in resolution in SP, where there's none: they have no tech knowledge whatsoever and are a joke, even gaffers noticed.
  4. Polygon's actually WORSE, because they compared the graphics in MP only (why?), where it's 1080p-PS4 and 720p-XO: saw no difference.
  5. Day one patch with resolution update, so they screw over who forked the money, yet doesn't have/want to connect the PS4 to internet: preposterous.
This is a shame for all the industry and an horrible way to start next-gen.

Okay so Polygon did the comparison in MP, where PS4 always was 1080p, and everyone else who claimed the PS4 was way sharper was actually playing a 720p? Haha, oh man. Ghosts trolling reviewers.

That and because they couldn't tell a damn difference between the 720p in the SP modes. If they don't give it a higher score now they can fuck off.

Again, Polygon's graphical comparison was based on MP only. They were looking at 720p vs. 1080p and still couldn't tell the difference, by their own admittance.

So no, Polygon doesn't come out of this unscathed, even though they had the perfect opportunity to lie and gloat.

Why is it that GAF acts like the video game industry is some kind of union where you bribe to sabotage projects? IW screwed up by lying, and journalists proved they don't have the ability to properly review games. Simple as that.

You don't just find out your game can do twice as much like that. The difference is too big. They had to know it BEFORE the reviews. So why let the reviews run THEN patch. MS was certainly happy about that.

Addendum between points three and four: Some crassly mock the outlets which correctly explained they had difficulty seeing noticeable, if any, resolution difference between the PS4 and X1 versions of the game, despite reassurances from parties involved that the game was native 1080p on PS4.

It was native 1080p in multiplayer which should have been at least half of what they played at the event.

Why do people like you keep ignoring that fact?

So we have journalists who:

- Could tell the difference between 720p and "1080p" SP.

To be perfectly honest none of them come out of this looking good.

I wouldn't say that. They said this only effect retail units. If there review was based on a debug unit, it might have been running in 1080p on SP mode for them. We'd have to establish if they are using a retail version or not before jumping the gun on that one.

and "5"
some posters manage to miss every single post with proof that at least one ustifiably mocked outlet judged PS4 graphics based on the MP, which does run a native 1080p.

Not sure if it's been touched upon, but if it was reviewed at 720 and there were framedrops, won't this just... you know... hurt it more?

Just wondering... for the people that lambasted the reviewers saying they should get their eyes checked cause they couldn't tell the difference between the Xbone and PS4 version : are you going to eat some crow?

No crow to eat.

I said if you can't tell the difference between 720P and 1080p you should see an optometrist. That's still true.

Game of the Year.

Said absolutely, fucking no-one.

Infinity Ward, as a developer you should feel shame. No, seriously, if you are reading this. You are an utter disappointment.

How could someone MAJOR like resolution 'accidentaly' slip like this?

Hate to bring up conspiracy stuff, but doing it anyway: maybe they tried to 'downscale' PS4 version to 720p, so to not make Xbone version look bad?

Still doesn't make much sense, what a weird story.

You're assuming quite a bit there.

Edited my post.

Now I have a new question.

Why in the world is ANYONE giving a review score based ONLY on multiplayer?

Are you guys saying they NEVER looked at single player? They only gave any attention to resolution while playing multi if they did play single player.

Again...who writes a review for a whole game based just on multiplayer?

This is what make it even more funny they could not see the difference in MP .
When it came to SP ( if they played it) they did not notice the res lower than MP either .
All around the gaming press really are a joke .

Haha so Polygon redeemed lol. Much deserved crow for the people who called them out for not noticing a difference.

playing devils advocate here.

It would be pretty bad press for Sony for them to come out and say "The PS4 version will be patched day one to get to 1080p but for now its only running in 1080p on multiplayer"

people would have been all over Sony.. its lose lose

but IW should have been up front about the entire thing.

I have a REALLY hard time noticing the resolution I have when I am playing games. I don't even know at what resolution most of my games play. I also dont really care much about fps as long as it is locked at some number.

This has shown that most people think they see diferences in places where there are known. And that for most people 1080 is about the same as 720.

Now, clearly some gaffers have a trained eye and found it immediatly, but that was what, 5% of people that saw a diference?

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
What the fuck are they even doing over at IW.

Like... I know we had a "stop calling developers lazy" thread, but like... what in the actual fuck. Presumably this version went through no test at all towards the end? Just "huh, is something wrong?" "YES SIR, ALL THE P'S APPEAR TO BE MISSING"

Wait, so now Polygon is defending themselves claiming they only played MP ?

And...wait, they reviewed the game and it wasn't mentioned anywhere that their review only covered Multiplayer.

Man, what a mess.
So much fail.

Just a question: Is the Xbox One version getting a day 1 1080p patch as well?

If not, what are the Xbox fanboys celebrating?

No. This is incorrect. Polygon deserve to be ridiculed as far as I can tell. They couldn't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p as was originally stated.

OMG! ALL THE PEOPLE THAT JUMPED STRAIGHT AWAY AT POLYGON'S NECK!

This is absolutely amazing! I'm laughing out loud!

Really? How can Polygon not see the difference when IGN clearly claims there is a huge difference!!!!

oh wait? moneyhats? something something?

The framerate - is that going to be fixed?

Game reviews from "journalists" remain a joke. News at 11. I find it funny not one company notices this but GAF figures it out in 5 seconds. They're more focused on wobbling and MP3 support.

Can't wait for FPS comparisons for some more LOL.

Will someone who has been following the story from the beginning please summarize the events using quotes and citing sources? That would be very, very helpful.
