I guess at the end of the day it doesn't matter, he'd never show his face again (...right?). Thats basically the same thing as a ban. Not the same as an apology however.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I think its going to be locked 30 on release.

Anything is possible. But I played the PS4 build yesterday, and the first thing I noticed was "wow, this looks 60fps".

Suddenly a cash in port of a game that's less than a year old just became the most important game on the internet.

Smooth move CD. Enjoy all the free publicity.

This just keeps getting better and better.

Not really...at least not when the game first came out it was known to crash alot.

With every option on max and tress fx off I was at 60fps probably 75% of the time. If the PS4 can keep up with that with tress fx on then color me impressed.

It's Tressfx 2.0, less demanding but less impressive. The hair isn't crazy at least, as seen from the Twitch video.

This announcement seems pretty casual. Do you think they aren't allowed to officially declare (eg in press releases/marketing) that one version is superior to the other?

Voice Commands and the Achievements > framerates??! Seriously?

Not just voice commands..."slightly better" voice commands, since PS4 has the voice commands as well. And apparently achievements (despite PS4 version obviously having trophies) are more important than 60fps.

This is going to happen all generation. In a year, we'll all be just assuming such differences are the rule.

The crazy is this is just the beginning of the generation.

I imagine the gap is going to be insane once we see Naughty Dog's work on the PS4 lol.

Did you see his tag? He was caught flatfooted in the other thread being a confirmed Microsoft shill. These aren't his genuine opinions bro. He has to say these things. :)

I actually kinda agree. All games would be great with 60fps, but slower games like this and TLOU don't really need it.

Anyway, pretty funny how PC elitists were going "My almighty rig couldn't do 60fps with Tressfx on, no way PS4 could do it". Yeah, maybe other graphical effects are turned down, possibly Tressfx is less detailed, but for now this is great news.

So, PC types, take this Definitive and 60fps and shove it up your behinds.

But can it run Crysis?

No but for real, can Ps4 run Crysis 3 at full native 1080p with most of the settings set to ultra or very high? Doubt it. But a graphics card in the $300-400 range can.

PC already had the "definitive" Tomb Raider at the game's launch.

He already stated he was misquoted.

Scott Amos (Executive Producer) also confirmed it here: http://www.twitch.tv/gamesradar/b/497373767 @50:35

Enjoy your inferior version.

Lol I can't believe the Xbox One is this weak compared to the PS4. That's hilarious. Tomb Raider is a last gen game. :p

Gonna be horrible later down the line, if it's already this bad. I hope it never gets 720p/30 frames (and lower) vs 1080p/60 frames (or even locked 30 frames) bad.

Microsoft really botched the power of the Xbox One, damn.

The producer said on Twitch that it was a misquote.

I don't believe that for a second. It's marketing.

Expect A LOT of this this gen folks. There's no reason for publishers to "put down" one version of their game, especially so far from release date. The longer info it out there, the more ears it reaches.

Resolution and Framerate info will be release a few weeks out, as has been the case so far, to minimize fallout. Until then both will be said to be running at X. If you question what changed, "we were able to squeeze out some more last min".

An unlocked frame rate that moves between 30 and 60fps is worse than a locked 30. Yuck.

it is infact counter productive to make a sagme that is rock solid 60fps at absolutely all times. as for that to be true you will want to aim for your game to be hitting 70fps+ in standard gameplay just so you dont dip under 60 during those especially taxing moments.

To be honest It's perfectly fine for the game to drop a load of frames when something really taxing happens (large explosion with many enemies and many physics objects) because making the game always run at 60 with no exceptions doesnt make good use of the hardware during general gameplay.

Even games praised for their framerate (gt, cod, metal gear rising) have many framerate dips under 60fps. its jsut the nature of the beast so to speak

At least we can bring up his 30% quote and all of the other hilarity every single time a multiplat has a big difference. But yeah, the initial rant + apology tour was pretty audacious and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It was clearly all bullshit or he was deluded.

I love his DIRECTX rant. One of the all time greatest GAF posts, up their with Amir0x's famous melt down and the "I'm and expert" post.

Except of course that Penello said it purely as FUD, to put the weight of his position behind rubbishing the claims that the Xbone was underpowered and compromised. A job well done, when looking at the sales of the Xbone. He knew full well the power differences and the issues that 3rd parties were having, but he just cared about getting the console over the line and launched to as many people as possible.

Didn't the Executive Producer for Tomb Raider, Scot Amos, recently confirm it was 1080p, 30 frames on both consoles?

Well... guess this is STILL running at 30 FPS on both. :p So he wouldn't exactly be lying! That powergap, lol.

Meh. Don't really care myself. Still buying this on my Xbox One over my PS4, just for the slightly better Voice Commands and the Achievements.
Let me just say that I've read several pro MSFT posts by you and simply ignore them but if you're telling me you have a PS4 and are getting the XBone versions for the reasons you listed then do yourself a favor and sell the PS4. There's no point in spend 900 dollars on 2 next gen platforms if you're not going to get the superior versions of games over trivial features like voice commands and achievements.

If you do have a PS4 then it was a waste of your money so I hope you value that.

It's not really in their best interest to do that. The same thing happened with CoD. Mark Rubin just took to his Twitter account and announced the resolution. But they want people that own either console to buy it, so they aren't going to really push that one version is better than the other.

I wouldn't be surprised if that happens... And you shouldn't be surprised either.

Go PS4..... So is $60 justified for PS4 now? ;)

I am impressed by the PS4 being so close to PC and even matching the framerate

It is for me. Just sell your (PS360) version and bring the price down to $45 bucks. And if you never played it of course it's worth it.

Judging by your post history and tag, I would imagine the real reason is you don't even own a PS4. Why the hell would you own one if something THAT stupid trumps DOUBLE the framerate for you?

I (thought I) loved on NES when I would do something awesome and it would start flickering and slowing to a crawl. Made me feel like I accomplished something.

Hmmm. I already own this on PC but I haven't played past the first hour and I can't pull 60fps on my rig at 1080 with everything dialed up. But on the other hand 60 bucks is kind of high for a game that I already own. Hmmm. Dilemmas, dilemmas.

It runs at 60 fps most of the time. Slight dips once in a while. The "30 fps" is the minimal goal the devs set for themselves when it was being created. Those that have played it, in the comments, said it 95% the time it's running at 60 fps. It's not "moving between 30 and 60 fps" as if it's contently thrashing.
