Super Smash Bros Wii U & 3DS Thread 4: New Year, Old Arguments

Sure, she could show up, but she's not adding anything to Smash Bros. in any of the ways he's mentioned so far. We know very little of his selection criteria for this game either way (just that it's changed enough from Brawl to include characters he's turned down for previous entries).

Sure she can and the series is named after her. She has a staff, green hair, great personality viridi alt, Heck sakurai could let her use one of many weapons from uprising as a b move like pit...maybe the palutena blade and the centurion orbitars :D.

Isn't popularity the reason why Wolf got in? And if popularity has nothing to do with it, why would mentioning that Wii Fit Series sells well be needed at all?

Sakurai's said in interviews he wanted Wolf in since Melee, but chose Falco to distuigsh him better as a clone. Mentioning that Wii Fit is a multimillion dollar franchise is just a way of saying that it's ongoing and worthy of consideration for that, not so much popularity.

I'm partial to this one.

I kind of wish WFT hasn't been revealed and instead had been the final WTF unlockable character in the game so that so many salty tears would flow at release date

The perspective makes this look better than it would actually be. I think it would be lame to have the character always have to be hunched over as to not take up too much space also.

He's the same size there as Bowser, and he's even standing more upright in Smash 4.

Not a big deal.

The different perspective on ridley makes this look better than it would actually be. I think it would be lame to have the character always have to be hunched over as to not take up too much space also. If he's in, I hope they just make him Charizard size and be done with it.
The perspective is fine. Ridley's body is oriented the same way as Ganondorf's.

Bowser isn't hunched over anymore so now Ridley can take his place.

Didn't know Sakurai wanted Wolf since Melee. Either way the point is that we can't really tell what goes on Sakurai's head when he choses characters and dismissing Palutena entirely because she "isn't much of a character" just seems odd.

I'm partial to this one.

Sakurai has also been quoted as saying he thought of Smash while designing Kid Icarus Uprising which is why some people have speculated that Palutenia or Magnus could be playable in the next Smash

The context on where and when he said that would matter a lot. You can see a lot of inspiration from Smash Bros. in Uprising.

Zelda's not playable because she's the titular character though, she's playable because she had a really big role in one of the games and became a more involved character in the series since. Palutena's taken that first step but she's no more involved than Hades or Medusa, and she ends up being the damsel in distress for a portion of the game.

Dead serious, but you're not going to see any of them playable anyway~

Palutena wasn't much of a character before Uprising (just like everyone else from KI). She's not really much of a character after, either.
Don't be ridiculous

Sakurai put a lot of care into her character in uprising; he specifically designed her so that wouldn't just be the "mission control" lady. I'd argue that the conversations between Pit and Palutena make up the heart of the game.

Ridley being hunched over is true to character though.

He's been hunched over, squatting, or both in every 2D-based appearance.

Palutena is in nearly every mission in Kid Icarus Uprising, she has the second most dialogue after Pit, she's a legacy character, she featured prominently into the promos (anime, parade float, interior box art, etc), she is the title character in Japan, etc. She has the best chance of all the potential KI newcomers. And I wouldn't be surprised if Pit losing the Mirror Shield is not only a way to showcase an Uprising weapon, but so Palutena can use her Mirror Shield.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own

Sure she was involved helping pit get to his destinations, giving him tips, taking out a certain boss if pit took too long, all the teasing and interactions with the other characters :p. That damsel in distress bit never really happened aside from one chapter after she....had a rocky change of heart lol.

I'm replaying Metal Gear Rising on PC right now, and I'd frankly want Raiden as a playable character. But I think PSABR might have done that, and also MGRR didn't come out on WiiU.

MGS2 Pretty boy Raiden, not the new cybernetic mess.

No more involved than Medusa...? Did you even play Uprising? Medusa is only present in a grand total of 4 chapters. Her role in KI:U game was greatly diminished. Palutena was definitely one step above Hades in terms of story involvement, as she's in over 80% of the chapters (versus his 13~) and is the leading force behind virtually all of Pit's actions.

She's not really damsel either
The Chaos Kin had influenced her to do bad stuff, but she's never really taken out of the picture until chapter 19. So she's "kidnapped" for a total of 1 chapter.

Your justification for Zelda being playable is also off base (when has she ever had a large role beyond being a damsel? A badass damsel in TP??)

It would be so funny, if raiden was a playable character in this one. And mentioned a rather terrible tournament he had to get though to even get here.

Also the road to E3- Mania 19 has officially begun smash gaffers!

What do you think nintendo will show off at all the PPV's before grandest show of them all ?

Oh man, I couldn't disagree more strongly. MGRR Raiden is one of my favorite playable characters in a videogame. So much style, so much fun. Here's hoping the cyborg stays.

No I like the new Raiden too, don't get me wrong.

I'm just wondering who'd fit from Snake's universe. Maybe the Beauty and the Beast Unit.

Zelda as an actual character involved in gameplay was one of the few high points of spirit tracks. Of course, that is irrelevant as hell to melee and Brawl.

Fretting over characters is pointless. The obvious big games have their main heroes in. Whatever else gets in is subject to the dev team's whims. It's fun to speculate on who is possible or what their moves would be like, but it's not like there's anything close to a universal set of rules to base an argument on. Isn't this why "Ridley is too big" is a meme? To poke fun at how smash fans love becoming married to utterly meaningless convictions about roster possibilities?

You mean you want the version of raiden NOBODY LIKES.

So much so they recreated him as a cyborg ninja and then everyone liked him. And he got a video game? You mean the one that came before that?

The West only dislikes him because of his androgynous appearance.

He's a pretty deep character if you followed the entirety of the series.

That aside, I like the new Raiden as well, I was just asking in general if he'd replace Grey Fox as an AT. Either Raiden or the Beauty and the Beast Units.
