Battlefront 3 footage leaked (LucasArts version by First Assault team)

If the licensee wanted them, yes, as LucasArts owns it all.

That said it's not overly easy to work with someone else's code without at least some guidance.

Is it still not better than to let it all go to waste and essentially coercing another team do it all from scratch?

The question is if anyone actually wants the Star Wars license and/or the existing games.

LucasArts has supposedly been shopping them around for a while now with no bites.

Basically using the Star Wars license costs a lot of money (on both an upfront and per unit basis), whereas using your own brands is free.

If you're going to invest a lot of money, it makes way more sense to do so with your own brand unless you think you can get vastly higher sales with Star Wars.

This is why most companies push original IPs these days and licensed games are way on the decline.

Even many people's favorite "licensed game" (Batman: Arkham series) isn't actually licensed, because Warner Bros both owns the IP and the studio, so they don't have any licensing fees.

I'd say that's good enough once you consider how well Battlefront sold. Or maybe Disney just doesn't give a shit.
 
You know what I'm surprised we haven't seen with the success of kickstarter? Company funded versions.

Why couldn't, say, Disney offer people a chance to buy into a game to see if there is enough interest to warrant a full release?

Be forthright and tell gamers you want to make X game, show off concept art, etc and then basically handle it like really long preorders? If the game falls through or doesn't get enough support, refund all of the customers money back (painful for them to do once it's in their grasp, but still).

This wouldn't work with small companies obviously (the ones that would actually use the money during development) but that is what kickstarter is for anyways, this concept would be slightly different.

They get full revenue from Battlefield. Why put DICE on a shared revenue game?

Because if this were to come to fruition it would probably take players away from the Battlefield franchise.

I'd leave the Battlefield franchise for a Battlefront because I'd rather play a Battlefield game set in the Star Wars universe(which is what this Battlefront would be) in lieu of a modern military setting.

EA/DICE would rather have a shared revenue with Disney then none at all because they have share holders to answer to. Getting revenue from both would be the most profitable position they could take honestly.

Danger Close isn't busy they could put them on it. ;)
 
In an alternate universe this game has been released and we would have enjoyed it.

Everything about that looked awesome. Anyone know if there were struggles during development of this game like the previous attempts, or is this solely Disney being a dick?

Unless... they secretly rehired them all and formed an black studio and are making a new Battlefront game in secret and occasionally, they'll leak material to see what the world thinks.

Star Wars Battlefront: Elite Squadron 2009

Lucasarts didn't develop these; Rebellion did. I worked on the latter. Which was - once upon a time - going to be Battlefront 3.

also, it's sad to see that there was another version of BF3 in development. I do hope we'll get to see some sort of spiritual succesor by a good developer.

If there was any justice in this world, we'd have KOTOR 3 by Bioware and Battlefront 3 by DICE...but we get Kinect Star Wars instead :(
