Assetto Corsa (Console) |OT| Kunos tries to console us.

I'm starting to like the career mode in this game less and less. So the Advanced Trofeo series is exactly the same as Trofeo (they didn't even change the track list) apart from adding qualifying and forcing you to do 20 laps in each race? I'm not against endurance events, but having to do 20 laps (including in Spa) x8 just to unlock new championships is kinda stupid.

Never heard anyone ever talk about the AC career on the PC and personally I've played it for about 2 hours out of close to 300h now.

In other news Kunos announced the biggest and best patch for console players yet coming next week. Must be the lobbies thing.

Now you can say you met someone who played the career mode. ;p

And a small update to my previous post. It's not as horrible as I predicted, because longer tracks don't have 20 laps in the second Abarth series and the Ferrari Advanced Trofeo series seems to be the same in terms of laps (just with higher requirements for the number of points at the end of the championship).

Yo, AC is on sale on PC but apparently no season pass and only single DLC's.

As for me, I think I'm getting close to being done with the game, because I've hit a point where I've pretty much stopped enjoying singleplayer and multiplayer is too professional for my skill and playing using a controller. ;)

The career mode started okay like I said before, but it eventually turned into a snoozefest mixed with an insane grind. I've advanced to the GT series and they're horrible in terms of providing enjoyement, because they're all the same. You have six series and the only difference is what car you're driving. The tracks and other conditions are the same. Would it be that hard to rotate tracks or to come up with new ideas for events? I mean for God's sake, the career mode doesn't even feature tracks like Zandvoort or Nordschleife (!). Oh, and there's the GT Extreme series if you have really a lot of free time. 60-70 minute races and there's 7 of them in a single championship. Completing all the GT series would probably take me around 50 hours.

Ok, so if not career, then why not check out special events? They look nice on first glance, but the problem with them is that the difficulty spike is INSANE. For instance time attacks in the career never ask you to earn more than 5000 points. In special events 5000 points will get you bronze and to get gold you need 15000! This means you have to perfectly understand the rules of this mode and have like a flawless run of 10 laps. The races are even worse, because the kind of medal you get is tied to the AI difficulty level. Hard AI will only get you silver medal and to get the gold you need the AI on alien level. Oh, and some races are very short so even if you're a player with godlike abilities you have to be in a hurry to overtake the entire grid before the finish line. I know I could play just for the fun of it, but I like winning or at least finishing on the podium and the special events make it impossible for me to do that. ;p

So yeah, sorry for the wall of text. :D I'll have some fun with the cars I like in quick races and then I'm probably selling the game or it'll end up on the shelf for good. No thanks to the DLC's, because they're also tied to special events and I don't need more problems. ;)

Any patch notes? I don't know where to even look to find AC related news. I'm still waiting to be able to play private races with my friend.

I still have fun setting up one-off GT races against the AI at tracks like Monza. Been flip-flopping between this and the GTS beta and holy shit - it really does highlight how lame the audio is in GTS, and how important it is in generating immersion and excitement.

I'm still looking forward to the Scottish track and that 99p season pass...

The game wasn't planned to be bought, then played hardcore for 3 weeks and then it's onto the Mass Effect and Zelda. Not meant to be played as a main game. Even the hardcore sim guys who don't play other games and who like stuff like gamified challenge modes in racing games, wouldn't hold out longer than you did with AC.

I've seen this complaint quite a lot.
AC is good at this:

- "Oh my god, this feels amazing"
- "ok, next car and track to try out, wow this feels great too and really different"
- "let's play something else for a change"
- "oooh, new AC mod cars/tracks/official-DLC , haven't played AC in a while, nice!"
- "this is awesome, this really must be how it feels to drive this thing"
- "ok, I've tried out the new stuff, so what other game could I play next now"

There is no real structure that keeps you and makes you stick with it for longer. It's like Tetris.

I think what racing game makers should think about is how to make the player feel attached to a car - like they feel attached to their build in Dark Souls or how they grow attached to the protagonist of a linear game with strong story elements.
Now, I don't really want a story, but I'd like feel like
"I've played this game and this is where it got me: To this crew, this budget and this car, it's actually crappy on many levels, but it has charme and character and it's mine. It has these advantages over the other cars in my league and I have to make them work if I want to win."

This would be overkill, but have you seen this game, where you build a car?
https://youtu.be/NfQF9Pj4R_M
It's barely a game, I wouldn't recommend it on a gameplay level, but I hope some day a good game company will make a game where you can design your own race car and also decide to just buy and tune an engine or invest in engineers and a research department, then design parts of your car and test them. How cool would it be to have a research team later in the game that could find exploits in the homologation papers. Or having to cut cost for 2 seasons in order to build a new car. I'm babbling, am I? Sorry.

Actually with me it's totally different than wanting to be attached to a single car. I love feeling like a wealthy car collector in video games and switch cars with each new championship. Now I don't mind driving the same car for a longer period of time especially if it's a model or a vehicle class I really enjoy. I do have my limits though and AC does a really "good" job at finding them. ;)

The Scottish track isn't coming to consoles this month, is it?

This is from their Facebook page from April 14th (they attached the photo from the Scottish track). I would bet on them releasing it at the end of this month or at the beginning of May.

Hi everyone! Today, we want to give our community a quick update on the status of our next major console update...

Right now, we're finalising the last few submission blocking issues and localisations ahead of entering first party submission. This has taken slightly longer than expected but we've packed a lot into this update. Be rest assured, Kunos are working incredibly hard behind the scenes to make this the best update yet and as soon as we have a release date, we'll let you guys know.

Stay tuned for more info and thanks once again for your patience and continued support!

Middle of May and still no date? AC is my go-to driving game at the moment but I'm starting to crave more content. I've almost, almost, pushed the button on the £25 season pass but just know it'll halve in price as soon as I do, especially with the main game on sale on PSN right now.

I've read that Kunos reckon they've cracked some of the AI issues too, specifically the reluctance for them to overtake slower cars. Hopefully that'll also make it into the next console update.

Assetto Corsa Console Community Update (V 1.14)

Hi everyone! Today, we wanted to give our console community a rundown on what to expect in our next major console update. As many of you know, we were hoping to release in April, but despite our best efforts, it just wasn’t possible. However, be rest assured, we’re pushing incredibly hard right now to get this update out to you as soon as possible and we hope to share a launch date with you all soon.

CONSOLE UPDATE V 1.14 NOTES

Featuring all-new FREE bonus content, including 5 cars, as well as our home made Highlands track! The perfect track doesn’t exist. That’s why we created one.

AUDI QUATTRO S1 E2

Introduced back in 1984, the Audi Sport Quattro S1 E2 revolutionized rallying. Just like the other manufacturers, Audi used the lenient homologation requirements to create a new rally car. All the car maker needed for homologation was a production run of a mere 200 cars.

Blomqvist’s spectacular, sideways driving style suited the Sport quattro perfectly. By flicking the tail out, the Swede overcame the natural understeer of the nose-heavy Audi. He won five of the twelve rounds and was crowned the 1984 World Champion. Mikkola and Roehrl also won a round, which was enough to clinch the constructor’s trophy.

MAZDA MX5 NA

The Mazda MX5 NA was presented in Chicago on February 1989. Provided with an all-steel body shell and a light-weight aluminium hood, in Japan it was sold as Eunos Roadster.

MAZDA 787B

Back in 1991, Mazda became the first Japanese manufacturer to win the 24 hours of Le Mans, with the Mazda 787B. This Group C sports prototype weighed in at just 845kg and was capable of reaching top speeds of over 340 km/h, as well as producing 690bhp at 8000rpm, thanks to its Wankel rotary engine.

BMW M4 AKRAPOVIC

The M4’s engine brace, trunk lid and the roof are all made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) to shed pounds. But the real masterpiece for both is the CFRP driveshaft — a one-piece unit that offers exceptional strength while reducing rotating mass, resulting in a tighter drive with less counteractive momentum. The Evolution performance exhaust system for the BMW consists of a single-central muffler with valves and bigger link pipe tubes with a middle muffler, all designed to make the performance and workmanship of the Evolution as perfect as its looks. In-depth engineering has produced a sound completely different from the stock system, giving a deep and sporty sound.

LAMBORGHINI GALLARDO SL Step3

What do you get if you unleash some dedicated tuners on the Gallardo engine? A bi-turbo highly modified engine that is capable of doing more than 850bhp on pump fuel and more than 1200bhp on race fuel and full turbo boost.

The chassis has also been tuned accordingly with stiffer springs and dampers all around. Nevertheless you better watch out when you decide to give full boost. The performance is simply out of this world and the car can spin all four tyres in curva grande at monza in 6th gear… Remember, you need to brake 1 to 2 km before every turn as it takes some space to slow down from ultrasonic speeds!

PORSCHE PACK #3 CAR: PORSCHE 911 RSR 2017

Available as a free update for the PORSCHE PACK 3 DLC, the 2017 Le Mans and WEC racing machine produces around 510bhp at 8000rpm. This brand new Porsche GTE/GTLM racecar has been designed from scratch, and features an ultra-modern, flat-six engine positioned in front of the rear axle.

HIGHLANDS LAYOUTS

The perfect track doesn’t exist. That’s why we created one.

Highlands – The original layout, 8152 meters long, filled with fast flowing path with curves and several jumps.

Highlands Long – An extension of the original layout, 12191 meters long and has all the characteristics of the original layout. This layout features some slower curves, a fast series of left and right turns, after a passage between rocks and the distinctive 3km long “Cabhag straight”

Highlands Drift – A configuration born to create long powerslides with supercars and hypercars. At 5167 meters long, this layout features long, flat and smooth curves, perfect for holding a constant power slide. The “tower lùb”, guards the surroundings at the top of the hill.

Highlands Short – The shortest configuration, only 1714 meters, but based entirely inside the city. Incredibly intense and requires the concentration of a pro.

All four layouts share the same starting positions and pit lane, as well as the first corner and final 2 corners.

UPGRADED PHYSICS ENGINE

* Updated minimum pressures and optimum pressures for various cars.
* New v10 tyre wear algorithms more sensitive to load for all cars.
* Graining is now reducing when driving in good temperature conditions.

I feel like I'm talking to myself in here at the moment - has interest in AC really dropped off to zero, even with the big update released yesterday? Anyway, here goes.

I didn't get a chance to examine the new features in detail but did manage a few laps on the Highlands Long track yesterday evening before going out for the night. And I was quite disappointed really. It's just so fucking bland. There's no real excuse for this with a scratch-built fantasy track, but Kunos seem to have applied very little imagination when designing this one. It felt like a mediocre community mod from a first-time modder, like one of the many I downloaded when I used to play AC on my laptop.

I don't really have a problem with the overall layout because I tend to like wide, fast, free-flowing tracks, but this one felt a little like Black Cat County with green fields instead of desert wasteland, which rather left me wondering what the point of it all was. After their bold boasts about creating the 'perfect track' I was expecting an awful lot more, but instead was met with a long list of missed opportunities.

The Scottish setting presented a blank canvas for huge elevation changes along winding mountain roads, tunnels cut through hills, viaducts, bridges, wind farms, hydroelectric dams, deep forests, historical ruins, tiny villages.... Instead we get a town at the start/finish line and a small ruined tower surrounded by miles and miles of hardly anything at all apart from a loch and a smattering of grotesque promotional banners and advertising billboards. Any anyone complaining about the badly-rendered distant mountains in GT Sport need to look at the ones here and thank their lucky stars.

I dunno. It all felt a bit rushed and half-assed to me. I know first hand that there are better designed, more interesting, more rewarding community tracks than this one available in the PC version - why not save time, money and effort by porting some of those over to consoles instead?

I realise this might sound disingenuous about a free track, but can't help feeling it could have been much, much more with just a little more thought.

Yeah, it's a boring and dull track. I drove two laps with the Audi Quattro S1 it came along with on PC and never touched it again.

I tried it last night and I don't care for Highlands Short or Highlands Drift at all. That's Driveclub territory. Highlands and Highlands Long are great though. It's easy to get a groove on them so it feels more natural to me.

But then I crashed in to a railing at 30mph or so and a couple of meters later the car shot across the other side of the track. Seriously? Railings aren't designed to do that to the occupants of vehicles.

Unfortunately for me the control system is still rubbish prohibiting the use of most vehicles in the game so I don't play anywhere near as much as I'd like to.

The problem is, big update, no pro support still..I mean come on...the devs have to get the memo....Even a basic update with 1800p checkerboarding, better AA and AF would do.

The new Assetto Corsa AI from the last PC update is a huuuge step up judging by the 3 short races I just had.

Adds an aggressiveness slider that actually works.
Been overtaken 3 times in the first 3 laps until I got a feeling for the car and gained 2 places overall in 10 laps with the Audi TT Cup. One yellow flag on the 2nd lap from a crash 3 cars in front of me. Hope it makes it to console soon as well.

[not big on the cars from the Ready to Race DLC personally (so far) though]

The update is quite impressive, as I thought I would, I love the custom championship creator, quite why every sim doesn't have this is beyond me (it's not perfect though, it's a little uninitiative and unwieldy to use)

Tyre physics are a good improvement, especially when using a controller, looking forward to future patches.

Yep, the championship creator is pretty nice, it should be as you say mandatory, in every sim. By the way, specially for Mascot :), the Season Pass is in sale in the PSN (-60%, 11,99€ here, EU Store). I'm grabbing it.

Thanks very much (and to Dan via PM)..!

It's £9.99 here in the UK. Bought!

Oddly, when in-game, selecting any track or car from the season pass takes me back to the PSN Store, where I then get informed I have already purchased that item. It doesn't do this every single time I select a pass item, does it?

Also, my PSN wallet was showing zero funds prior to the purchase, which means Sony have stiffed me out of around £25 which i had in there. Do funds expire? I had to buy the season pass with a credit card.

The PSN Store had to update when i went to buy the season pass this morning (and did so successfully before i tried to buy anything), so I'm hoping it's a temporary glitch.

Edit: after further investigation it seems like Sony emptied my wallet last week and took additional funds from my credit card to auto-renew PS+ at full price, even though it was set to NOT auto-renew. Does this get reset during system updates or something? Fuckers.

Wit pleasure, I was also waiting for a sale and I remembered your post here. With Assetto Corsa Season Pass you need to buy each pack individually, they should show as "free" after buying the pass, at least that was my case (not appearing as "already bought". And the issue with PSN funds and autorenewal is weird as fuck, I hope you solve it, I always the autorenewal option in the web store after subscribing for another PS+ year.

My only thought is that autorenewal might have reset when I bought my Pro, but I just logged in as normal and didn't change any settings. I don't really think I can be bothered with the nightmare of dealing with Playstation customer support about it. If we had LiveChat with them like in the US then maybe.

Tried the 911 RSR 2017 around RBR last night and liked it a lot. I should be able to get decent value out of this pass.

Still can't believe how crappy the Highlands circuit is after Kunos hyping it as the 'perfect track'. Bannochbrae in pCARS is ten times better and shows a LOT more imagination.

Thanks to you, I checked my settings and I had it ON too, just checked it few months ago that it's off, when my friend had auto-renew unintentionally too. What the fuck.

Has anyone noticed a drop in overall frame-rate on PS Pro with the recent update? I thought I was imagining it until a friend mentioned the same. It's particularly bad on Zandvoort. Like pre-Boost Mode bad.

Sorry, full grid of 16 cars. I know a lot of people just hot lap on an empty track in AC.
Haven't tested it with just me on track.

I've noticed the performance is worse with AI than without post patch, I wonder if they've done something with the AI, maybe related to the new tyre physics?

I don't play much with the AI, because it's rubbish, and the latest patch has made they really slow, hopefully the 1.15 update with the latest PC AI will improve things.

On a different note, online is now rubbish since the addition of custom servers, which don't really work very well either.

Aye, it could be the new tyre model I guess. It's a shame because it ran pretty flawlessly before and to be honest, I was already happy with the tyres..!

I wonder if DF or NX Gamer could run a quick post-patch analysis?

The new tyres are quite a big improvement IMO, but yeah, hopefully they'll do something about it in the future.
