Angry Video Game Nerd

I'd like to refer Mike to his Golden Tanooki suit rant video where he essentially says that if you suck at video games you shouldn't be allowed to enjoy/progress in them. I never get mad at videos but that video legitimately pissed me off.
What made matters worse was hearing him complain why the pause button was on LB (which he kept calling L1.... yeah because playing a 2D hardcore platformer like Megaman with a 360 controller is clearly a good idea) and how he wished he was just playing with an NES controller instead while simultaneously failing to realize that the Legacy Collection features a Button Configuration option. There he could've changed the buttons around to his liking but noooo he had to whine all the way through.

What made it unbearable was that every time he pushed the Back button by mistake when he meant to push LB for Pause the Collection's Menu would pop up and right there you could see in the stream the fucking BUTTON CONFIGURATION option staring right at his face.

That was hard to watch. I quit his streams after that shit.

His deadpan delivery, even when joking, is oddly captivating.

I know Battletoads only from watching footage, but it just looks absolutely brutal. That race level is infamous, but most of the stuff in this vid seems even worse, with how long and stretched out the segments are, then having a boss at the end too.

The turbo tunnel is definitely not the hardest part of Battletoads, it's the most infamous because it's what stopped like 99% of players dead in their tracks. Even if you went on to do well at the game it was a HUGE jump from the trivial first 2 levels, so it was just very memorable.

Turbo Tunnel is kinda easy compared to Volkmire's Inferno, Terra Tubes, Clinger Winger and The Revolution.

Yes, I'm at the end of Battletoads.

These were some particularly nerdy eps. James commenting on how AVGN would be his "Mario" and that Board James would be his "Metroid" and then Mike's whole spiel about how Samus is one of the hottest video game characters.

That video of James beating Metroid was great, showed his frustration of having to farm for life yet his persistence on beating the game. Intense as hell during the final battle, I was clenching my bumcheeks as hard as he was

For Metroid, all you need to do is die in Brinstar before Mother Brain and don't get that Energy Tank in the ceiling in one of the first rooms. There's more Energy Tanks in the game then you can carry, so two of them are just full heals. Then when you come back, get the Energy Tank instead of farming, and if you die on Mother Brain, just load your last save, since the game will automatically have the password in from your last game.

Nah, just use the Justin Bailey code to come back at full :p

James does very dumb things in games sometimes. Why would he farm for health using the small flying creatures that only give you 5 health? He's played through the game. He knows there are rooms with big monsters that usually give 20 health. There's one of them right beneath him! A room with giant birds that keep respawning as you go left to right and right to left.

Unlike the tiny insects James was fighting which often didn't give him anything at all, the giant birds are always guaranteed to give you something.

It's the difference between taking 6 minutes to get full health and taking 25 minutes.

And he went through that twice. What a big unnecessary waste of time.

Well, he's a casual. I probably would have done the same thing. And maybe because he hadn't played the game in a very long time, so he didn't know the in and outs of the rooms like hardcore players might :)

Man, can't believe Monster Madness has been happening for 9 freakin' years now. Wonder if he'll do something big/special next year to celebrate 10 years.

Also wonder what the "tie-in" AVGN episode will be (like Alien 3 & Beetlejuice).

Yay! Finally on YouTube <3
Mikes presence is a bummer :(

It really is. I'm sure he's doing fine work on the website, YouTube channel and other stuff, but he really isn't fun to watch. Even that one bit in the AVGN movie where he is just sitting there and not saying a single word is awful (ib4 the entire movie was awful).

Knowing him, I expected either Zelda or Peach, but Ms. Pacman is just random, ROFL.

Do you remember Mike's title card picture he drew for Atari Porn? Google that.

How could he not notice that bigger enemies give more health just playing through it? Every time you get an item in the game, there's a room with giant birds that give you 20 health.

Someone brought up a better solution In the comments section of youtube. Every Metroid you kill gives you either 30 health or 30 missiles. Wow, I didn't know that. That's clearly the best place to farm then.

That Mike dude is always interrupting James, and I always want to stuff my dirty socks in his mouth for it. Shut up Mike, I'm not here because of you!

I'd say Mike is like the Rob Schneider to James' Adam Sandler but that would be really cruel to both of them.

I don't dislike Mike but his stuff isn't great.

If Mike wasn't around, maybe James would be my friend! And then I could take his skin and become him!

Sometimes I feel like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre review goes over peoples' heads.

Eh.

Does he mention his plans for Mario Maker at all? That game was pretty much made to be in a James & Mike video (or videos, even) so it's weird that he's been so hesitant to talk about it so far.

I am not sure Mike would appreciate Super Mario Maker, and I bet James hasn't heard of it yet.

Mike's commentary would be something like, "Why the #%& would you want to build your own levels? You play games to have fun, right? But now I have to make my own #$%& levels? Nintendo has no clue what they are doing."

I'm pretty sure Mike said that he owns the game, and they have been planning on doing a stream for it. But they just haven't gotten around to it yet.

He didn't mention anything about it in his Mario Paint live stream.

Hmm ok, I am curious to hear his thoughts. I know that he hated Farm Simulator because it was a game about doing work, and I can see some might have the same approach for SMM.

Mike streamed an hour and a half or so of Mario Maker about a week ago. He just played some random levels but he seemed to enjoy it.

Seraphis Cain

bad gameplay lol
Looks like the entirety of "Season Two" of AVGN was just uploaded to the official Youtube channel in one big 3 1/2 hour long block. Interesting.

Mike streams more Mario Paint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pR-7fRIZZn4

He's currently drawing Jon Tron.

Yeah I could see Mike going either way on it. His snap judgments on games just seem to be based on what kind of mood he's in at the time. I think James would get a kick out of it though. Even has Mario Paint references that he'd really appreciate.

Its funny how the AVGN is such an impatient dick, while James must have the patience of a saint to deal with Mike. So often he will just completely misunderstand what james just said and then repeat it back to him instead.
