It doesn't feel like it make a lot of sense for VIIR. It's a game aimed at the nostalgia crowd and the new FF public, which plays on Playstation.

True then. Thanks for the pic (although I should have definitely googled this before!). But the question still remains: Is it really the nVidia logo what's on the back of the portable device of the NSwitch?

Interesting, it doesn't really look like the standard Nvidia logo although it still might be, maybe it's a variation of this?:

Cloud in Smash overrides the millions Square-Enix will lose by putting their game on the Switch. Makes sense to me.

Why would they lose them? It's even said FF7R is made for nostalgia crowd and new audience. It's only logical to seek for new audience on a platform series which didn't get the original. As for nostalgia crowd, many people who are nostalgic about PS1 and still actively play video games definitely can own multiple consoles or jump from one platform series to another.
But the new audience is on Playstation. Because that's where they will play Final Fantasy XV. Now, if FFXV get a port on Switch, it will be an entirely different situation, but right now it's not the case. Nintendo didn't get anything major that's Final Fantasy-related since the SNES.
That doesn't mean it doesn't have at least a portion of Final Fantasy audience. Starting with GCN/GBA era, all Nintendo consoles and handhelds (aside from Wii U if Smash doesn't count) got plenty of FF games. Sure, they were remakes, spin-offs or side series, but there are still plenty of titles.
With all classic Final Fantasy remakes, it even makes more sense to port FF7R on Switch rather than FF15 or FF14.
JRPG audience is mainly on Nintendo consoles, especially 3DS and they will Switch. I don't think Square will ignore this audience. If it's technical possible all FF games will be on Switch.

And they sold badly. Take the 3DS (since Wii U didn't have anything), it got exactly three FF games : Two Theatrythm (who barely sold more than 100k each in Japan and almost nothing in the west) and Explorers (again, not a commercial success).
What did the Wii had ? Some cheap Crystal Chronicles, made with the engine and assets from the gamecube game ?
Let's get back to reality. Square Enix don't care about Nintendo platformes when it comes to Final Fantasy. I see nothing to justify why it would change for FF7R.
The Switch is a portable and the PS4 isn't. The PS4 is selling subpar in Japan. Square is a smart company and if they can they will put it onto the Switch because it would easily outsell the PS4 version just on Japan being handheld dominant.
Because there are people like you who don't like to play with it split. But whether you've got a piece of plastic connecting them in the middle or not, the button inputs work the same.No it's not the same thing. One is Wii the other one is resembling a controller. If what you're saying was the case, why would the Grip even exist then?
If it's a game some people are even doubting can be done, seeing how well you can get one part going could help determine feasibility?Vena said:Uhhh... that's... not a common thing to do for a project that you are "considering"...
In fact, that's kind of a big deal.
If we expand our view to handhelds, there were a number of FF games on DS that were kind of a big deal.LordKano said:But the new audience is on Playstation. Well it's definitely not exclusive so whereever else SE decided to port it to will that exact same problemIt doesn't feel like it make a lot of sense for VIIR. It's a game aimed at the nostalgia crowd and the new FF public, which plays on Playstation.

Major Final Fantasy games ain't made for Japan only anymore.
Ouch. I forgot about this. So much for FF only being on PlayStation since that's where all the nostalgia is at lolThis would make more sense if an Xbox One port of FFXV didn't exist.

How can they be pointless when they allow you to play the console while docked lol. Pro controller will not come with the console.
Not really, the Vita and PS4 seems to be where most of the JRPGs are at.JRPG audience is mainly on Nintendo consoles, especially 3DS and they will Switch. I don't think Square will ignore this audience. If it's technical possible all FF games will be on Switch.

Change of topic or maybe something that has been discussed before, would people be willing to accept like 3DS level graphics/assets on the Switch if the game itself costs less? Like there are some companies that stuck with the 3DS (and guess mobile can be included here too) because it was cheaper to develop for so if they kept similar budgets and just had like a better resolution would you buy at 30/40 bucks?

Lol at Square Enix losing money if they put FF7 remake on switch
It'll make them a ton more, I imagine homer going "you just lost a customer" to moe as people who will be hurt by that decision
For the record I don't think Switch will see any FF games but I also don't think they would bomb or anything.

The DS had two million selling FF remakes and FF Explorers sold much better in Japan than World of FF will.
And? Does Square not care about the dominant market in Japan now? If FFVIIR is capable of running on the Switch I expect to see it.
Just like DQXI is coming to the Switch and not just the PS4. (This is a different situation of course).
This would make more sense if an Xbox One port of FFXV didn't exist.
Switch owners won't have any nostalgia for the game/series. Apparently nobody who owns a Switch ever played the original.Short of the hypothetical FFVII remake port being a visual/functional catastrophe, why wouldn't one of the most highly anticipated games, one of gaming's mythical unicorns for years now, sell well on the Switch? Offer a bundle with the Smash Cloud amiibo and watch it print moolah.

3DS level graphics and assets are pretty bomb.
I think the major argument against FFXV is that they recently came out and said it would take a year to port it to PC, which likely means just as much time (and money) to port it to Switch. So it might sell decently, but it might not sell enough to have porting make sense.
Ya never know though!
EDIT:
Wait, FFVIIR? Yeah that should make it onto Switch barring any contract shenanigans with Sony since it's a UE4 game and should be a straightforward port.
I still can't understand this comment about one year of work to port to PC... Aren't PS4 and One the same architecture as PCs? does it perhaps mean they would just one trainee on the port?
FFVIIR would take a tremendous effort to port to Switch. It's not at all a safe bet in terms of investment and the industry is more risk-averse than ever.
And the same rhetoric goes for a lot of other developers currently.

Tabata said that because he want to do a port that will take full advantage of the pc and not a straight basic port of the ps4/one version.I think the major argument against FFXV is that they recently came out and said it would take a year to port it to PC, which likely means just as much time (and money) to port it to Switch. Tabata said the studio would “work to provide a better version” of what coming to consoles.
The reason porting to PC would take so long is because they wanted to make it a technical showcase if they would port it. So, they are doing more than just porting, whereas the Switch would just be a port down from the Xbox One version (I think, probably not PS4). They should be able to do that a lot faster.
The features/specs and price of NX as well as details about the launch games will be unveiled this year.
I still can't understand this comment about one year of work to port to PC... Aren't PS4 and One the same architecture as PCs? does it perhaps mean they would just put one lonely trainee on the port?
Why? It's on probably the most scalable game engine there is, which is being supported by Switch.

Because downporting any game is still a huge investment of time and money regardless of UE4. Especially with a huge game like this.
I amazes me that a lot of people always seem to act like creating a port for a brand new platform is just a matter of pressing a button.
