I really doubt its a dating sim. Its probably just going to be an attempt to reboot the series. It would be interesting if they were more ambitious with the story IMO.

Why would they reboot the series one game after that game that lets you save data to use in a future game?

I dunno. I think some RPGs really shine when they keep the story as just background. My favorite PS2 RPG, Romancing SaGa, does this to an awesome effect.

They could still use the data but even then that wouldn't stop them from trying a new idea if they think it would benefit the series.

They did take the casual mode from Awakening and put it into Etrian Odyssey IV, so I'm sure they pay attention to Nintendo.

Edit: Now we just need Radiant Historia 3DS from Atlus and we're set!
