September 22nd is being chucked around as the release date for Project CARS 2. I thought I'd put this in the Assetto Corsa thread to see if Dan takes the bait.

I've been doing extensive testing and am now utterly convinced that the recent v1.14 update has right royally fucked up the PS4 frame rate, on the Pro at least. Boost mode is still definitely active but what looked like a pretty flawless 60fps before (with a full grid of AI) now seems to mainly fluctuate between 30fps and 45fps with some very odd frame pacing. It seems to get up near 60fps again when the field thins out or when the track is empty, but it's definitely taken a massive overall hit over previous performance.

There doesn't seem to be much of a fuss about this or any acknowledgement from Kunos, maybe because people tend to avoid the shoddy AI and mainly use AC as a hot-lapper where performance is possibly still OK.

Maybe things will kick off when the Xbone patch lands and more people are exposed to it.

Anyway, this game is dead to me now until Kunos fix it. I've got absolutely no intention of putting up with this when the game performed superbly prior to this update. Thank fuck I didn't spunk the full £25 on the season pass and have only wasted a tenner.

NX Gamer/Digital Foundry, if you're listening - any chance of an updated analysis following your original Boost Mode praise?

**** E D I T ****

Scratch all that..! A friend suggested performing a database rebuild on the hard drive and the game seems back to normal now!

As you were.

I still think there's been a small performance hit since the last patch, but at the moment I'm just happy to have the game in a playable state again.

I am more perturbed by the changes in AI, it seems really bad since the last update, not only are they slower, but the spread of times throughout the field is huge, leading to a (usually) spread out field, and 1st place does it's "FM6 before the patch" trick of getting a huge lead at the start of the race, like 30s quicker than everyone else, and staying there.

Hopefully we'll get the PC's improved AI at some point soon.

Yeah, I noticed this too, and also thought of FM legacy. The previous 'pack racing' was great, but now it's a fight for second. PC players seem to love the new AI so hopefully Kunos will get that to consoles ASAP, which in Kunos terms probably means 'this year', sadly.

I wish they'd port some of the better fantasy track mods to console too.

BTW, I tried the Evora for the first time at the weekend (can't remember which one - GTC? GTE? GX?). Christ alive, what a car..!

The Ferrari DLC vote is open now.

http://www.assettocorsa.net/ferrari-70th-anniversary-pack/#wpcf7-f7151-p7146-o1

Looking at some comments on another forum, the 575 GTC, 333 SP and most of all the 512 M (to give the Porsche 917/30 a something to race against, but honestly, that's like saying a Formula 2 car is a competitor against a Formula 1 car).

I wanted something historic so I voted for the 1969 312 P.

The picks locked down by Kunos and Ferrari are:
  • 1962 250 GTO
  • 1967 330 P/4
  • 1967 312/67
  • 1984 288 GTO
  • 2004 F2004
  • 2017 812 Superfast

Edit: Poll SHOULD not have been live yet, taken down/protected. [Rumor: Official voting starts June 30th]

No idea, but you are going to LOVE the new AI when it comes to consoles. They can put up a really good fight now.

I would say IF, rather than when, the fact that the XBO version STILL hasn't got the 1.14 patch makes me feel a little uneasy about future console patches.

I feel like I asked this before but seeing how it's on sale during the ultimate game sale, how is the controller support in this game? I'm not expecting Forza levels but please tell me it's better than Project Cars which was unplayable on a controller for me.

It's very good, but gets even better with 1.14 tyre physics, which the XBO hasn't got yet.

Haha Xbox version finally got the update.... very nice

When the Facebook notification popped up i didn't read it properly and just assumed it was the AI update arriving on consoles. I think you are going to love it when it does land.

I've been having better races against the AI now (in the GT classes, naturally) than I do in Project CARS, whose AI in the GT classes always impressed me. In Assetto now they are aggressive (but not unfair), will chase you down relentlessly, defend their lines even in corners, duke it out with each other, and even fuck up realistically, spinning out on occasion or taking each other out on corners. It's brilliant. Best in a current sim in my experience, and night and day over the brain-dead parade bots that launched with the game.

Kunos deserve big kudos for this. It utterly transforms the single-player game.

Yea this is the 1.14 update, feels good, but the new AI sounds bad ass, looking forward to that hopefully it's not another six months.. ha

Does anyone know how to turn off the wonky rear view box on console version?

Some cars have, some don't, not the mirror but the in car window on windscreen that shows the rear view

So I've gotten in real deep with AC and the Formula Hybrid. Even tried a Sim Racing Shstem race last night on one of the dinky college formula cars.

Anybody have a clue if a 1050 ti will be able to run AC on an oculus rift?

Hallfuckingelujah , Patch 1.15 for consoles lands today

At last!

Looking forward to your impressions of the improved AI. Hopefully it's transferred in full from the PC version and isn't throttled by the weaker console CPUs, because it's pretty bloody fantastic. Not perfect (they can still bunch up behind slow cars on the racing line) but still the best I think I've raced against.

Fingers crossed, can't be any worse than the 1.14 AI!

Just read the patch notes and I can't wait to try custom controls. It could be a game-changer for me.

Please be good!

EDIT: It's up.

Apparently, it's not the same as the PC, the PC has sliders, and the console just has preset selections?, is that correct?

Edit : Might want to be careful, some reports of the patch erasing career and special event progress

The custom controls have helped massively. Being able to custom select gear changes, throttle and brake is a god-send. I'm still not 100% confident playing Assetto Corsa but the difference feels night-and-day right now.

Why so long to do this one simple thing, though?

Oh SHIT, the Ferrari Celebration Pack DLC is coming September 19 on Steam (no XB1 or PS4 date, sorry)! *-*

Same day as the FM7 Demo ...and pCARS 2 is shortly after on the 22nd. 3 days is not enough to enjoy all the Ferrari goodness.

AI is eminently better, I forgot just how well AC handles with the pad, if PC2 is half as good as AC is with a pad, it'll be 100 times better than PC1.

As a Forza and Gran Turismo fan, this game worth it on Xbox? (Playing with a controller) Any clue if it will get a Scorpio patch?

Depends how much you value a strong single player career, there is some single player content, but it's not GT or Forza, If you can pick it up cheap then I'd say yes, what is there is pretty exceptional in terms of simulation.

I've played this game more yesterday than I have since I owned it. This patch is amazing. Thank you.

I still think low speed steering could be better (the game always seems to want to use full lock) and low speed tyre physics seem really bad (on-track and I can do a 360 in gravel!) but it's a tremendous game now. I think those two issues are 100% related to each other, though.

However, I feel more than think to the point I've actually completed full races. Loving the old-school German Touring Cars the most. A 5 lapper at Spa with Alien AI and 100% Aggression is glorious. The game has sprung to life for me.

I'm really tempted because I want that 250 GTO.

I'm really tempted because I want that 250 GTO.

It's also the car that Stefano wanted in the game (for himself), he was bugging Marco for years I think... probably never really made business sense with not enough people wanting it, no planned car packs could fit in well or whatever. Or maybe the license for it is just more expensive than for other cars idk.

Anyway, since he wanted so much for so long, you can bet it'll be a very accurate representation in the game (it's also the only car in the trailer for a 7 car pack).

What's weird is that there's no track in pack and laserscanned Laguna Seca was supposed to be out this year for AC, but no rumors about car packs beyond the Ferrari pack now. *shrugs*

Thanks! I'll pick it up in a sale.

Yeah, it's been out on XB1, along with the Ready to Race DLC (best pack in the game to date, IMHO), since Tuesday.

There are still some niggling bugs, but between the custom championship functionality and v1.15 AI, AC on consoles is now a reasonably well-rounded package with, of course, the best driving dynamics around. I simply adore it.

ok thanks.

yep says Assetto Corsa has not been updated for a couple months, xbox does not show version numbers nor exact update dates.

it does have an update section where you can check for updates bt it says all up to date.

I am restarting xbox to see of it triggers it

edit... nope

is there something specific in game that would be different for me to see if the update date is wrong?

edit 2 ok I now see controls are in the in game menu, that's new patch correct?

my xbox must not be correct in update notifications

thanks!

I've been away from this game for some months, i really want to pick up the season pass but can't justify the full £25, its more than i paid for the base game!
Does it go on sale often?

Every 3-4 months, I think.
Bummer, thanks anyway, I'll keep an eye on the store.
On an unrelated note I'm surprised they still haven't patched the sound blaring from one speaker when you're in the menus, it's probably been 3-4 months since I last played this and it's still there.

So I picked up this game yesterday and Im enjoying it quite a bit even though Im only use a DS4 to control but I have a few questions.

-Are some of the races in the career basically impossible due to the car they give you? Im on the BMW E30 race in Novice Series 2 and this car is just too slow. Im running pretty clean laps, I dont have traction control on, and I can start nipping at the heels of 3rd but 1st place is literally 10 seconds faster each lap....and this is on Easy. Im still getting used to the controls but I dont see how I could possibly pick up 10 seconds in this car. The other cars are much faster vehicles, M coupes and E32 M3's.

-This might not be an issue with the game but Im getting a fair amount of popping in my surround sound speakers when the cars are at idle. Anybody else experience this?

-Anybody have any recommended settings for DS4 controls? Out of the box they are actually pretty decent but the slightest twitch at high speeds is a race ender on any of the faster cars.
