Disney’s Frozen [OT] – They Pulled Another Tangled!

Another note, I was pleasantly surprised at Kristin Bell's singing voice. I was convinced someone else did it, but nope. I didn't even know she could sing...

Neither did I. Definitely was a surprise.

Random bit of fridge logic...
Who ruled Arrendelle after the King and Queens death and before Elsa's coronation? Presumably those same people would be able to take care of thing's while Anna's out adventuring instead of having to rely on a random new guy.

I suppose Elsa herself could have been ruling at that point. She was already 18 at the time of her parents' deaths even if she couldn't be formally crowned until she turned 21.

Elsa gave the order: "Tell the guards to open up the gaaaaaaaaaates" lol. So sounds like she had some control, as this was before she was coronated.

I dunno. Given how shut down the castle was, didn't seem like it was doing a lot of entertaining of foreign dignitaries and the like. And Elsa looked like she barely talked to her sister, let alone maintained relationships with neighboring countries.

First time seeing this and I really enjoyed it. Definitely one of the better Disney songs in a while and the animation really takes it to another level.

Yeah - clearly the animation for when
the ice palace is being made
is great, but what really pushes the scene over the edge is the animation for Elsa.

The amount of tiny details and expressions they were able to achieve is a small miracle. You can tell extra care was poured into that particular scene.

Wait, why is that spoilers? That's like the first minutes of the movie!

I'd hardly call it 'the first minutes of the movie'. It's more like
30 minutes.

Hmm, I guess I thought the early moments of the film were fine to post.

Still, I wondering about Elsa's dress if they're made of ice or if she eventually gets something else.

In the video of let it go, why doesnt she leave footprints?

Is that plot, or is the animation just generally sucky?

Did not see the video and I don't immediately recall that happening in the movie. The animation was top notch though. Seriously one of my favorite ever.

I thought it was great.

And, of course, I was struck by how Frozen utilized so much stuff from Tangled right down to the themes and facial expressions.

Has anyone played "Olaf's Quest" the DS/3DS movie tie-in game?

I'm sure it's not great, but I can't find any reviews, video or trailers for it anywhere. lol.

I really enjoyed the plot. It was incredible.

The music really disapointed me though. Which is a pity.

I didn't like it at first either, but Let it Go is simply on another level, and "For the First Time in Forever" really grew on me. "Do you want to build a Snowman" is also growing for me too.

Just saw it.

Visually, it was pretty stunning. The environments and facial expressions in particular were very well done. The only issue I had with the visuals was that sometimes the faces were too animated, especially when singing. Their mouths would "swoop", as in have exaggerated transitions from position to position, if that makes sense. It looked especially strange on Elsa, for some reason. But other than this minor complaint, what a treat for the eyes.

Musically, wow. So many amazing songs. I'd rank the top three as:

1) For the First Time in Forever
2) Let It Go
3) Do You Wanna Build a Snowman?

The opening and closing tracks were also very thematic and really set the tone. The biggest issue with the songs is that there is no villain number, and there are no songs in the last thirty or so minutes of the movie. I don't think there's a dull number. Fixer Upper is criminally underrated in the movie itself. As a song, I don't think it's much, but the visuals that accompany it and where it is in the story makes it really quite good.

Characters are another bright spot. Anna is Kristen Bell animated. Olaf is funny without being annoying. Kristoff plays well off Anna. Hans plays the price perfectly. Sven is maybe a little more in the background than I like. The only "bad" character was Elsa. I felt like they made her too one-dimensional. For example,
she seems to never feel bad about leaving the kingdom and her sister. In "Let It Go", I was expecting her to sing the final line (the cold never bothered me anyway) solemnly, knowing that she "lost" her sister forever. Little things like that would at least lead the viewer to think she was conflicted about leaving home.

The plot twist wasn't as bad as some people would lead you to believe. They couldn't have hinted at it at all or it really wouldn't have been a twist.

Overall I really, really enjoyed it. I've been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify (go listen, it's free!) all week and don't see myself stopping.

Oh, and Idina Menzel has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.

Agreed. Every time I listen to For Good I get very emotional. Dat range.

This movie is making me want to go see Wicked again.

I liked it, but I guess I was expecting more? Nothing really instantly gave me goosebumps like Tangled did I guess :( Maybe on the rewatch (DVD) I'll appreciate it more.

Yeah, my second watch made me appreciate the other songs, For the First Time in Forever is up there with "Let it Go" for me now. Tangled was on TV today too, still love that lantern scene. :)

I was half considering it but since there wasnt a console version i could redbox for an evening and then send back and spend like a dollar or two I decided against it. Looks a lot like the wreck it ralph game which was pretty bland and had atrocious presentation

Ok so I went into this movie having seen basically nothing. No trailers, no reviews, nothing. All I had seen was a frilly, heart-shaped pillow at Fred Meyer with the two main characters exchanging glances printed on it.

I half-assumed this was going to be Disney's first gay couple and boy was I wrong

There was a moment in the first third of the film that afterwards I had to remind myself they were sisters. Had an uncanny valley type of feeling.

Has Disney released info on what their next fairytale/musical film will be?

The two most likely candidates will be Giants and Moana.

More info on Giants:

http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/08...of-disneys-unannounced-animated-movie-giants/

(Brendon Connelly has stated later on that the film will likely be a musical and will probably take until 2018 )

More info on Moana:

(Tentative release date for 2018).

So. When Elsa
goes off in the middle of nowhere and makes her ice castle.

What exactly was her plan there?
What did she do for the short time she was there? Just stood around in the cold feeling sorry for herself/impressed with her new abilities?

What was she going to eat? She didn't know that she could create life until Anna showed up with Olaf, so she obviously didn't have plans yet for a snowman army to go harvest food or anything.

It looked like the castle had one room and some balconies. Where was she going to sleep? Where did she poop?

Basically I wish that the characters visiting her both times had caught her in the middle of doing something constructive. Anna walks in, sees Elsa constructing an elaborate ice pantry and dining room, that sort of thing. Felt weird that she was literally just standing around in an empty building.

ELSA: I'M NEVER GOING BACK! THE PAST IS IN THE PAST! LET IT GO! LET IT GO!

(goes back the next day)

It's a fairytale.

What we really needed was a scene where there was a zoning issue with the ice palace, but it was cleared up after a zoning board meeting.

The characters are generally not stupid, except for this particular bit. I thought the movie was great, but this one thing really stood out to me as I was watching it. You don't think it would've been nice to see at least some evidence of something happening there?

Ice toilets?

We should probably debate this further.

Yes, by all means, focus on one example given, one rhetorical question, rather than the point behind what was said. Especially when the point is reiterated. That is most mature.

I agree, they should have walked in to the sound of a flushing toilet upstairs.

My 8 year old who has seen every princess movie and LIVED the princesses in her earlier days said "The best movie of all time".

Only a few great songs, and none that will be a standby like Part of your World, but what this movie has is a fantastic performance by Kristin Bell. The singing of the sister is far superior, but "Do you wanna build a snowman" sequence was really heartfelt and at the same time charming.
