How do you play local multiplayer with an out-of-region 3DS? My niece and nephew want to play MK7, but my 3DS is European.
Is there any need to keep the homebrew launcher if I have a9lh installed on my 3DS?
I'm finding that I just use fbi To install most things using the QR reader.
But I'm worried that deleting the hbl will bring problems.
Sounds like you want to switch to the rgui menu and/or activate advanced options.Okay, what's the deal with NEStopia?
I updated the newest .cia from the FBI TitleDB, so it's version 1.5, and it sucks ass. Its in the XMB theme now. You can't change the aspect ratio and there's like less options, I can't remap buttons like I had before when I had save state and load mapped to zR and zL. Those mapping options are nowhere in the menu anymore.
I do not know which version i was previously using. I went back to the retroarch page and redownloaded the last stable builds going back to 1.3, but none of them have the menu I'm used to, they still have the XMB style menu with alot leas options in the menu and quick menu.
... Anyone else know what I'm talking about? What am I missing here?
Depends on the game - however I'm fairly certain NES, GB, GBC, GBA and SNES injects will always beat RetroArch in terms of accuracy. Genesis ones are iffy so I don't bother with them. Are the emulators better than the VC injects? Maybe for any particular games? What's the advantage of using Retroarch over the injects/CIA? Any thing in terms of playability or compatibility? Lag, speed, accuracy?

I'm finding SNES9X on the New N3DSXL from the gbatemp forums to be the best. The right amount of customisation and performance.Have you (or anyone?) tried Super Mario RPG? From my research this game doesn't seem to play well if at all. What about Star Fox or Yoshi's Island? If I could play these on my n3DS at work during lunch I'd cry tears of joy.

SMRPG works great.
Your best chance of getting help is to ask on the Discord linked from the guide. So I'm pretty sure I bricked a N3DSXL and could use some advice. So I'm at the part where you're on 2.1.0 and aren't supposed to close the system, right? I complete those steps fine and move on to the next section, which is to load up 2xrsa.3ds.guide in the browser. Ooops, I forgot to set up wifi - so I hit the home button and it freezes going back to the home menu. Crap... I tried to wait it out but eventually forced it to turn off by holding the power button. Now I get a blue light and two black screens when I turn the thing on. Did I just ruin someone's LE 3DS? :/

Edit 2: Success!
Yes.Just to confirm, it's safe to update to 11.4 if I just update Luma first right? (Currently on 11.3 with cfw)

Anyway to run this on 11.4 on a 2DS ?
Please note that this guide will have very large changes coming later today. Please finish any in-progress installations as quickly as possible, and wait to start any new installations.
From 3ds.guide:
Seems SigHax is finally coming.
Allegedly full signing for third party firmware. Should allow direct installs without any wacky backdoor trickery. What's SigHax?
Seems like it's out now.
http://www.sighax.com
And 3ds.guide is updated
Maybe now I can finally stop being lazy and move from the menuhax/luma set up I have to something more modern.
Because both menuhax and luma fail to boot probably 3/5 times with the setup I have now. And Luma just made a commit that will bar all future Luma releases from working with menuhax. Plus the latest NTR does not work with the setup I have, either, and I'd like to try the video streaming feature of that.
Can you please explain what you mean? Are you saying your 3ds is already hacked but you're going to rehack it using a different method? If so, why?
So if we already had luma installed from an earlier firmware we don't really need sighax right?

I don't have a9l. I never did it since it sounded risky/time consuming. Boot9strap seems way faster, and safer.I can confirm moving from al9hax to sighax is easy peasy, takes about 15 minutes.
Take note though, of all luma chainloaders only GodMode9 seems to be ported to the new format, so if you have emotional attachment to Decrypt9, you're out of luck for now.
(GdMode9 can do anything Decrypt9 did and more though)
What are the benefits of boot9strap?
I updated from A9HL to Sighax. The transition was incredibly easy.
Now, let me ask you... What are the benefits for the end-user? Will we see anything massive like the switch from Themehax to A9HL?
Oh wow. I have been out of the loop for way too long.
I always thought A9Lh was the final state of 3DS hacking, "this can't get any better".
But apparantly it can. But it seems updating is easy, so no problems there I expect.
But, from a technical point of view, how is this different?
I see some peope describing this as true custom firmware, instead of just something that runs on top of the offical one. But the process still involves Luma, but that's still a patch, isn't it?
Can't find anything about sighax in the guide for 3DS XL, I am missing something or is it under a different name like hardmod?

There really shouldn't be any direct benefits for an end user. This takes control a few milliseconds earlier which lets you dump the Bootrooms (both ARM9 and ARM11) and OTP. Unless you have some kind of console death wish and wish to try permanently writing fake signed Firmware to your system it can't really do anything A9LH couldn't apart from that.
Honestly the primary benefits to end user involve installation: no longer involving downgrading the firmware, hardmod version working on everything known today including hardly touchable Korean/Taiwanese/Chinese 3DSes etc.. If you already had A9LH installed, there aren't really obvious gains. Hack devs want you to move onto b9s to not support two of them, though maybe they'll dig out something in the future.

Another question. What's the state of hacking 11.4? I know there's no way to install A9HL on a fresh 11.4 console, but does Sighax alter anything of the process? I'm asking about this because I've already pre-ordered a New 2DS and I would love to hack it, but it's definitely coming with 11.4 (or higher) out of the box!
@Platy
Its Boot9Strap , which is the SigHax implementation being used here.
All the links are supposed to eventually use sighax now, the links are for entry method. If you already have Arm9LoaderHax installer you should use a separate method however, because the two conflict when installed independently of each other, and starting with A9LH is way easier if you already got it.
The guide also uses "boot9strap" label to be slightly more precise. To be pedantic, sighax is the exploit which makes ARM9 bootrom load anything, and the particular anything they used is boot9strap, which then loads stuff up from SD card (like Luma).
if you follow the A9LH method lately, you know that with soundhax it was very easy to install A9LH with 99.9 risk free.
the new method only changed couple of files, but it remains almost the same (except for 11.4)
New 2DSXL may comes with new chip, but if not
you can still hardmod or DSi transfer.
Didn't a9l always require downgrading to 2.0? I was more concerned with the amount of time than risk, although risk of screwing up with the wifi thing worried me too.
That and not really understanding what I needed to do and what I didn't need to do since my 3DS is already hacked in a certain way and can already run things like homebrew menu.
Sorry for a potentially dumb question, but if I have a brand new New 3DS that I want to install homebrew on, I presume I need to transfer the Nintendo ID I want to use first from my previous 3DS, then do the homebrew set up?
on what update are you now?
The current 3DS has 11.4.0-37U, the new New 3DS has 11.0.0-33U.
Yeah, I see what you're saying about the 3dsguide info, but my question is this: the one running 11.0 is a new console I want to install homebrew on and make my regular console, and the 11.4 is the previous one that's been used everyday. If I install the homebrew on the 11.0 new console first, can I then transfer the profile from the 11.4 existing console over without problem? Or do I need to do the profile transfer first? Or does it not matter? Hopefully that all makes sense.the 11.4 right now only with hardmod or DSi transfer according to 3ds.guide
11.0 can be easily hacked with Soundhax.
so,if you hacked the 11.0 and you have one of the followings DSi games on the hacked 3DS:
"Fieldrunners"
"Legends of Exidia"
"Guitar Rock Tour"
"The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords"
then you can inject a save file to those games and make system transfer to the 11.4 3DS.
