Great OP, have been looking forward to this one for quite a long time now.

Peasant version for me
:(

No need to feel bad! I am getting it for the PS3.

Some of us aren't PC gamers, and while the PC gamers will get to gloat about superior versions of Obsidian games (Alpha Protocol and upcoming New Vegas) us console gamers get to appreciate the glory that is New Vegas.

No offense to Evilore but you really push the PC side of things mr. bias man ;), and of course the console gamers just use the SAME arguments over and over to defend it.

I'll tell you the real reason why, I just like consoles more. Its my thing, its what I like. Whatever. Alpha Protocol sales = a good thing, who cares what system!

My hype has waned greatly over the past decade or so that it has been delayed, but someone in the Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines thread mentioned that Bloodlines and AP share the same writer so I will be there on day one.

He did a lot of early development work, but who knows how much is still there in the years since he left Obsidian

A shameful one. =( Also the retail copies will more likely go down in price faster than a steam copy (since I don't do PC physical copy).

Where do you live? I paid less than 30 Euros on Direct2Drive.

I don't see much of an argument ;b

Preordered this on Steam long ago, even though it forced that horrendous Space Siege shit on me (way to punish your pre-order customers Sega!).

By far my most anticipated game this year.

finally checked out the PAX Conference video, I don't see how anyone that has watched the entire video can still be skeptical about the game, my hype level just maxed out

Ugh, crappy DRM and $70US on Steam? Sorry SEGA, waiting for a sale on this one.
It's $50, you can find it cheaper elsewhere, it only needs to be activated once, no internet connection is required while playing it, and you can install it on 5 different computers at any time. That's crappy DRM? On how many consoles can you install the console version?

Um... It is $70US in Australia on Steam, which is the only DD service I use. 5 activation limit is pretty crappy to me. Sorry for having a different opinion.

5 activations at a time. If you deactivate one, you can activate another, there's no life time limit.

His version and characters are scrapped, which is a shame.

Day 1 Physical Pc copy. I just can't afford the DD price premium. Of course if i really wanted to pay less then i could just not buy it day 1, though i doubt it's gonna get much cheaper than £18 for a good few months.

Why is steam more expensive than the d2d? Shouldnt all dd services have the same price barring sale offers?

Will pick this one up on the PC, been looking forward to it for awhile now.

I just hope the shooting mechanics are better than they look in all the gameplay videos I've seen.

I dreamt I was playing this tonight (though I could've been watching a Quick Look). The AI looked really good. And there were pornstars involved.

This game will be awesome.

So, is this like Mass Effect without the space opera sci-fi?
It's more like Deus Ex without William Gibson or Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines without the vampires. Proper stats and abilities (sneaking etc.) and actual choice in and out of combat (unlike ME).

The things that may remind you of Mass Effect is the use of UE3, the conversation system ("attitudes" rather than set lines of dialogue, and the camera angles) and the way you unlock new abilities by progressing though a skill tree for a weapon or such (also kinda like Dawn of War 2 in that regard, though it's mostly just a layout thing).

That is a bloody good price, it is tempting. So used to Steam though! :D

As always idaho, check zavvi as well. It's $35 from there including shipping. If stock is ok it should take 1 - 2 weeks. Both zavvi and the ebay guy are in the UK, so same shipping time i would imagine.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I just finished a paper for school and am about to start RDR finally, so the wait shouldn't be too bad.

Will wait for reviews as it looks like a poor mans Mass Effect at the moment. Hopefully it won't be :)

Holy crap, I thought the lame replies thing in the OP covered everything but I guess not. :lol

Hype for this has decreased, but with the pedigree behind it I can't pass it up. I just wish there was a fourth option for the JB style dialogue/action system.
Jack Burton.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I will hold off on this one until we get some proper feedback. I love the concept but this doesn't seem to have got the Bauer/Bond/Bourne tone right. The main VO is bland and there are some odd Austin Powers meets Kill Bill style characters. I hope it turns out well though, Obsidian deserve better than they've had the last few years.

I'd highly suggest adding these to the OP:
(though they contain spoilers to that specific scenario)

The official Alpha Protocol blog. If anything will sell you on the game, it is Chris Avellone's "Confessions, Motivations, and Moral Codes"; if you read ONE thing on Alpha Protocol, read that. "Alpha Protocol - From Analog Script to Digital Vision" is also extremely cool for showing you the impressive-looking dialogue flowcharts.

- metacafe's interactive video (why this is *metacafe* exclusive of all places, I don't know)
http://blog.metacafe.com/2010/05/exclusive-alpha-protocol-interactive-gameplay-trailer/
Does a good job showing off choice in short segments.

- GT's interactive video
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/choose-surkovs-alpha-protocol/100102
Does a good job showcasing some consequence to a specific scenario. It is related to the metacafe one, but how it unfolds is completely different (
Surkov
is not missing), which shows how your previous choices (not shown here) can affect future scenarios.

Oh shit, I totally forgot that this is just around the corner. And I've already paid for this in full. Glad I managed to beat Alan Wake yesterday, so I'm ready. Well except for RDR... Fuck, what a month for gaming.
