PS4 firmware 1.60 released. Pulse headset support, mute camera, stability

I thought that this was disproven and that it is a minimal gain from shutting off?
Several gaffers claim that they get double the battery life when they manually disabled the LED in the DS4. I believe those over Shu who's defending his policy of not allowing us to turn if off.

any news whether they will add the friends offline online notification like it was in ps3?

man i dont even know if my friend was there or not while playing online... its only when he joins in the party chat we would come to know...

Nice one, was waiting for the headset support. Camera mute was also needed. I'm glad they were not slower sorting this out.

So happy this has come, I got some Pulse Elites for Xmas in anticipation. I will be interested to hear the reviews on the quality of the new headsets too.

It's a little disappointing that 3 months after launch this is all we're getting.

How about "favorites" in your friends list? A really obvious thing that needs to be implemented.

Maybe this update has the HDCP removal. Probably wouldn't be something they made a big deal about, although it could be in the full change log.

Ok, this is cool.

I'm curious if there'll be another FW update later this month when they launch in Japan... I was honestly expecting this 1.60 update to come out then but now that it's here they could be rolling out some more significant feature updates for their launch.

My problem is the ridiclous battery life because of this. There needs to be an option to turn it off.
Agreed. The battery life is pants.

Edit. The ability to remove the play room from the xmb would be nice too considering I dont have a camera.

My guess? Once they've sold enough cameras, magically we will be able to disable the light bar and remove playroom.

this will clearly double the battery life of the DS4.. awesome..

weren't you just complaining about Pulse support like 2 days ago? no love for that?

Anyways, as well-intentioned as the tests that GAFfer made were, I would not call that a definitive answer. Hell at the top of the thread it's already spun out into "several gaffers confirmed".

What we know is that the DS4 has pretty bright LEDs. That's about it. LEDs are usually an infinitesimal draw so these would be somewhere above that.

Didn't a member on here conduct a test and found the controller with the light off lasted much longer?

I think that he didn't do anything with the controllers while he tested them. Doesn't really apply to real life usage.. Unless you use your PS4 as a netflix player.

I suppose Sony wouldn't release another semi-interesting firmware update within the month to coincide with the Japan launch carrying some other features (i.e. suspend/resume)?

The controller was just sitting stationary though, drawing less power than it would in normal operation. Therefore the relative importance of the LED on the battery life would be increased, meaning we don't know if it's important or not in normal operation. It could be that it is only accounts for 10% of the power draw typically. Won't know without another test.

Unless there was an update to that thread I missed.

No fix on the 15 minutes of recorded gameplay? Really sucks because last night my dad and I did something awesome in BF4 but the footage never saved.

So, Pulse and new headset are in, but what about Bluetooth headsets that people already have that are not Pulse headsets? Would love for my Turtle Beach Tangos to work fully wirelessly again.

I thought someone posted in the past few weeks that they were not doing anything to change the light bar (not adding the ability to turn it off).

Actually Shu said on Twitter that he thought a dimming feature would be welcome. I don't think they can disable it altogether because of functionality promises they've made to devs.

Sony said multiple times that all entertainment apps won't require PlayStation Plus, so you're safe :)
Read his post again friend... and then "add" an additional comments to your post questioning how you could miss such a thing (with out editing your original post).

I bet they haven't fixed Share button yet. Half of the time it records something 15 minutes ago instead of current events. So annoying, missed a ton of stuff and I just don't bother anymore.

Thats what I read too, but it doesnt need to be disabled. Just an option to dim or disable but I guess it will come eventually.

This is a fantastic patch for me, I hated playing online while the camera was hooked up, and I really love using my Pulse Elites. Excited for tomorrow!

OK, I missed that one. That would be just fine to me. It only bothers me when playing games I want to play in the dark, which at the moment is only KZ:SF and not necessarily all of the time.

It would be an issue with games like Dead Space though, if anything like that comes to PS4, which I'm sure is just a matter of time.
