Knack Review Thread

Anyone else think the very low score reviews for this game are overly harsh after watching some streams? I've been watching the Shu Yoshida stream playing Knack for the past 20 minutes and it looks like a fun little game tbh.

Yeah it seems weird to be honest, I only played about 10-15 minutes of it, but it felt like a 7.5 at worst, I can't say 10 minutes can reflect a 10 hour game, but I've seen some varied environments, levels and enemies in streams, so I don't imagine it's suddenly shit the more you play. I will judge for myself though.

People will find the Rev 3 review to be the most accurate by this time next week. Crap story and dialogue. Very tough. Quite fun. Cool levels. Fun bosses. 3/5.

I think Vita games have sold well proportionally to the number of consoles out. I think it has a good attach rate. The problem is system isn't selling so the max sales potential is limited.

I'm curious though. Are those games Vita exclusive titles or cross buy downloadable titles you can play on PS3/Vita?

the giantbomb QL sold me on it. I already have KZ,AC, and NBA but I think I will be picking up Knack with the console.

It's a next gen console launch. If your going to blow money, blow big.

That's the impression of it I have gotten from watching streams. I'm still not sure if I'm going to open my copy or sell it. I keep going back and forth.

I was watching the giantbomb quicklook and those guys were pretty down on it, but I thought it looked fun. Can't wait to try it coop. That should alleviate some of the difficulty.

everytime i watch something for this game be it a review or a vid, giant bombs quick look, whatever. i hear what they're saying and in most cases i feel they are true. but as far as launch titles go, i'm kinda stoked on this new console euphoria to where a basic attack list game that sticks to standard conventions and has pretty visuals but nothing dropping everyones jaw that can have a pretty strong level of difficulty leading to repetition with another new story to take in and assess actually sounds like a good clean fun time to me. i'm gonna die and die and die until i know exactly what double jumps, dodges and strikes will take out a wave flawlessly. i think the enemy variety that i've seen so far in videos and when pairing certain ones with others seems like a perfectly acceptable combat puzzle, if you will. we'll see how i feel of course when all is said and done, but i'm still very much optimistic.

You wrote something eerily similar about how I was looking at the game before playing it. After spending a couple of hours with it -- I think you'll be happy, like I was.

Have you tried this? On paper it sounds ok. It even looks ok on videos. But the truth is its boring. Its not a good game, and its certainly not worth $60. Launch euphoria or not.

I'm like 4 levels (little less than half way?) in and the game is fun. Simple, but fun. If you enjoy those Lego games, you'd probably enjoy Knack.

If it means anything to anyone, I played those 4 levels straight in one sitting and I kind of forced myself to quit because it's time for bed... otherwise i could have kept going quite easily.

Those low low review scores are pretty unfair because while the game isn't for everyone, it is a game of some quality. 3/5 seems like it's about right.

i dont really have any interest in the game, but i find it sort of weird that people are lambasting the game in the way they are. the game isn't meant for core gamers as much as it is for "family play" and "game that isn't a shooter" crowds.

This is probably going to be a bargain bin game pretty soon, but i think it serves its purpose as a launch title fairly well -- there's not a lot of competition at the moment, so anything released is going to sell a lot.

I find it hard to believe as first chapter I have seen made the game million times more interesting than other games coming out now. I actually enjoyed it more than most animated films.

Edit. Where are all the walktroughs. I am dying to watch them.

I'm sure it will be fun especially with co op.

That audience argument is such utter bullshit.

Sounds pretty good.

I find myself even liking the rather charming and pretty (the sky shots in the plane cutscene were really nice for example), but obviously simple dialogue, story sequences I've seen on Twitch thanks to the nice voices and animation so I think I'll have fun with it.

Exactly. The big problem for Knack (disclaimer: basing this on reviews I've read) only is not that it is a simple game for kids and families. There's simple proof available: this fall we've gotten 2 games that have the exact same audience, and they've been getting good reviews. I'm talking about Lego Marvel and Skylanders SWAP Force. Those two also happen to be very good games.

I just played it at a Target nearby me, and can see myself getting it. Seems like a 7/10 game, nothing too amazing or extravagant but fun overall. I do think that it's an awful launch title when the only other retail exclusive is Killzone.

But still the truth. People like differend things, it is utterly shocking. That is why I care more about informative reviews than any reviewers opinion or number. Only thing more worthless than game review is movie or music review.

Keep telling that to yourself. Good child friendy products are getting good reviews, believe the truth or not.

As much as I'm sure Cerny's intentions were good, he may have done the "old school" style character action game more damage than good here. Based on reviews, this may lead pubs to the conclusion that the formula's not viable when there just doesn't seem to have been a huge amount of "effort" put in here.

Even stranger that it's being used to demo the PS4 all over the place.

Thing is, every live stream I watched so far, people have been saying that they love the game.

I'm with some of y'all, IDGAF what these reviews say. It looks like an enjoyable game to me. It's something different. I picked it up in the Amazon B2G1 free deal.

Definitely getting this, can't stop watching the stream.

Co-op will be a nice bonus too, some reviewers clearly messed up, don't see how someone can give it less than 5-6/10.

-they are playing on hard on the stream. Not sure why reviewers would play this on easy anyway, other than to rush through it.

Let's give it a few weeks. PS4 owners don't exactly have a lot of exclusives to play right now. Console launch is one of the few times I personally trust reviewers more than gamers

And Rayman:Legends, and Mario 3D World is coming out soon, which just might review a little bit better than Knack.

Simple design doesn't get you a bad review score. Bad design does.

watching yosp's stream made me want it. beautiful levels with soothing music and despite the simple inputs there seem to be challenging encounters where the fun comes from a tackling different combinations of a.i with varied attack patterns and the difficulty forcing you to always pay attention and think how to best get through each combat area.

Sales would probably affect publishers decisions more than review scores.

And yeah, this looks like a solid 6ish title to me. Anything from 5-7 seems fair, and i mean that on an actual scale to 10, not an IGN scale.

Spent the last few hours playing Knack coop on hard with my brother. It's not going to win any awards, but it was an incredibly fun experience, I'm really enjoying the game.

The combat system reminds me of a more simple version of the original Ninja Gaiden, mainly due to the focus on dodging.

Just because it's supposed to be a family game and not a shooter doesn't mean people shouldn't be critical about it if it's crap.

It seems like the kind of thing I'd love to play with my wife, I'm just disappointed to hear that it never really evolves from the formula it initially presents. I mean jak and daxter was a much more sophisticated game than this, so I'm not sure how far back it's nostalgia is trying to go.

I'll still give it a go, but it's def not a day one purchase when i grab my ps4

Sales would probably affect publishers decisions more than review scores.

True but metacritic, for better or worse, is a major driver of sales and pubs know that. Knack will probably have a bit of a free pass here owing to being a launch game too, so it'll be hard to judge.

I think the combat looks serviceable. The problem is that it's that same lackluster combat for 10 hours straight with no interesting level design, or puzzles.

Also watching someone trying to jump up on ledges makes me cringe. The jump just looks awful.

What are you posting that for? Different kinds of games, and nobody would pretend this is going to be like Mario.

This shouldn't transform into a Knack vs. Mario thread.

As much as I think Knack stinks and the people who ignore the reviews just to justify their future sucks, your post is one idiotic embarrassment.

I mean; So fucking what?

Ya but you'd have to buy a Wii U to play it, and no one wants to do that.

Oh come on. That shit is just uncalled for. I'm as hyped for Mario as you are, but this has nothing to do with Knack's review scores.

Pretty game but was that gif supposed to show some kind of deep gameplay? Nothing in that looks more than basic Mario platforming stuff.

Not even trying hide your trolling, wow
Lol, sorry guys. I admit that I was being a bit of an internet rascal on purpose. I knew that posting that image would produce a reaction but I didn't think it would result in responses like these.
