Yikes, tried a blu-ray movie just for shits and giggles, thing sounded like it was going to detonate. Ugh.

Shoot, I don't even have cable. I guess they'll be Killer Instinct boxes until they're replaced. Still, it's just disappointing because there's nothing I can do about it until there's stock. Since I bought from Gamestop, I have to wait until they get more units, and god knows when that'll be.

You're probably best to use MS warranty for them, they'll have them back probably within 2 weeks max. Maybe less than a week if they expedite the process to keep good standing with customers.

Hardware failures on vita?

Yep. You shouldn't be surprised, there's hardware failures on everything. But yes, dig up the posts from when the vita came out. Some people got bum screens, units wouldn't turn on, etc.

Nothing launches with no hardware failure. And neither did they in the 'good ol days.' I remember friends getting bricked 2600s.

I stared at this way too long trying to spot the loop. I is tired.

As Ami said, things break, especially when you ship a bunch of a new thing. How many of those things actually broke won't be clear for a while. No reason to think it's wide spread yet.

That sound was nasty, though.
Yep,always going to be faulty systems.

Punishment for not accepting an all digital future.

In all seriousness though issues are to be expected. You are rolling the dice when you buy a launch console.

I'll see what Gamestop says tomorrow. If there's some preorders not fulfilled within 24 hours I believe they may be able to exchange. Not that it guarantees anything - for all I know, their entire Bone shipment may have been like this. Will find out tomorrow.

Tried 4 different games, same scenario. Discs are just fine, too - no scratches or anything before or after. Horrific.

At least it's not damaging the discs and ejecting them properly, as far as bright sides go. The annoyance of having it chew a disc up and refuse to spit it out would be a lot greater, especially when it comes to repairs. Not the greatest silver lining, admittedly, but it could be worse!

Hopefully it's a statistically small batch of units. As with the PS4's, they've been manufacturing these things for months, so a given manufacturing or assembly defect could affect only a very small percentage of the total stock. Not much solace to those with bad drives, but it at would at least mean they wouldn't be swamped (and thus slow responding) with repair requests.

Basically you go in saying you want at least one replacement today otherwise youll return both broken units for a refund. Theyll find one somewhere nearby.

It appears as though you're taking this worse than the people experiencing the issue.

Try and breathe, all console launches have some bad units.

Lol, why on earth would I be taking it hard?

Why is this some sort of competition of who's console is shittier or which issue is worse? The end result is that neither work for the end user and will need to be shipped away unless you are lucky enough to live close to a MS service center. How many people is that going to be an easy fix for?

Its not, im simply pointing out its not something to get worried about if you are someone in this thread picking up a Xbone in the morning. On the other hand, in the US at least, my advice would be to wait on the PS4 at least until The end of the year.

When 2 consoles purchased by one person both have the issue its probably much more widespread. Also how is it any less repairable than the blod? Both are going to require internal components be replaced.

The fix is as simple as moving a gear. Nothing needs to be replaced. The biggest issue is not playing your console on day one and having it opened up.

But anyway guys clearly my input is not wanted or needed. I have no horse in this race, but i just thought it was worth saying for the benefit of others that this isnt worth worrying about. No biggy.

Kind of sucks but I am pretty sure I said the same thing about the broken PS4s, sometimes electronics just do not work out of the box. Hopefully it is a small number and I am sure Microsoft will take care of it.

FWIW when my 360 red ringed I got a replacement in like a week. I thought I was going be waiting a month, so maybe you'll be lucky. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

If I can do this I will. Any guides or walkthroughs conceptually of what needs to be done? I don't want to void my warranties but...there's no way I'm worse than that dude on Twitch who tried to fix his PS4.

Which in case they will replace the entire drive. Do you honestly think they will just "move a gear" on a faulty drive and return it?

Sarcasm aside, serious question... Wouldn't hard disk space be very horrible if MS went down that route?
Both the PS4 and the Xbone install the entire disk for the most part to the HDD anyway.

This thread started off rational but we're headed off the rails. :/

I agree, I'm a PlayStation nut but this is normal for all new hardware.

The thread doesn't have to get shit up when it should be about anyone with problems reporting it and their experience.

Send it back to MS/store.

Trying to fix it yourself might make it worse.

This is why warranties exist folks.

Can't get mine till Tuesday
never shopping at EB games again
but I swear to god if mine does this I'm just going to lose it, and it probably will happen to mine to even if it's something like 0.000001%.

Yeah you'll instantly void your warranty. Not worth it in my opinion

Call MS support in the morning or go to gamestop and see if they have stock on hand

I had the same noise earlier today...simply took the disc out and tapped the xbox up and down lightly...works fine now..drive must be slightly out of line

suspect it may of got some rough love in transit

cant believe how quite the actual box is...even after 4 hours of bf you cant hear the fan

Not if the plastic gear is stripped, which it certainly sounds like in those videos.

You'd have to open the case and then open the optical drive, so you would definitely void the warranty.

Yeah any blu ray movie should work

But honestly any disc should work at testing if you have a faulty one or not

ah ok.

well i put the avengers blu ray in and it went to a menu asking me to install but no krunch krunch crashing chewing, so i think im good for now?

phew, had me sweat'n

Maybe this is why they don't support having the Xbox One in vertical mode. I remember the 360 did the same thing if you moved it with disc in

I don't think it's chewing the disc. One of the videos has the disc ejected pretty easily, and it didn't appear to be damaged.

However, I do have to wonder if this is the great shitstorm that CBOAT foretold, or just another Blue Light Of Death overblown minor issue.
What was it again that he foretold?

I haven't tried the old "bang on it" method but it won't hurt.

EDIT: No luck.

My advice would be to take it or ship it to microsoft. No point of voiding your warranty if you dont need to But there are plenty repair videos for the 360 that cover the same thing.

best solution at the moment would actually be to tilt the console so the laser cradle is going down hill or vigorously move the console as to get the laser cradle to move inwards. Either way, the problem is the teeth skipping due to poor mesh.

The root problem might very will just be a shipping/handling issue.

Honestly I think people are taking that quote from CBOAT out of context. He did say a storm was comin' in his own speak, but I'm pretty sure it was just referring more to the ESRAM stuff and also the roughness/lack of game-centric focus. It's possible he could have been hinting at something like this but I don't think they could have honestly known about having these faulty drives beforehand.

Couldn't get that to work, no matter which tilt I did. Bleh :/

That sucks. I'd just say use your warranty and call MS support or something. I know it's super fun to a part of the launch zeitgeist but there's nothing now day one that you can't wait a week or two to have fun with. I don't think you should open up your console or anything. If anything, knowing MS, they'll probably hit you up with a few free months of Live or some MS points.

Can someone with awesome gif making skills snap a few frames of when one of those cute kids grabs the Xbox One box?

Stuff like this is why I have never bought a console on release and why I never will.

Manufacturing defects can happen at any point in a console's lifespan. People are just less likely to raise a fuss about them further into the console's life because first of all they're easier to replace quickly and easily (just take it back to the retailer and get a new one), and second there are fewer being bought at any given time.

There's really no evidence yet that this is beyond the standard statistical deviation for manufacturing defects. It could be as simple as they had a new intern shoving in the disc drives for one day of production and he did a crap job; Vince might have gotten multiple bum consoles because he ordered them from the same place at the same time, getting multiple units very close to one another numerically in the production run.

Yeah. I'll see what's up with Gamestop tomorrow, if it doesn't look promising I'll contact MS. They've been good to me in the past, and part of the reason why I had no qualms about going with them on day one is because I knew if it was defective or had a problem, I have faith they'll make it right after the RROD fiasco.
