Awesomenauts |OT| - 2D MOBA - [PC/XBLA/PSN] Now on PS4!

Speaking of which, am I blind or did Derpl go under the radar and get no changes?

Looks like it, yeah. I think his shields were part of the universal shield nerf in the last patch though (every shield which reduced damage got its effects cut in half), so it's not like he'e been completely unscathed as of late.

Oh boy, they really want me to never use Voltar ever again, huh? I remarked in my last post how they nerfed his economy based builds that let him gain crazy solar during the course of the match thanks to the decreased heal amounts on bots and now they've gone in and changed the only real thing he had left to fall back on? Ugh ugh, I still seriously disliked the addition of the charge heal mechanic (which amounted to another nerf effectively), I cant build solar with him, and now I cant even rely on drones to do my killing. The fact that he had a runaway economy build didn't really amount to much because his other skills never really gave him a huge increase in his overall ability.

Honestly whats the point of using Voltar anymore?

I hate the charge heal thing so much. I've gotten killed so many times because I thought I was charging up a knockback when actually I was just doing nothing but the effect is so hard to see in the heat of battle that I couldn't tell. I don't really know what the point of that addition was supposed to be.

But yeah, as a Voltar main, I've found his new niche in staying away from offense entirely and going with a healing/knockback oriented set. It sucks early game since I don't buy anything good until after I've got both vanilla abilities/solar gain/solar from healing, but once I've got both healing and healthbot knockback I'm a force to be reckoned with. I can play a mean defense when needed, and I've sat at a full-health turret and destroyed it right then and there with little trouble thanks to being able to push every threat away while keeping bots and teammates alive. Every ability I get after that is just icing on the cake.

Plus, it helps me deal with Ayla players, who are usually the bane of my existence since Voltar is so slow. Once I get knockback, they literally can't touch me (and are usually tricked into trying to kill me with rage mode, at which point I promptly throw them into my team's turret and taunt).

The downside of this set is that I generally upgrade drones last and use them solely as a bot-killing tool, so I'm easier to kill and have a hard time killing others. Because of this, I try to always stick with a (hopefully competent) teammate, but other than that it works great.

So I figured I would give it away here first instead of one of the other freebie threads. Since I backed the kickstarter, I've got a code for the "Digital G" Froggie skin, but I don't use him at all. I'm gonna give it away to the first person who gets the answer to this question:

How big is Really Really Big Man's kitchen?

Really Really Big.

The problem as I see it with Healing knockback is that you become a liability to every close range 'naut from that point on. If I have a Skolldir, Leon, or Froggy on my team then I effectively have to avoid healing them the moment they go for a Gank because doing so would more than likely help out the opponent that my team needs to kill. I'll experiment with Healbot Knockback in the interim but ... ugh. Something really needs to be done about the current state of Voltar.

Yeah, that is a bit of a problem. If I know someone's going for a kill I'll usually stop charging the knockback and place the healbot a little further back unless I'm about to die, but I've inadverdently helped their team escape death more than once. I still think the boon of pushing enemies away when you're demolishing their turrets greatly makes up for that flaw, though.

question: i remember hearing about awesomenauts attaching twin stick controller support to a DLC addition through kickstarter or something, but i'm looking now and it looks like it was patched into the base game. can you use a 360 controller in the base game now for that config, or do you need some dlc?

I tried using a PS3 controller the other day and it worked fine with the base game, so I assume it should work for a 360 controller too.

Has it been confirmed the PS4 version has 3 player-splitscreen? I dug playing this locally with friends on 360 but am afraid if this is the PC port then that feature won't be included.

3 player support is included in the PC version, so it should be in the PS4 version too.

Ted McPain and the Starstorm Expansion (really a Season Pass) launches on Thursday. Here's McPain's awesome theme music.

Yes its confirmed. I'm not sure about the Starstorm characters or cross buy though (my guess it's no on the later)

In case you didn't know Awesomenauts: Assembled is now on PS4 for 10bucks or $8 for PSN+ subscribers.

Also new 'Naut is coming.

I believe this is one of the Starstorm characters based on the concept art during the Kickstarter.

lol, just today I was thinking "I wonder when that Starstorm expansion comes out" and then check this topic and realize that it already did and I never bothered redeeming my Steam key because I forgot the Humble Bundle link.

Also, Froggy G is probably my least favorite character, so someone who doesn't have the Digital G skin and wants a code for it can PM me.

Ronimo stream for the new char. starting in 10 :
http://www.twitch.tv/ronimogames

Foxy! :O

She's got a combo bar underneath her health bar which increases the effectiveness of her attacks. Using any special move depletes a certain amount of combo points which you can replenish by attacking any monster with her normal attack.

She's got a double jump and melee attack as her basic attack. Her boots give her a quad jump.

First special move is a Dash attack, similar to Froggy's except she can't pass through multiple enemies and it knockbacks the opponent.

Second special move is a short ranged projectile that passes through multiple enemies and does respectable damage while increasing any additional damage taken for a certain amount of time.

Seems pretty fun all and all.

Also I wasn't paying attention at all to recent patches but in 2.2 ..
Voltar
-Main attack now automatically recharges

I can play Voltar again!

Just when I thought they were running dry with some new character types they throw this chick out, I'm probably gonna give her a test run once she drops into the main game, in terms of design she's solid but it's like a Sly Cooper character got thrown into the game. lol.

Its part of Starstorm expansion which is still in early access. We still haven't got Skree, Sentry X-58 and the mystery 5th Starstorm character yet.

If you have Starstorm and backed more than $30 during the Kickstarter you can give her a try out right now.

Just started playing on PS4.

How the hell am I supposed to counter the girl with the orb aura that hurts you while she is also super fast?

50% of my deaths in my dozen games are to people using this ability on me, it's enraging. Haven't had any other characters or abilities even kill be 10% as often.

Ayla's aura hurts her too and she does more damage when she's at low health, so fighting her is like a game of chicken. I can't really give you a solid way of dealing with her until I know which characters you play, but as a Skølldir main, I mostly just toss her behind me as soon as she charges in, which leaves her floating uselessly in the corner for a few seconds while the aura chips away at her health and I wail on her with my fists.

I'm unlocking characters so fast I've only been playing each one once to try and go look at the new one. Her aura alone has made me debate deleting the game multiple times, but besides that I've been loving it even when I've had my ass kicked.

The point is just to make sure she gets away from you ASAP. Every character has a move capable of stopping her dead in her tracks, such as Froggy G's dash, Lonestar's Hyperbull, and even Voltar's heal pulse. The key is to start maining one character so that you can learn their ins and outs. Once you're familiar with your chosen character's two moves, Ayla is super easy to kill due to her low health and extremely limited options (seriously, the aura is her only viable move when she's not at low health). You just need to put some time into the game and figure out who you jive with.

Go here and see what you might be up against:

http://nautsbuilder.com/

It can list damage per second and anything else you'd want to know.

Novices die to her all the time. If its a team of novices, you're probably going to lose against Ayla (the orb girl). Once you understand her tricks it will be much more even. Keep in mind:

-All abilities (other than one basic attack) have some kind of cooldown period where they can't be used again. If Ayla uses her ball or evil eye (close range 1 shot projectile that does more damage based on how hurt Ayla is), she can't use the same ability again for a few seconds.
-the orb can give her a speedboost while its active (with upgrade)
-If you whole team is in the orb, scatter! She gets lifesteal (health back) based on the damage she does, which increases the more people are in there.
-the evil eye at maximum upgrade can do 96 damage when Ayla is at low health (25% normally, 45% with upgrades)

The way to kill Ayla is to do a lot of damage all at once, and prevent her from escaping. If you *almost* kill her, that sets her evil eye up for a very powerful attack, so make sure you finish the job.

Some characters have traps that can make this easier. Derpl has snares, Clunk has a bite that snares, Lonestar can push her into a wall, etc.

Burst (all at once) damage is key. Again, Derpl and Clunk are good - they can both do explosions for 50+ damage. Lonestar's dynamite can do 20x3 damage, and so on. Most characters have burst damage.

Ayla can be a pain indeed.

So far I'm still using my old fav Coco the most, followed by Gnaw who is also pretty cool.
Will eventually go 'random' all the time as I like something in each naut.

Oh yeah this too. So many players use her online and she's super annoying, relatively low skill and if she doesn't get shut down early will probably ruin your game. What's a good counter?

Right now my favorite character is either Froggy g (amazing kill streak music) or Leon who feels weak early on but can become super powerful if your team can claim some kills early

Spread out, you don't want 3 people next to eachother when she is raging, that will mean extra lifesteal for her and makes her even harder to kill, also, use burst damage.

And from the official forums f.e. :

Yuri with the +3 damage on base laser + time warp slow increase + time warp lifesteal laser + Baby Yeti, will out lifesteal even the most persistent Ayla. You just have to set it up properly, because her rage is more sustained than the burst you get from time warp.

Stick close to your team and Ayla is no match. Ayla players also have a tendency to keep chasing your character even if there is a high probability of death for her. She isn't used nearly a much in higher leagues and usually has one of the worst k/d ratios.

Is this game free on PS4 when i bought the PS3 version when that came out? Id like to play this again, but im not sure if i wanna pay for it again

Nope.

The PS4 version has 7 more characters and an extra level though compared to the PS3 version.

Would anyone with the PS4 version be willing to spend a few minutes showing me the basics? I'm brand new to the genre and I have no idea what character to pick or what skills to use.

I honestly think all the Awesomenauts are all fairly newbie friendly since the game was designed in a way that anyone can pick it up and play. Even if you pick the shitest combination of items you can still do well as the game is mostly skill based (not to be confused with the word abilities) as it takes its queues from Platformers. Unlike traditional MOBAs where you have to pick items to match opponents and suit your team, Awesomeanuts items system is done to suit your play-style.

If you want specific tips

* Try acouple matches in Practice Mode
* Test out the 'Nauts skills before going into battle.

Honestly i don't bother going into practice mode for new 'Nauts as its fairly easy to work out.

The Awesomenauts tutorial basically covers everything and in case you skipped it its in the options menu. It literally covers everything, give it a shot.

Cool, thanks. I like the upgraded triple jump of the cowboy guy. Does anyone have a good build order? Not sure of an efficient order of buying upgrades.

Found this one online and it looks pretty good.

With Sheriff Lonestar i usually go Speed first the max out Dynamite with triple sticks, bouncing TNT and extra TNT damage and completely ignore his gun and bull. I get just 1 bull for pushing, again its personal preference.

You may want a Sheriff that is a Bull build, balanced or a shooter build. There is not real wrong way to build a 'Naut, just build it to your play-style.
