Arcade Fire announce new album Everything Now, out July 28, titular single out now

$$$$ is the big reason.

LCD needs it's own full ticket share.

LCD doesn't help AF sell out arenas, AF can do that with normal openers. Prices might go up, but that's dangerous to do when you're trying to sell as many tickets (very curious to see what Arcade will be charging this tour... I have a feeling it'll be sticker-shock-y)

but yeah, I see where LCD is in a weird position, like, I don;'t think they could play an Arena show in LA. Hollywood Bowl maybe.

In the rest of the country that isn't a huge city, 5-7k feels right, but that's a weird venue size.
Yeah, I suppose AF wouldn't gain a ton from the deal either. They're capable of filling just about any arena they want, and putting LCD on the bill only cuts into their share. Bumping up the price would play fine in larger markets (and might even cut off scalpers) - but would definitely hurt turnout in riskier markets.

Best tour of the summer, by far. The lineup is fucking incredible. If anyone hasn't seen Preservation Hall Jazz Band they rock. Angel Olsen is also very good.

EDIT: Neon Bible is GREATNESS. Turn the fucking album up.

All y'all posting these lame-ass lists and no one including 'The Suburbs' or 'Suburbs Continued', making me mad heated right now.

It's madness to even think that a band released an album with a short film directed by an all time great in Spike Jonze. Suburbs is also greatness.

I'm going to see Arcade Fire in about 2 weeks, can't wait. What kind of stuff are they playing live at the moment, is it going to be a lot of the new album?

Discovered Arcade Fire over the last year or so. They are amazing, and are now a part of my heart previously occupied by Coldplay before they got boring.

I feel like the artwork is a straight rip-off of Samuel Burgess Johnson's work for The 1975.

Eh, it's a colourful desert billboard rather than the stark b+w (or white + pink) of the 1975 covers, and the lighting isn't even neon/fluorescent tubing. By that logic you might as well say the 1975 s/t (2013) copied the cover of Neon Bible (2007).

I'm not talking about the album covers. SBJ did promotional images for each song on the 2nd album.

Oh man, you got me so excited for a minute but it looks like she's not opening the show I'd be going to. I really liked her last album and want to see her but looks like she's not coming back around here (even worse, she played in my neighborhood last year and I had no idea until months later).

Oh I see, my bad. The AF cover still isn't technically neon signage though, and I think the cut-out billboard replicating the horizon gives it a unique touch. I mean they're both pretty 'tumblr aesthetic' style anyway, you could say either were overlapping with the work of Jung Lee or Hito Steyerl.

What, Neon Bible is easily their best and Reflektor easily their worst. Y'all crazy
I agree that Neon Bible is their best. Funeral is not far behind. Both really nice albums.

Reflector is okay. Not good but not bad to listen to for the most part.

Suburbs may actually be the worst album that I've ever heard in my life. It's utterly insulting.

?????

what

Suburbs is brilliant. I loved its more melancholic and calmer style after the hard edge of Neon Bible. There are too many songs, granted, but Sprawl 2, Empty Room, Half Light, City with no Children in it are all classic AF songs.

Reflektor is probably their weakest album, but it has maybe their best song Afterlife.

Funeral is easily their strongest album. I can't believe I've been listening to it for 13 years.

Pretty stoked. The last two big releases from my favorite bands either didn't catch my attention or disappointed, so hopefully Arcade Fire can remedy that a bit.

Just gonna jump in while we're rating to say

Neon Bible>Funeral>>Reflektor>>The Suburbs

The first two I could see myself switching around, but I definitely like Suburbs least and I like Reflektor, but less than the first two albums.

Feel weird but the only Arcade Fire album I own (and really love) is Reflektor >_>

Guess I'm the only one hoping it's a continuation of that.

Yeah, no worries, my initial comment was a little antagonistic anyway. It just instantly made me think of it. I'll check out the two artists you mentioned.

Don't really see why everyone is bagging on Reflektor, it's a great album with some great songs. Afterlife, We Exist, and the title track are some kickass jams, and Normal Person and It's Never Over have got some dirty guitar going on.

If I could tweak the album at all, I'd remove Flashbulb Eyes and Here Comes the Night Time (not a fan of either track, though the latter is pretty fun live) and either cut Supersymmetry in half or layer the back half of the track over the front half. The "track plays itself in reverse" gimmick does nothing for me and makes it an immediately skippable track whenever it pops up on shuffle. But other than that, I think the album is great.

I'm seeing both AF and Angel Olsen tomorrow. Pretty stoked!

Primavera? For the last two years I've been tempted to make the trip, haha.

Just started to listen to Arcade Fire based on some stuff I read about some of my current favorite bands (Alt-J, Local Natives) being inspired by their music.

Definitely digging some stuff, I have Porno from Reflektor on repeat. Should I just listen to all of the albums in random order, or is there specific songs/albums that would be more inline with my taste (Songs like Porno for instance). I know that's a broad brush, just wondering.

liking porno makes me think neon bible's a good next step. definitely don't just like, hit shuffle on all their songs. listen to the albums.

(also if you love those 2 bands but haven't listened to fleet foxes, the national, radiohead, grizzly bear, animal collective's feels strawberry jam and merriweather post pavilion, or even all the way back to talking heads—would highly recommend it. imo all the above are much, much better than those 2 they inspired)
Good song, maybe a bit plain but sounds alright. I'm a big arcade fire fan, a new album is fantastic news.

To those hating on Reflector, do you realize the last track can be played completely backwards and sound awesome ?

yes and there's a track zero made up of reversed snippets of the entire album, in other words a reflection whooaaa mind blown...those easter eggs are novel enough but they don't exactly make the music better

got my floor tickets for the Forum in LA.

I will admit I'm a little bummed by the NA tour --- Reflektor had some awesome stops I traveled to (The Gorge, Starlight) beyond just seeing the release show on the rooftop of Capitol Records and Reflektors show at the Palladium.

This one doesn't have any like obvious great venues. Some of the European ones this summer are (the Castle shows and small venues) - but hard to justify.

Maybe on the second leg of the tour we'll see a cool venue in the US or two.

I'm also bummed only one night in LA so far, but I get they are going to the 360 show to sell more tickets and try play fewer larger shows.

I'm just gonna hope they headline Coachella next year. Man I wish they just did more expensive theater venues and did like 2 nights in a row in the larger markets. Large venues annoy me.

Do you mean starlight KC?

I've gone to both starlight shows in KC and they were awesome. Didn't know you came out. I feel the same way about moving to 360. I just got some tickets for KC. Still hyped.

yup. Starlight was one of their favorite venues and that was a killer show.

I get it, they are a super high-energy band and fewer performances is good on that front, especially as they will continue to need to push their set lengths with a larger and larger catalog and the expectation of playing more hits.

I'd guess Coachella is a sure thing next year though.

I get it. it's just sad. In line for Coachella pre sale for next year as we speak.

Great song; it's classic and uniquely Arcade Fire, but the sound has some hints of ABBA and Joshua Tree-era U2 as well, I feel.

I think it's pretty great! Loving the fuller poppy sound and the chugging Depeche Mode "Just Can't Get Enough" thing it has going on. And they've fully embraced Win Butler's inherent cheesiness....in a good way, I feel.

Ahh so relieving to see that of the 13 tracks 3 appear to be interludes/reprises, 10 actual songs is a perfect length.

I want a shirt with those logos
