GameStop sure seems to be pushing the Xbone hard...

I don't any more. The Xbox will never get to the level where publishers stop putting titles on it, and even if the PS4 reaches PS2 levels of domination, I didn't actually think much of the PS2 and its library anyway. (That gen was all about the Xbox and GameCube for me.)

I have a PC and an Xbox for Microsoft exclusives like Killer Instinct and Halo. If Sony sells a billion units, it doesn't matter to me, because they still don't have games worth playing.

I understand opinions and all, but I mean common man. Even during the PS2/Dreamcast generation, as a Sega fanboy no less, I could at least find a few things I wanted to play on that weren't on my console of choice. You can't write off an entire library like that without at least experiencing some of its exclusive games. That's just asinine.

Could it just be that Xbox One isn't selling well? The way they're pushing it makes them look desperate as hell

This. It's getting quite annoying to see people still bashing the Xbox One even after they satisfied ungrateful consumers and took away the original online check that wouldn't have affected anyone. It's pretty damn pathetic.
Dude, I know you're being sarcastic, but people on GAF have pretty much said this word for word and it's pretty fcking scary.

Oh, it's selling well. It's just that MS knows they need to over-saturate the NA market to keep ahead of Sony in their "last line of defense". If they overstock, retailers are forced in this situation of pushing XB1 to "clear stock" which gives XB1 a secondary marketing edge (this is all speculation, of course).

December NPD will be very interesting, simply to see the strategy that both MS and Sony are currently using. We'll find out soon.

its in gamestops best interest for both next gen systems to sell well. With the bone struggling a little and stock not moving its understandabe they would give it a bit more attention.

It can still be saved just like the ps3. Its not in a wii u vita situation just jet.

PS3 was never 'saved' in the anglosphere. They went from total domination to a distant second.

The only reason that wasn't a catastrophe is because Sony still had the rest of the world sewn up. MS don't have anything to fall back on.

Guise, I want my favorite video game box to sell more than the other yucky video game box.

Correct.

The video game business is a cut throat business full of wankers willing to cut their customers short for a quick dollar.

No sign of that changing anytime soon.

Wow. You have missed so many great games. Buy a PS2 at least, they're dirt cheap.

That last bit is just idiocy. If nothing interested you in the PS2/3's several-thousand-strong games library, I don't know. Maybe this is not a hobby for you.

Wow. Did Sony beat your dog or something?

I had a PS2 and I've got a PS3. Sony has zero exclusives that appeal since they killed Wipeout. My preference has never been geared towards the direction Sony took console gaming. It's just a preference. I don't know why people get so worked up about it.

EDIT: Should also be noted that I really don't like Japanese game design and there wasn't a strong Western presence on PS2.

MS tried to actively fuck their customers. Sony didn't. Nothing SCEI has ever done come close to what Microsoft planned for the Xbox One. (Sony rootkits were a different part of the company altogether)

Digital games that i could get on sale from stores.... perfectly fine. My internet works well enough it would not inconvenience me. I preferred the old system and would have saved money by buying things from amazon rather than just the 20% off from the digital store.

Yeah, online checks every 24 hours don't affect anyone, except when your internet goes down or there's maintainence or an outrage or a hack or they shut down the servers for some arbitrary reason.

And forced Kinect? Brilliant, if there's one thing we need it's peripherals forced onto the system for money but no software to support it and constant spying, along with always online.

Microsoft DESERVE the hate because, at the end of it all, they've never apologised for this, just made statements how "we're not ready". It's still their end game and may they suffer for it.

Too many posts to answer personally, but thanks for the feedback on fanboyism. I think I see where everyone is coming from. Hope you all recognize the end game you are looking for.

Happy next gen.

Everyone wants a ps4 at the target that I work at. We don't have any in stock but when they come in they are sold out in a matter of a couple of hours. Meanwhile, Plently of Xbox ones just sitting there. We aren't pushing the Xbox One but we mention we do have them when we say we are out of ps4s.

It's the price that is killing Microsoft here. If it was $400 like the ps4,I know people would get it as an alternative. But that extra $100 is really preventing that.

I've never met anyone who hated the PS2 games library before until now.... Even the avid MS fans who would buy the next Xbox to play their favorite franchises would agree that they had or loved the PS2

:/

Of course the OG Xbox had great games like Brute Force, Kungfu Showdown and Fable to name a few, the GameCube had a stellar exclusive list as well but the PS2 had so much amazing games from how many genres that it would appeal to any gamer. Even third party exclusive franchises that only just went multiplat in the PS3 gen where born or matured in that life cycle.. So you sir have missed a lot of good games.

:(

Edit: There was a lot of western presence too

Yes there was. Not sure how you can ignore that nearly every single game from every single part of the world put on consoles during that generation was on PS2. The PS2 was not a Japanese market console. It was a global console. Like what you want to like, but don't back up your preferences with false statements.

My favorite games on the ps2 were mostly Japanese. However, it was clearly a global console. Xbox really just owned the FPS genre there, not much else.

This. Between Nintendo, Sony and Sega , half those games on the Xbox appeared on those systems before that even existed. And Xbox fan is an Xbox fan at heart. For someone to say they didn't like the PS2...it must mean trolling or didn't have one to begin with an obviously missed out on all the games that were masterpieces. The funniest irony is not liking the direction Sony is moving gaming but comparing that to Microsoft. Woow ! I never thought I would of ever heard that in my life.

Not to derail the thread, but hate isn't the word that should be used. It's just apathy. There was a lot on the PS2 but I could live without all of it. There's not a single exclusive game on the platform that would make it in to my top 20. A lot of the games people raved about -- Gran Turismo, God of War, Devil May Cry, Jak and Daxter, etc -- just didn't click with me. That's really about it.

Care to give some examples though? Yeah, there was Sony's first-party stuff at the end of the life cycle, but especially at the start it was dominated by Japanese stuff. When I think back on the PS2, it's not the port of Half-Life that's springing to mind.

This isn't really an argument, it's a fact. From 2000-2006, a far and away majority of all games were released on PS2. If you wanted to play console games at that time, the console that would give you access to the most games was the PS2. Not Japanese games. Not European games. Not American games. All games.

Yeah, the problem could be both the PS4 and X1 are very similar experiences, visuals and software for a $100 discrepancy. For most people, $100 is a lot of money, especially if you only want to play COD, Madden or Assassin's Creed. Lack of exclusives can really hurt, especially Microsoft because they have the more expensive console.

If I were a retail store and one company was providing me ample stock and the other was not, I'd sure as hell be pushing the one that I could replenish.

lol at all the people that think that good supply a week after silly season means nobody is buying.

just goes to show where the supply issues are and after all the nonsense of assuming ms wasn't able to produce. Its funny to see how it is actually the opposite

Fanboys why do you all really care?? Serious question for both sides. Not being an asshole, just trying to understand the feeling of wanting one system to sell while the other system doesn't? I am trying to relate it to sports and competition but that doesn't quite work. Is it just a "I spent my 400-500 dollars on the more popular system and you didn't." Bragging right thing? I was also thinking that maybe it's the possibility that if your system doesn't sell then software developers will stop making product for your system. That sort of makes sense.

I don't know, I usually stay away from this side of gaf(although it was originally why I joined many years ago). Just curious.

If you really are just curious and don't have an emotional attachment to one or the other, why on earth would you adress your post to "Fanboys"?

Kind of pathetic to be honest.

I think the Xbox is a solid console despite its mishap. I am buying one in the future but not right now. There's not need for me at least. The way GameStop is pushing it is tempting but annoying at the same time as it seem forced. Either way, they are getting paid to push it and some fanboys are taking advantage of it but it is what it is.

I've only seen "Xbox one in stock" 2 feet long papers/stickers on the door to several gamestops in the past week and leading up to Christmas

none of those tables and lol employees outside things.

Like stacking a Xbone pile outside the store and yelling at your customers through a megaphone

To clarify, Gamestop and others are getting desperate in trying to sell the console.

Except I seem to remember playing Morrowind, KOTOR, Jade Empire, Crimson Skies, Fable, Half-Life 2, Project Gotham Racing and Forza, Deus Ex 2, and others on Xbox. One of the reasons I liked the machine: it gave a PC like experience for someone who wasn't able to afford getting into PC gaming at the time. It also came at a time when I was getting sick of things like save points and random battles.

It's not to say the PS2 had nothing. It was, again, just games I could quite happily live without. It probably puts it into perspective when I say the PS2 game I liked the most was Tekken 4.

Again, no need to derail the thread. I was simply responding to a question. The PS4 could achieve PS2 dominance again and it wouldn't bother me at all unless you have companies like Ubisoft and EA starting to abandon the platform. And I don't see that happening unless it pulls a Wii U. Even if it does, it's hardly a problem: the missus will be getting a PS4 anyway and I have a decent (enough) gaming PC. Even if the Xbox One flops, it's hardly the end of the world and I'll live.

And? We're talking about preferences and those nine games happened to be A) games I actually played and B) games I actually enjoyed.

This isn't about list wars. I'm simply pointing out why I personally, in my own subjective opinion, preferred the Xbox to the PS2 even though the latter had far more exclusive games. Those exclusive games just generally tended not to appeal to me. I honestly don't know why people get their knickers in a twist about this. It's like it's blasphemy to say you don't like these games or something. It's like when I said I thought Heavenly Sword was superior to God of War and people lost the plot over that. :|

Well as time moves on Sony has focused more attention on their western studios and have made their exclusive more western centric as Japan started to fade in the overall presence inside the console industry.

Games like the Order and U4 to name a few are AAA games that would appeal towards a western audience rather then a Japanese one.

So who knows I hope you do find something interesting to your taste so that you could broaden your games scope.

:)

Currently for this gen it is the first time that I didn't purchase a Xbox in its first month of release... I likely may in the future (after my WiiU purchase hehehe) but currently I am on a wait and see process where I will access if these new titles would interest me or not since the 360 cycle faded my interest in MS exclusive output... Fable and Halo lost their charm for me last gen so I am cautious about their sequels ( or in Fables case a somewhat reboot) QB looks the most interesting but it is a new I.P so I'll wait and see and TitanFall looks fun but the play it online story makes me think that I won't get too invested in it (as I play a lot of SP games rather then MP) and it being a shooter isn't helping...

Oh and I don't have a clue what Subset Overdrive is so there is that... Just a big waiting game for me unless of course the produce wacky titles like Viva Piñata and Blinx again I will just hold off for now

-----
Any who... I think the XO will lower its stock manufacturing as demand slows down mid January and Sony will likely do the same mid March after the Japan Launch settles down...

MS will still be somewhat competitive in the US and Aus especially after March but in other areas they might suffer a loss of larger shares compared to last gen

You're trying a little too hard.

How? Heavenly Sword is legitimately one of my favourite games (and my favourite game on the PS3) and I don't like God of War. Half of the reason I like Heavenly Sword over God of War is because the former isn't trying to be overly gory and overly macho.

This is my honest to God opinion. I'm not sure how it can be seen as trying too hard simply because it doesn't flow with popular opinion.

You're right. This isn't a list war. Not sure why you are saying that though when you asked me for a list and you provided me a list. Clearly, I'm not the one interested in arguing lists. I really don't care what console you like. Again, all I did was point out your false statement. Liking those 9 games doesn't change the fact that the PS2 had more games from all regions of the world and it doesn't make the PS2 a console lacking American games. Pick just about any genre and there are a ton of games on the PS2.

Pick just about any genre and there are a ton of games on the PS2.

Right. And in an attempt to bring this back on topic, the question isn't how many games the machine has, but how many appeal and how many can only be found on that platform.

Look at Titanfall. It appeals to many, but you see them saying "I'll plat it on 360 or PC." So the PS4 could again have that situation where it's "pick a genre and see the quantity" but at the end of the day it will be about whether the individual feels there's any quality in there.

For most people, the PS4 will be fine. The PS2 was fine for lots of people. They didn't care if they didn't get to play Republic Commando or Jade Empire. Now, if they PS4 gets the next Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed exclusively, there will obviously be issues. And the question will be how will Microsoft combat that. When going up against the PS2, it managed to secure (IMO) one of the best console libraries this side of the Mega Drive. It was different people in charge, then.

When people ask me why I went with the Xbox One, I tell them it was just because I wanted the games. It's not some deep-rooted hatred of Sony. It's not some need to see Microsoft succeed. It's literally because there was Killer Instinct at launch and I really like Halo.

If Sony manages to make Shadow of the Beast more like Shadow of the Colossus and not like God of War, then there will be a change in the situation. But for now, no, power and price didn't matter to me because I wanted the exclusive software. And the if the PS4 outsells the Xbox One, it doesn't matter to me either. Even in the "worst case" scenario where the Xbox One tanks completely and pulls a Dreamcast, I'll do exactly what I did when the Dreamcast died: buy a PlayStation.

Haha, oh wow.

Yea, dishonest people are really not worth trying to converse with.

Again, read the rest of the thread and not the single post and you'll see why there's no dishonesty at all. People got their knickers in a twist because I said that PS+ didn't discourage me from going from PS3 to Xbox One at all. People were like "OMG YOU LIES!" ignoring the fact I hadn't owned a 360 for nearly a year and certainly not an Xbox Live account.

Again, it was a witch hunt because "OMG NO ONE CAN LIKE XBOX!"

Maybe you should go back and read your own post bro. It's not about you liking the xbox it's the complete ludicrous comment you made about how the PS2 library had no games and than insinuating PS4 library would be same.

Did you honestly believe you wouldn't get flamed?
