Xbox One: over 3 million sold to consumers in 2013

That's a lot of consoles sold. Would like to see some numbers for the games themselves, particularly Killer Instinct, Ryse and Dead Rising 3.

Pre-emoting not making a specific US announcement when NPD comes out? Or getting in first before Sony shares numbers at the CES keynote?

I imagine they are getting in first. I think Sony's worldwide numbers should be greater, and then guessing MS gets to announce possibly larger NPD numbers after Sony's worldwide numbers.

With sales like that, I don't think Microsoft will be very convinced to drop the price any time soon.

Since they only say the Xbox was fastest selling in November, are they implicitly conceding December to the PS4?

That's an interesting point.

It also strikes me like they're trying to get out in front of something with this press release. Maybe Sony's CES keynote?

Edit: Still, 3 million is nothing to sneeze at.

Damn. Pretty impressive.

People are hungry for next gen. Although I'm surprised 3 million people went with the more expensive less capable machine. At least it has Dead Rising 3 which seems awesome.
I'm pretty sure the majority of them have absolutely no idea about which is more or less powerful.

they won't have any hard data on Sony's sales yet. I doubt they're conceding anything.

I think it has more to do with the fact that they are trotting out the "fastest selling" thing again, which as the GAF thread rightly ridiculed is completely false except for the world of Microsoft Maths TM.

I kind of want to throw tomatoes at every poster who was soooo sure that Wii U sales were indicative of Xbox One and PS4 future sales.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
It'll probably get announced tonight.

that will all come down to what happens now that consoles are readily available and the holiday is out of the way. if sales fall off a cliff, they'll drop the price sooner rather than later though they'll no doubt wait to see what Titanfall does. PS4 will take a bit longer to shake out pent up demand, since they're still hard to find.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Still, I'm seriously amazed both PS4 and One are selling so fast, at their prices. The most...err, how can I say it...tech-aiming audience is literally flying towards both. This makes me fear how big the drops will be starting from this month, though. This pace is unprecedented, but I can't see it going on for too long.

Yep. The only data point from NPD that Microsoft has is how they performed in November.

And technically, the Xbox One sold more consoles per day, making it the "fastest selling," but the PS4 sold more consoles within the tracking period.

So they sold around the same amount the Wii U sold in compareable time after launch? Let's see how the rest of the year pans out.

Strong demand to continue to roughly mid-Spring and then drop into a lull until blockbuster October/November time.

Pretty incredible at $499. I wonder what that PS4 number is.

Xbone and PS4 will probably outsell Wii U worldwide LTD by the end of this fiscal year.

Great numbers Xbox. Congrats although no mention of Halo concerns me a bit I must say...I need a Halo fix in 2014. I am not sure I could handle a delay, unless Titanfall lives up to hype.

"2014 will be a promising year with many more great games on the way for Xbox One including “Titanfall,” “Watch_Dogs,” “Project Spark,” “Sunset Overdrive,” “Tom Clancy’s The Division,” “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,” “Destiny,” “Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare,” and “The Elder Scrolls Online,” among others. More games, more features, more content, more fun – all coming your way this year."

Xbox says it won't be updating sales numbers again until Jan 23 w/ earnings announcement. Not sure what that means for NPD numbers.

Great numbers well deserved.XBO is a great system. Hope they keep staying competitive in 2014.

Glad they listened to people and changed what they did.

Clearly a lie, 'cos consoles are dying and will be replaced with ftp mobile/tablet games.

Who wants to play The Last of Us or Forza when they can play Angry Birds 17 or some other garbage
