Ubisoft: "On PC, you don't usually care about performance"; just buy a bigger GPU

I gotta know Coldfoot, what is the reasoning behind your crusade against the PC platform?

I see you in one thread or another arguing about how horrible it is, but I have to ask, why?

No seriously, the thread title is basically tailor-made for that image. What the actual fuck man.

Sick of "PC is better! PC is better" narrative which completely downplays the inconveniences of PC.

Guess what I played Mass Effect on both consoles and PC (with superior graphics and framerate) and the console gameplay shits on PC gameplay simply because of the user interface. Same deal with Skyrim, I found the broken PS3 version of Skyrim much more enjoyable than the 1080p PC version, because I did not have to suffer through a keyboard/mouse to play it. "Press E to open door" prompt has no place in modern gaming.

Pretty sure you can play Skyrim with a 360 controller on PC dude.

I agree with your ME3 sentiment, Bioware are pathetic developers who flat out lie about their intentions on the PC.

To your Skyrim argument, bahahahahahaha. Plug in a freaking controller. WTF.

I was able to play and beat Skyrim just fine on my PC with a 360 controller. I agree a bit with Mass Effect but Keyboard/Mouse wasn't so bad

Like plugging in a controller. Using a keyboard and mouse. Using a joystick. Using a racing wheel.

Yea man, those inconveniences to use whatever input device the situation might require...

just going to put it out there, not a pc fanboy or anything, just a causual pc player...

xbox or xbox emulated controllers change the entire interface of 99% of controller supported games to their console counter part interface. All the games you listed did anyway (not sure about ME1 had enough of that on 360)

How do you enter your character's name on PC when you start the game?
Also, where is your response to post 150?

When I plug my PC into my TV and play 1080p games with awesome 5.1 on my comfy couch I have none of these problems...

How big does a GPU have to be in order to get past 40fps in Boston?

I swear I get the exact same performance at 1440p or 1080p.

As opposed to press 'X' to open a door.

Why can't doors open automatically, it's 2013 dammit!!

This is absolutely ridiculous.

You prefer a broken console port over a much better running PC version (which also allows you to mod and install fan patches) just because you don't know you can plug in a controller in your PC and play the game this way without M+K?

I don't have a response, I was just ruffling your feathers. Even though you can't argue that a no-console future would be better for all those involved and save gamers an immense amount of money due to not having the term "exclusive" which jacks the cost of everything up.

For Skyrim, I forgot how I entered my characters name, but I did play the game with a 360 controller and it played like a dream.

They only meant that optimisation is not a must on PC. And sadly, that's exactly what's happening in general in PC gaming.

Only games that really optimised are made on close platforms (like a console for instance).

Bioware famously left out controller integration from the PC ports though the files to do so are there.

There are 3rd party solutions to this issue, so its a moot point. Still unfortunate that they don't work natively.

Just like anything under 1080p/60 is unacceptable for PC gamers, any function of a system that can't be done with a controller is unacceptable to me. I never want to resort to KB/mouse while trying to power on a PC, launch a game, enter my name, play a game, or even if it crashes. NEVER. That's why I like consoles.

Ah, another one of those console crusaders that jump into every PC thread they find trying to 'set things straight'. You're a dime a dozen nowadays, getting sick of this trend as well.

ubisoft and bethesda are pathetic companies. Games cost 60 dollars I think we can expect a minimum standard of quality. Really get sick of developers like this.

Might he/she simply have meant that PC gamers aren't as locked down on their platform? You can't upgrade a console's GPU, you are stuck with it.

Although you're completely right in the vast majority of cases, the guy you were responding to mentioned Mass Effect, which does not support controller well at all on PC. Unlike all of its contemporaries, you can't just plug in an Xbox 360 controller and get that interface. If you want to use a controller you'll end up having to select the tiny boxes for spells/orders/weapon changes and though the left analog stick is the mouse cursor. I gave up on it and had to use Kb/mouse at my desk rather than playing it on my TV.

So the game becoming completely unplayable due to memory leak induced frame rate loss after 20 hours is worth it because at least you didn't have to use the keyboard one time to enter your name at the beginning of the game.

Amazing.

WTF! They want me to throw cash at their unoptimized PC code to make it run okay knowing they're reluctantly making some effort to optimize on console 'cause they have to?

Their DRM/Uplay killed them for me on PC and here just when I thought they were easing off the DRM they basically tell me their PC titles are unoptimized crap fests from a code point of view and it's down to me to use my cash to fix it : guess I'll still be ducking them on PC then.

this is hilarious. By this logic alone entire genres of games are beyond your spectrum of gaming, RTS games for example, a genre crippled by anything but mouse and keyboard controls.

That is correct. I similarly don't play fighting games either, but that's not due to controls. Don't miss either genre.

On consoles you have to get up and reboot manually because everything hangs. Which takes more effort and much more time. When F3 crashed I double clicked an icon and thanks to no load times I was back in the game in a few seconds.

Optimize != add extra eye candy. They are two different things.

Your assertion: Ubisoft wants gamers to upgrade for $500 cards and that's why they don't optimize.
My assertion: Ubisoft don't care about PC ports, including those buying $500 cards, otherwise they would have actually catered to those with $500 GPU's with unique features/effects other than just being able to run their game.

You seriously didn't read the OP? It lays it out pretty clearly, the OP even bolded it. They disagree with you, they don't worry about performance and rather have eye candy since people just upgrade to get better performance.
