Hyrule Warriors (Zelda Musou) (Zelda Dynasty Warriors) announced

Remember when Zelda was sacrosanct and they wouldn't even put out crappy merchandise for it, like they would with Mario? Now it's in this and a Sonic game.

I think this is pretty much the definition of devaluing the brand.

Nintendo is in a tough spot. They need content as quickly as possible. Sadly I don't think this is the answer.

They could make Zelda Skyrim or Zelda Dark Souls - they decide to make Zelda Samurai Warriors :(

Spin-off or not, this is not a good look for Nintendo.
First new Zelda game on the WiiU and it looks like that?
Fire Emblem might have been an appropriate franchise to do this with, but Zelda should be a gated IP, a gold standard.

Really upset about this as a Zelda fan.

First reaction: Wow, the gameplay looks tight! Thank god it's just a spinoff though, because in terms of story and presentation, it doesn't look too good.

Second reaction: Wait... Nintendo FINALLY chooses to give another developer a change to make a "different" Zelda game, and they choose Tecmo? And wow, the graphics sure aren't looking next gen....

Why would a current gen console have next gen grafix?

always hated musou games, always loved zelda...not interested, as of right now, especially because it looks like a Wii game graphically

Got to save that real Zelda U reveal for E3.

I'm cautiously optimistic on this. It looks like it could be tons of fun if it's actually done correctly, and I'm hopeful that it'll still have that Nintendo polish. Definitely a good way to appease that Zelda hype though.

Never been into the DW series but this looks like something I'd consider buying. I'm hoping it might have an option to use improved and more in depth motion+ mechanics from skyward sword since it's unlikely Zelda U will use them.

Not sure what to think about this..

Let me give you template.

If you are nintendo fan: SAVIOR HAS ARRIVED, HURRAH!
If you are musou fan: I'm interested,
If you are neither: WTF is this?

No shit, man. You should try other DW series too while you are at it. I mean, it looks pretty much the same thing except the word zelda.

No, because this isn't true. Unless you're being sarcastic do I really need to remind you of the crappy CD-i games and the crappy cartoon?

I imagine this is in hopes of getting Japan interested. These Musou games are big there, right? The Zelda boss types being in the game helps it look interesting. At least for me. I haven't played Dynasty Warriors since the PS2 though so I have no idea how far its come.

Ugh, so instead of staying true to the series roots, they are going to diversify it just the way they do with mario games (Not that they are bad or anything, but extending such practices into other series screams plain lazy to me), can't wait for Zelda Kart, Zelda a Life With Epona and so on....

I actually find this offensive. It's a desecration of the franchise 100x worse than cross bow training. Not really serious but kinda...

hey guys the game is still early obviously, and if you're expecting a good look from a current gen musou game that's too much expectations come one

That's exactly what's happening here.
People say panic nintendo is best nintendo? These are awful, short-term, panicky decisions to fill massive gaps in release schedules left by the abandonment of 3rd parties. Nintendo's one enduring asset is their IP. It would be better for them to let the WiiU ride out to irrelevance over the next two years than damage any of their core IP. GI.biz did a great article on why that is.

Really short-sighted, worrying stuff.

I was super down on the Musou series until I played Gundam Musou. I'm kind of interested in this, but I probably won't buy this unless they really knock it out of the park.

1. Probably a pre-alpha build.
2. Fire Emblem has nearly as stellar record as Zelda and neither is too precious for Nintendo to use to offer new experiences with their IP
3. Really upset? Is that hyperbole? Crying in your cornflakes upset or moderately annoyed?

Guys constantly shitting on the Mosou series, but put Zelda into it and ZOMG WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!!

Pretty much. People are too predictable. This doesn't even look as interesting as a Dynasty Warriors game but I guess that's because I prefer the three kingdoms period over a generic Zelda theme.

At least a Zelda game will finally have decent combat!

Nintendo wouldn't trust the Zelda franchise w/ a third party without good reason, I highly doubt this thing is going through without Nintendo atleast overseeing its development.

This is part of the trend from NCL to work with Japanese 3rd parties on crossover titles. It is what it is.

3rd parties: "People only buy Nintendo games on Nintendo systems!"
Nintendo: "Here, use our IP and if your game still doesn't sell you can suck. our. cacks."

I'm pumped though to be quite honest. Tentatively pumped of course, as I'd like to see more videos/reviews before I'd make a purchase.

The only think I don't like about this are the graphics (an issue with every Koei Musou game.) It looks like a pretty decent Wii game in HD.
