The Steam page will be early access.
Tiy actually showed it off. So I'm assuming you'll be able to pay on Steam for it directly. I'd further assume that the price will remain the same, but I don't think they've said that for sure, if that matters to you.
I dunno, I've always had the belief that the price will shoot up a bit once the beta actually starts, those of us who actually bought a pre-order ahead of time were given the advantage of a lower price. Again, I'm only guessing, but hey, its a possible slight reward for those of us who had the foresight to actually put money down on the game beforehand.
I'll definitely will be hosting a server once beta is out, I can't recall if Tiy mentioned if modding would be officially supported.
Modding supposedly will only be included AFTER beta, so, probably not till next year.
Wow that looks great. Were can I get this game? It's not on Steam...
Until the Steam page goes up, you can only get it here:

Like Retro, I do have some some questions concerning the game, and I've told him millions of times its mainly about the multiplayer.
Specifically, it concerns players and multiple planets. Considering how Terraria's online multiplayer is a hot mess, I'm keeping my expectations low when it comes to Starbound's online capabilities.
The way I see it, it'll pretty much boil down to these scenarios:
a) BEST CASE SCENARIO: players can go to and fro from any planet, regardless of whether or not other players are on said planets. In other words, truly open world.
I have concerns about this happening, because I think memory/resource issue would constrain this (Hell, in Terraria, on the GAF server, we were maybe able to get 12 people on average on the server, and it still be stable. Anything more than 15, and things just go fucking wrong).
I really hope I'm wrong, and that this scenario is what we actually get, but since I'm trying to be more realistic with expectation, I suspect the next scenario is more likely....
b) PROBABLE SCENARIO: we've got a Borderlands online situation, where the host is pretty much in control of what planets the entire server goes to. In other words, if he goes off planet to another one, so does everyone else on the server.
This is what I can live with, but the problem will be if we end up with the next scenario...
c) WORST CASE SCENARIO: we've got a Terraria situation. In other words, only one damn planet is designated as multiplayer, and every other planet in the game is single player.
In other words, while you're online, you can still go off planet, but you cant take other people with you, other planets are strictly single player. This will probably suck, and I really hope its not this.
However, there's a variation of this particular scenario which kind of makes it better:
d) MIDDLE OF THE ROAD SOLUTION: its like the previous scenario, where there are only single player planets, but when it comes to online, every single person's computer represents a multiplayer planet.
This actually can be pretty brilliant, it does restrict other players from helping in the regular campaign, but its a great way to sort to create a "galactic community"
Think about it, you want to take a break from single player, so you hop online, and notice Retro's opened up his planet to multiplayer, so you head on over to enjoy his OCD buidling tendencies.
Or if you have a death wish, you can head over to my planet, and it'll be filled with death traps ever 10 steps.
I feel those are the four possible scenarios to expect when it comes to online. If anything, I would prefer scenario A, but if we get scenario D, that would be pretty awesome too.
