I've watched some disturbing things, but the Abe and Glenn scene turned my stomach. That said, I don't think they should change based on outcry, considering if it's too much you can just not watch. I think a lot of people were more turned off by losing Glenn and Rick getting broken than the gore.

Wow fuckin whiners won out. One violent scene on the first episode and not much since and there's less in the second half?

I guess the war ends with rick and the saviours sharing a gentlemanly handshake and parting ways before winking at the camera.

I completely agree. In retrospect, I'm shocked that made it to air as well. I gave my opinion before on Glenn and Abe's deaths being a little too over the top, but to tone down the violence simply because some people who probably don't even regularly watch the show got offended is dumb.

Lol so fucking stupid. How you could watch this show and only now get upset over the violence? Where were all these complaints in the opening of season 5? Or when Noah got his fucking face ripped apart. Pretty sure people were just mad that their favorite was getting killed and they had to see them go out in a terrible way. If this shit happened to someone like Tobin no one would've given a rat's ass. Don't know why they would tone shit down when the majority of people didn't actually give a fuck.

I get why it's there and I don't complain, but I'm happy with this. I'm here for the story (lol), not the violence. The violence was over the top this season. It was disgusting. I usually watch shows while eating but I can't watch this show at dinner anymore.

It's always been bad. We all get that. We all expect it. But you cannot deny that this season is worse simply because of who Negan is. It was important that they establish the character that way. But he's established now. They can safely back off until the conclusion of his story arc when that violence will need to be revived.

Yes the first half was very slow and boring at times but come on. We got introduced to 2 communities we had never seen before, got to see the saviors HQ, a bunch of characters from all these communities were introduced. The world has expanded more than ever in this show, so shit definitely happened in this first half. But I definitely agree that I hope this half picks up the speed and we get some more action. With Rick back in fighting mode I feel like there's a good chance of that happening.

Girlfriend and I (reluctantly, from my end) binged the rest of the first half this weekend (we'd both only seen the season premiere). I've never seen a show before where you pretty much only need to watch 4/16 episodes each season - the premiere, the mid-season finale, the second half premiere, the finale. Basically one decent episode followed by six trash ones and followed up with another decent one. Lather, rinse, repeat twice a season, every season. I know a big part of it is how monetized the show has become and how AMC is going to bleed it for every last cent, but goddamn, this is awful storytelling. And let's not act like the 6 episodes between the premiere and finale are packed with deep, nuanced character development.

Ehh I don't think there's a point in finding this weird medium between the extremes when it comes to the violence. People asked for this after the cliffhanger so they went all out. It's not like Negan is bashing heads in every episodes. At least we expecting things to turn up this season. Stuff like Noah's death was very graphic and came out of nowhere.

Man some of you must have never watched zombie media if you can't handle some gore. Its a bloody zombie show. I want to see people get completely fucked up. I like that you laugh at the fact you watch for the story. The writing ranges from mediocre to awful.

The violence was relatively the same as has always been, the difference is that humans were causing the violence instead of zombies. Negan bashing in someone's skull is worse than a face being chewed off? Having Negan spill someone's guts with a knife is worse than a zombie doing the exact same thing with its teeth?

Most people ignore the writing because unless you are literally reading subtitles or the script you will forget it within seconds. People like a story if it has good execution. Good writing can only make a story better arguably, not worse.

Negan gutting Spencer was kind of stupid and over-the-top. Like, I wouldn't expect that outside of a Sam Raimi or Troma movie.

If they're cutting back on the ridiculous violence I think I would be fine with it.

Whether or not they should tone down the violence, there is a distinct difference between killing walker-fodder and destroying your fav characters in a visceral way.

They wanted to recreate the same scene from the comics (it was pretty much the same, with the guts and shit all over the floor) which is always nice.

And regarding the violence and gore: I don't mind it. I mean, we are watching a show based on a comic which happens on a post-apocaliptic world where for some fucked up reason, humans turned into zombies and started to eat each other out. Of course there's gonna be blood, violence and shit. Since Ep1S01 we are always witnessing how a zombie dismembers someone or a human chops the head out of some of these creatures. The "extreme" violence was always in the show. But in the last couple of years, people started to complain or go out on a limb to defend someone else's feelings (but I guess that discussion is for another thread).
Oh and I read a few days ago that they actually won't tuned down the violence. But I don't care because that's not the real problem: they are incapable of write a 6 good strings of episodes in a row.

I am probably the least excited to watch this show ever. The break, and the stuff said by people in charge during the break, soured me. I love the Negan arc and the Kingdom arc in the comics so I will likely watch regardless.

The show really needed what happened in S701. If those in charge dont understand that they really have a problem. There were very few other ways to legitimise Negan after 6 years of various forms of violence and gore before him. With what happened in S701 Negan now feels like a bigger threat, not just another threat. And because he is a bigger threat, there will be a much bigger payoff when the gang finally gets revenge.

And for those still annoyed about Glenn, the show did not kill and forget about him. He is referenced almost every episode since his death. This means his death meant something, and will have a payoff in the overall Negan story going forward. Maggie's emotions and outbursts continue to make Glenn important.

This show certainly has had issues over the years, but one of the few times I felt they were building to something great, they look to want to water it down.

Well, at least I am not hate watching the show - again. Never forget Hershel's farm. NEVER.
