My dog was murdered by a 3.5mm audio port and I will not rest until the standard is dead
seems the same to me on Nexus 4, msm_hsic_host is still causing pretty hefty idle drain.

dunno if Nexus 7 has improved yet though.

Works on my N5 and N10. But the original battery drain for me was Location, which, apparently, the Service update fixed.

It's two things. Security software and also it locks the bootloader on all new Samsung phones. You can still root with it, but it trips a fuse on your phone so it will always show you flashed a custom rom. There is no way to get rid of the bootloader part once you have it. If you have a Samsung phone with 4.3 you probably already have it.

I have a note 3 which has 4.3 on it. Is there anyway to tell if you have it and any way to get rid of it if you do?

I've been denying all OTA updates on this device just in case. I don't see knox in my apps.

So does anyone else have this problem using GEL on a Nexus 7?

See that empty space next to Gmail? Anything I put there disappears after awhile without fail. If I leave the screen off for awhile, restart, whatever, when I come back, it's gone.
I've used AOSP AOKP and they all do it on 4.4.2.

Quite liking my time with the Moto X. The size is great, active display is awesome and the trusted bluetooth feature is sure convenient when I have it connected to my car.

I wish the assist stuff had more options. I don't have the same sleeping times on weekends as workdays so I turn off the automatic silence mode. I take the bus to work more than I drive so I turn off driving detection.

Anyways, my only beefs with it so far are the horrible cameras -- especially the front one, which is just pathetic. I still prefer the Nexus 5 screen a bit more even though the colors seem a little washed out.

I'm hitting 88 Mbps down and 30 Mbps up on this phone cause it supports 2600mhz LTE lol.

So my Note 2 arrived this morning, got it cheap off eBay. Have a Nexus 4 but wanted to try out a larger screen and have removable battery.

Just been setting it up and wow my N4 screen looks tiny already, its really weird. The N4 has a far better screen though in terms of colours. Seems fine though, kitkat is obviously way better then touchwiz but as you're in apps 90% of the time its not too bad.

Will give a few days if not will flip it and will probably make £10-20 on it actually...

Wow, all this time I thought it was either my toddler son messing with my N7 or Xbox Music app acting crazy, since that's what I have there.

Yes, you need to revert back to the last version of the Google Search App.

The update just before Christmas broke GEL on the N7.

March reveal date for the GS5 is being talked up right now. With their usual six week gap in between announcement and launch that makes S805 practically guaranteed for the international 4G version.

I finally rooted my G2 last night and installed the Xposed framework with the G2 module on top of it. There's some pretty slick stuff you can do, but I'm pretty much just using it for cosmetic purposes to try to make it look as close to stock as possible.

Is that the Sprint version? Sprint is the only carrier in the US using 2600mhz LTE but the Moto X isn't a tri band device. And you can't get those speeds on Sprint without a tri band device (if at all).

Has anyone gotten that google play services update pushed yet? I know Android police has the APK but I want to wait for the actual update.

Isn't play services usually updated silently in the background? Meaning you probably won't ever notice it having updated.

If you have a note 3 you have it.. Samsung started including it with all of their 4.3 software. I think you can see it from download mode. If you flashed a custom ROM it will say 0x1 or something like that and 0x0 if its never been tripped. Once tripped it voids your warranty.

Nah, Rogers in Canada. We currently have LTE on 2100mhz and 2600mhz.

So my time today with the Note 2 has left me with my ideal phone.

I have a Nexus 4 and thats a good size, maybe a tiny bit larger Nexus 5 size. With a removable battery and SD card slot.. I don't mind the 720 screen - using the Note 2 realised how pretty good the Nexus 4 one is actually. Colours and sharpness are all great. Something close to stock android, although with launchers doesn't matter too much..

Does such a device currently exist?

Never buy HTC phones, part , err, how many are we up to now?

http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/13/5304700/htc-says-the-one-x-one-x-wont-get-any-more-android-updates

"We can confirm that the HTC One X and One X+ will not receive further Android OS updates beyond Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. We realize this news will be met with disappointment by some, but our customers should feel confident that we have designed both devices to be optimized with our amazing camera and audio experiences."

What a bunch of arseholes.

So happy I got away from this truly shit company. While my ride with Sony has had a few bumps in the road, it's nothing like the contempt HTC have for their consumers.

If the tegra3 X+ won't get updates....I think the N7 '12 is done for too.

Yeah I'd never buy another phone from them. They've been shite with Android updates going right back to the Magic and Hero.

My Note 2's battery has gone to shit after AT&T updated it with Android 4.3. With moderate use during the day (one short phone call, some light web browsing, listening to 30-45 min of music) I could end the day with 60-70% charge left on my phone.
Now I'm lucky if I get above 30% by the end of the day.

I found a post online with suggestions to improve battery life so I went through and turned off all the Samsung apps (and Google+) as well as most app notifications. Also turned off the "Location services thing, but I hope I can still use Google Maps with that off.

If this stuff doesn't improve it enough I'll probably just go ahead and root my phone and try out Kit Kat. If THAT still doesn't work I'll probabky just roll it back to the original 4.1 (or whatever my Note 2 was originally using.

Should have used BetterBatteryStats before you went through and turned off all those things. You could also look at the battery page and see if your phone is awake when the screen isn't. That would give you an idea if there is an app keeping your phone from deep sleep.

True, I suppose I could have used something like that. I was mainly relying on the main android battery metrics thing in the settings menu, but i have my doubts for it's accuracy.

On the other hand all of the apps I turned off were ones that I don't care about at all (Samsung Shop, AT&T Location, etc.). Google+ is about the only thing I might want to turn back on in the future

Now I know why the Z1s is so cheap on T-Mobile!

Xperia "Sirius"/Z2(?) is due out in late June in the US, will go head to head with GS5 on T-Mobile, VZW and Sprint. Sony and AT&T are still bitching at each other for some reason.

Spec rundown, take it with much salt for now:

5.2" 1080p/1440p IPS
4GB RAM
S805 @ 2.5GHz
32GB
MicroSD
20MP camera
~3500mAh battery

Hoping to get confirmation on these soon, and that it will be the only flagship from them for 2014.

I got my first Android device today! A Samsung Galaxy Note 2 i605. The guy who gave it to me has it rooted and such already. It is sitting on 4.1.2, JellyBeanBuild 22. I'm having a hard time finding out what kind of ROM he has on it, but whatever it is I don't care much for and want to change. Any recommendations? I'm surfing XDA for opinions at the moment, but figured I'd check in with the home team first.

Duh. I guess it is JellyBeans 22...

Oooh, 4GB rather than the rumored 3GB - nice. So based on what you had revealed before, the new camera may be 1/2" rather than 1/2.3"? Personally I'm very hopeful they can put a xenon flash in it.

BTW, I recall a rumor from a while back saying Sony would be utilizing wireless charging tech in their mobiles this year. I wonder if either the Z2 or the next Ultra will have that built in.

Guess that means I'm waiting till this phone is revealed before I decide what I'm upgrading to from my S3.

Was thinking of just getting a Z1s and doing the JUMP program to upgrade to the Z2, but I'm just gonna wait.

The Z2 is rumored to be revealed next month, with a release in the early summer right (hopefully)?

i thought samsung was going to release a 64 bit exynos processor and expected to see it on S5. the 805 is still a 32bit one isn't it? Is this 64 bit thing really important because my nexus 5 really flies with the snapdragon 800.

does not seem a huge leap, unless they manage to make the phone smaller, like original Z or N5.
4gb of ram seems a bit of overkill to me (more ram is always good though)

Seems that next year is going to be a transition one for smartphones.
