Ace Attorney 1-3 being re-released on 3DS in Japan

Also: AA Japanese blogger hoso_boso confirms the graphics are based off of the artbook, like the iOS versions. There don't seem to be any other interface changes (eg. profiles/evidence on the bottom screen are setup like in the DS games).
Eeeehhhhh, not good news, hopefully they improved it.

Wait, hoso_boso's Twitter account has a link to a page where there's a scan...but it's censored, whyyyyyyyyyy.

Because scans are a strong no-no in Japan. He always takes a photo to show the gist of what's there (and confirm he has the magazine) but censors it so that people go and buy the article themselves.

I paid $30 for Dual Destinies and the cost involved in AA5's development was the same cost an Ace Attorney 1 remake would have, in addition to the cost of writing the script, localizing it, designing characters, creating music, and as you said creating the game engine and programming logic.

Did the money to do all those things come from a fairy? Or is it possible that an AA1 remake in the AA5 engine would cost less than AA5 did to make? (Granted, perhaps Capcom would expect better sales for AA5 than it would expect for a remake of AA1.)

I don't mean to say your price point is unrealistic, I mean to say your assuming that they can reuse a lot of AA5 assets and that Capcom would be willing to do this work in the first place is unrealistic.

It's true remakes would be less work than a full new AA game. But it'd still be a lot of work and put a drain on the assets team that is probably working on AA6 or AAI3 right now.

According to Google Translate, the game is 85% completed and we won't be seeing any official information until the 23rd.

Yep. But bear in mind it's the 23rd in Japan right now, so I'd expect official media in a few hours.

I do hope that, at the very least, the english font won't look like ass. I hated the font in the iOS collection (I believe the game just used the system font right?). It just looked wrong, both the text and the text boxes.

hoso_boso says the Japanese font looks like DD's, so I imagine the English font will be the same as well.

I honestly thought the iOS art wasn't that bad. What killed it were the choppy animations. I have no idea why, but it all moved way too slow, and it looked awful. Like, whenever it did quick pans in a court room scene, the little blob to simulate motion blur is clearly visible for way too long, and it looks terrible.

I hope the 3DS versions don't have that problem....

Alright, awesome news. DD's font was more than serviceable to me.

This thread reminds me that I should really get around to the AA5 DLC case I downloaded a few weeks ago, lol. The collection news has got me back in the mood :D

I totally would buy this if it comes out West. And I would hope they would follow it with another three game compilation featuring AA4, AAI 1&2.

Don't forget the fact that nobody blinked in the iOS version.

Hmm, DD's English version had room only for two lines of text, while AA1-3 had room for three lines. If they change it to DD's style, they'd likely have to completely remake the little sound/screen effects and when the animations change.

So I guess this means a remake of the first 3(maybe 4) games is going to be a no go? I was hoping to replay those games with the 3D artstyle, but this might be good enough.

Very small but here's the box art

Looking good. Don't have a problem with the artwork being used instead of sprites, I have the DS games anyways :p

Hopefully the port is handled better here than on smartphones. Hoping this comes westward, digital or otherwise (its already playable in English, don't be stupid Capcom...). I'm a sucker for this series, I'll buy it all.

Who's the guy in the middle? I don't recognize him.

I believe that's Franziska, with whip in hand.

Edit: Anyone else have any ideas? Looking at it again, I don't quite think the outfit matches, but I can't think of anyone closer off the top of my head...

Based on the trailer, they seemed to have fixed the slowdown when moving from defense to prosecution from the iOS port. Good sign.

here's the screens off the website.

Looks pretty good to me, sharper and cleaner than the original sprites without looking flat and lifeless like the other "HD" versions. Though since it's not full res and not showing any of the more problematic characters, I'll reserve final judgement.

Edit: ^^^ D'oh!

I also hope it has the higher quality DS music, and not the GBA versions! Man, so many more worries now that we know it's using the iOS art.

The WiiWare ports had the highest quality music, right? And the first game on iOS had music from that (I think) but the other two didn't for some reason.

I feel fairly confident this will fix most if not all of the problems the smartphone versions had.

It's Franziska. She's holding a whip.
