NFL 2K to make a comeback next year? HipHopGamer firmly believes so

Does this soft bodied Brian Pumper actually have any insider info? It sounds like he is speculating WILDLY off of a random quote from an NFL exec that isn't even necessarily game related.

Would enjoy Madden more too if I felt it didn't have the luxury of complacency.

But must have the 2K series back to get back to pro football games.

Pretty much just click bait.

However, since NFL and EA hasn't signed a new deal yet is definitely giving me some hope for NFL 2k. It is most likely false hope, but meh.

It's pure speculation. I've pointed this out before, but Reddit did an AMA with assistant executive director of external affairs of the NFLPA last year and they had questions about Madden. This is what he said

Q
George, I wanted to ask you about the madden exclusive license. Do you plan to end this soon? The the 9-yr exclusive license ends this year and the fans are sick and tired of not having a choice of picking a nfl game to play. Madden is becoming stale and the community wants 2k sports to have a chance to make video games again. Nfl 2k5 was the best representation of the nfl to this date.... Please make this happen Mr. Atallah. Thanks for your time

A
We have an agreement with EA and Madden. I have heard some opinions like yours, but honestly, EA is one of our best partners. I know they hear some of your input as well and work to improve the game every year.

Q
Sorry Mr. Atallah, but I will not purchase another ea nfl licensed game until the consumers are ale to have a choice again. The consumers should be in your best interest sir.

A
I'm sorry to hear that. One thing to clarify though, my job and the job of the NFLPA, is to ensure that the players' interests are top priority. I know that might not be the most popular answer, but it's our mission.

So, there's really no way that the license is leaving EA.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
I cared about this a lot more before I played NBA 2k14. It was a pretty turd that exploited it's owners at every turn into buying money. If and that's a big if 2k makes a football game I'm sure it will be much the same. They'll have to prove me wrong. I'm not excited by the possibility much anymore.

Has this guy had insider information before? Is he credible? I really want to believe this, but it seems like he might be reading too much into certain comments. I really want 2K to bring there magic to the NFL and NHL.

Oh man this really needs to be true. There has to be a new football game on the market, Madden has become worthless shovelware.

I don't think Gerald Williams (aka. "HipHopGamer") is much of an insider. He likes to make predictions and stir things up, though! :)

Just like they brought the magic to the NBA and MLB? Both franchises are/were shit. NBA 2k14 has a pretty shell, but once you crack into the game, all sorts of ugly seeps out.

"NFL 2K is a moneymaker"

"Could see a 2105 release"

This guy knows... nothing.

"I've been a journalist for like five years and I can honestly tell you, when a company don't tell you no or there's a lot of what ifs there's a lot of truth to this NFL 2K game coming back."

I... huh?

Impeccable logic.

2K started selling their games for $20 don't forget!

I don't know if that's why EA got the exclusive license or if they were working on it anyway, but dang, how could they compete with a better game at 1/3 the price?

I'd like to be excited by this, however, 2K might be premedical starting production in case they get the license.

Also, the microtransactions in NBA 2k14 aren't my favorite thing ever.

Curious development tho, if true.

If NBA 2k14 is any indication then no thanks. Competition is always good so I would support 2k coming back to compete with madden but not as an exclusive football game.

I can forgive slow gameplay progress but I can't forgive online features/performance that would have been outdated 8 years ago, let alone today.

2k is an absolute joke if you have any interest in online gaming

Most of those comments are 10 months old or older.

Sure, but do you think anything has changed? The key there is that the NFLPA is happy with their relationship. So, it's EA's license as long as they want it. The NFL in general seems to like exclusive partnerships. Whether it be Direct TV, Microsoft, or EA.

Business is the reason why everything is fuck up.

Really hope this happens! Madden was a terrible joke this year, and the fact it still sold so well shows there is a market for another football game. 2k don't let us down!

GO PATS!

I am still keeping the faith strong!

Yep. This Sunday is when the deal officially expires (apparently, that is what has been said so I'm probably wrong.)

If they show a new Madden commercial during the Super Bowl, then... yeah... exclusivity remains.

I figure all the have to do is walk into an NFL board room pop in a copy of NBA2K14 next gen and a sales graph next to it

I question if a new NFL 2k would even be any good. You're going to have the stragglers from the dissolved MLB 2k team making the game, and they haven't put out a decent effort since MLB 2k7. I think we're all getting our hopes up for nothing. But hey, anything is better than Madden

True, and that is probably one of the main reasons that the NFLPA/NFL doesn't want to stop the deal. There is that risk. Not only that, it would take 2k maybe three years of dev time to release a decent, feature-full NFL game, but that might be extended past that considering the NFL would expect them to release a new game every year.

Though if those "rumors" were true that 2k has had players in for mo-capping, and rumors that they have apparently been working on a football game for a few years now (I'm guessing to show to the NFL; a prototype for negotiating?) then maybe we'd have a good game the first year.

Well, they did release All Pro Football 2K8 back in 07, which would be a solid foundation to start. I can't see it being much of a stretch to assume that 2K has been working with the base of All Pro and perhaps have something further along than we may think. The shelving of MLB may also help to reason that they are starting to ramp up for their return to football and the NFL license.

I hope so.

I wouldn't view their MLB 2Kn efforts of the last few years as representative. When new management at Take-Two took the helm, they went to the MLB in attempts of renegotiating the MLB contract so that 2K sports would not lose so much money. The MLB had none of it and would not alter the terms. After that, 2K Sports seems to have reduced resources and just "phoned it in" until the contract expired.

The MLB now only has MLB: The Show . . . which is a great game but only Sony platforms.

Was nba 2k phoned in as well? An embarrassment of a game unless you only play single player

NBA 2K series' effort has been just as bad if not worse than the shit people give EA over Madden. I have no idea why people give the benefit of the doubt to 2K in regards to a football game. Their NBA series has been phoned in and their MLB series has been garbage.

Even if 2K isn't able to release a great game in year one, which is to be expected, just having competition will force both companies to give their best effort.

Didn't work with the MLB games, as 2K had Sony outclassing them for years and still put out shit, and this year's NBA game, as 2K had Live finally coming back and still released a buggy/microtransaction riddled game with a nice, shiny new coat of paint.
