In the event that this order triggers any official government action at all, we will see Trump in court, again.

Trump merely provided a faux sop to religious conservatives and kicked the can down the road on religious exemptions on reproductive care.

The directive to explore religious-based exceptions to healthcare does cue up a potential future battle, but the status quo has not changed.

Trump’s assertion that he wished to ‘totally destroy’ the Johnson Amendment with this order has proven to be a textbook case of "fake news."

We thought we'd have to sue Trump today. But it turned out the order signing was an elaborate photo-op with no discernible policy outcome.

This is what most of his EOs are, a load of nothing. Most of them don't actually do anything, they're just things like "An order that reaffirms general support for the concept of ____" or "Ordering officials to maybe look into this subject and come up with some plans".

It makes it look like he's passing big EOs on crime reduction, religious causes, antiterrorism, etc without actually doing anything. Several of the few that actually did something like his Muslims bans, were struck down by courts.

It's all bullshit marketing.

Why do you think he does that instead of writing something with more bite in it?

For starters, they have no plans for anything, so it's all general platitudes that mean little but you can put in a headline. Second, they wanted to make it seem like he's accomplishing a lot in his 100 days so he was always signing something or other, that give the illusion of him working on his campaign promises without actually doing a thing. Third, the Muslim ban being struck down twice and the sanctuary city EO being stuck down will have told his advisers that any extreme EOs are probably just going to be stopped by the courts so there's no point.

This is what Trump knows. Bullshit marketing and fake public images, it's the only thing he knows, he's clueless on everything else, particularly how government works. Combine that with a dysfunctional cabinet of crooks and idiots and you get this charade.

Most of the things he wants to do either require Congressional approval, or are illegal on their face and would be struck down by just about any court. The EOs just let him pretend that he's doing something useful.

We all know his EO's are bs that are constantly struck down. Lets be thankful we have a system in place to prevent dictatorship.

You know it's all bs when his AG doesn't bother to fight the blocked EOs even with a new conservative justice majority at the Supreme Court.

Because to bite, it requires you to move your muscles, which requires work, which isn't something that they're prepared to do.

Interesting interpretations. Why not just make an EO with more bite, since it's going to get struck down anyway? I mean, wouldn't that be a better way to fire up his base?

This is kinda funny considering how much I kept talking last year about the system being able to keep him in check if he were to get elected, and how we're not heading towards Hitler 2. I hope people can see now the point I was trying to make.

That would assume he actually respects his base and believes they can tell the difference between meaningful and non-meaningful policies. And despite claims to the contrary, it's clear that losing in court bothers Trump a lot. He doesn't like losing and he's at least learned overreaching on EOs is a quick way to a very public loss.
