Same person worked on both pieces of tech. What is?
Thank you. We appreciate your appreciation.I still think the gold standard for loading is the God of War games. Amazing work.
No one should be okay with these crappy installs.
Why? Do it once and never again. Been playing games for years. I remember the days of some pc games taking even longer.
Honestly this issue is WAY overblown. Yes it could be a lot faster like ps4 but it's one time. It's the same reason I never complained about ps3 installs. Who cares? I certainly don't.
When installs take up 30+ GB on a 500gb hard drive that isn't replaceable taking that long to install is not acceptable. You are going to have to keep deleting and reinstalling games.
wow I had to stop watching after 20 min.Adventures in trying to install Ryse http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Rwoqfhw_6Y

good to see the gaming press not report on this type of stuff.... wow...
Next gen = better improved features. PS3 install/load times were very very bad.
PS4 installs large amounts of data incredibly fast. Its actually pretty impressive. Clearly they put more work into it after being ridiculed for the forced ps3 installs last gen. Xbone looks pathetic in comparison.

So, does anyone have any idea why it takes so long? Other than being forced to wait for the title updates, which doesn't affect offline loading.
Why is it so long?

Sort of irrelevant. This is hardware designed in 2013, it should be held to higher standards.Did they report on the terrible PS3 download and install, forced installs, patching, etc?

Umm yes, like the entire generation.
First of all they are installing off a disc so I don't see how Internet speeds are even relevant unless you're talking about patches (which hopefully don't have to be installed for the game to boot because that would be a disaster). Secondly they have an insane connection speed so even if Internet was relevant it shouldn't be a factor. That Ryse video would obviously vary from person to person. Depends on your local network capability and what your ISP offers. Sounds like those "games are awesome" guys are all canadian and well, if you are even a little bit outside of an urban area the internet sucks hardcore. Even in urban areas speeds can vary considerably.
My personal internet speed is 50 megabits/second and I've had steam downloads hit that , going 5-6 megabytes a second so something like a 1 GB patch right from the get go would still take at least 3 minutes plus patching/installation time. A basic high speed internet package runs about 10-20% as fast so it would indeed take 5-10 times as long to download or 15-30 minutes. That video was also recorded on launch day when xbox' servers were likely a bit clogged and running slower then usual so even a fast connection to their server might not mean you get a good download speed.
All that said, 30 minutes is a fairly absurd amount of time to wait for a single player campaign to load up, if there's one part of a game that shouldn't require such a lengthy wait time it ought to be the single player portion.

Go read reviews, and news about MGS4 the media pitched a huge fit over that games mandatory instal... If I remember that was the first one that was really blown up. Really the media used the PS3 as a punching bag all generation. Some of it deserved... but carried too far most of the time. Just like the XBO will be treated this generation.
I was playing Killzone SF (blu-ray) multiplayer yesterday, while the LEGO Marvel demo downloaded and installed in the background. I even got a notification when it finished, while playing Killzone. There was no interruption in my gameplay. It was all silent and unobtrusive.
I just searched google and found numerous hits for this news. Point is it seems to be garnering adequate attention. I don't think the conspiracy the person I originally quoted exists.
We are talking about gaming press reporting it, not about people mentioning it on message boards.
They actually had special articles just on ps3 installation

This is evidence of bias?
Yeah that and doors needing to be mashed open. It's still a far better experience. The GoW games mask loading by making you run Kratos through random long hallways for no apparent reason.
The hallways are there so the game can load the next area while you run through them.
It was an issue to have articles dedicated to it. You can also manually look at face offs were installation was talked about. Yet none were mention in any face off for ps4/xb1 by DF that I recall.
Edit: not that I care. But posting since you asked
The 360 always did it better. While you have a point you ignored the one I just gave.
Yes the 360 did it better. The PS3 sucked at it. Everyone knew it.
What's the point in bringing up the media backlash for last gen? Almost every game comparison mentioned the install size etc. of the PS3 version. There were countless articles every time new info about a games' install size came out.
The fact the XBOne has gone backwards deserves to be derided.

I never argued that the Xbox One doesn't deserve any shit it gets on this point. It obviously does as the quoted times are terrible.
The point is that I personally don't see that there is a conspiracy, not to mention that it is way too early in the game to draw comparisons between how the One is being treated now and how the PS3 got treated over its 7+ year lifetime.
Apologies then. I misinterpreted the intent of your original post.
It really isn't reported on enough, it's truly despicable for a next gen console to have these long ass install times.
PS3 was murdered for missing 2 lines of resolution or averaging 2fps less than 360 or even having to mandatory install some games. I swear if it was PS4 the one with this horrible installs, media would've burned it alive.
so basically for Xbone:
- voice chat is huge step backward.
- Cannot see if your friends are online whilst in game (without using the snap feature)
- Cannot see if your controller is running out of battery
- Cannot see how much harddrive space you have left
- Voice controls which need you to say the thing you want twice most of the time
- Lots of games with microtransactions
- Longer install times
- Worse graphics
- Less powerful machine
- Juddery UK TV picture
and to top it all off.....
- MORE expensive!!!!!
Cboat have hinted on those miserable OS functions, I'm really surprised by how media never mentioned those shortfalls.
and about Voice Chat, and install times I would say "Karma is a bitch!"
The PS4 is itself a sandwich so you don't have to spend time making one!Damn it. Now I have to switch consoles to get my sandwich.
