That video is pretty awesome. I wasn't even remotely considering this game until this thread. The breadth of options in that video is pretty interesting (setting up fake characters, transforming into enemies, spells from staves, traps, etc). How vast is the breadth of options in the full game? Is there a lot more than that? That's the appealing part for me so far.Lakupo said:I second this! Pleeease? Pretty please with a cherry on top?
I really got into Shiren last year, and recorded a video of an in-game demo. There's like six demos, but they're mostly boring walks through towns... that one is crazy enough to more than make up for it though. Disclaimer: the game is usually not that crazy. Thankfully.
congrats. i hope to meet similar luck this weekend when i go out to hunt for my copy here in toronto.Mejilan said:Quoting myself from another thread, but I wound up walking into a GS today and snapping up the last (only?) copies of both of these games during my lunch break!

btw, does the game allow you to move the live map to the other screen?

in case it wasn't clearMejilan said:Sorry, I just finished up for the night.
I completed my first adventure, and made it... 12 floors in, I believe? I was level 10, when I died, and on the WFC Rankings for this month, squeaked in at 72nd place with ~176,000 points. Not too shabby for my first outing!
I was in a mountain cave, escorting a little girl looking for her folks for the past 3 or 4 floors, when I encountered a fire elemental/spirit type thing and what looked like a cannon-wielding pig-orc beastie. Thought to myself, "uh-oh, I better find a narrow corridor to fight them in", when the fire spirit killed the girl, leveled up, and split off another fire spirit! And, of course, just as I reached a corridor, the cannon guy lines up just right and blasts me for 20 damage, also blowing away some of the wall. Fire spirits surrounded me, and between the 3 of them, I didn't stand a chance.
The WFC rankings does add a nice competitive dimension to the whole thing. My only currently ranked adventure is under the name 'Shiren', but once I realized how many there were, I changed it to 'Mej Shiren' (it just barely fit!) So that will be my designation in future adventures.
Cheers folks, and g'night!

The Dungeon Revealed (a.k.a. Dungeon of Doom) for Macintosh.
Has anyone played this one? Man, I used to love playing this on my neighbor's Macintosh when I was a little kid. Is there any way to play this on PC?

(I think this is important - I can't verify the details of the rescue system yet)
You can also put friend codes in this topic, I guess, or boast about who you are on the rankings, and I'll add to the op. If I believe you.
jibblypop said:As someone that has never really gotten into an RPG other than Earthbound for SNES and the Paper Mario games, would i be able to play this? Or would you need to have gone through an RPG primer like final fantasy first?
The hype in this thread is getting to me but i've always avoided RPGs and don't really know how they work. So I would hate to buy this just to find out I have no idea what is happening..
any suggestions?

I just got a +15 +2 sword and dont wanna lose it!!!
Oh, I don't know. The ASCII graphics and dozens of keyboard commands would scare most folks off. He's better off just jumping straight into Shiren as long as he remembers he's going to die. A lot. That's what makes it fun!LordGek said:If you have the time you may want to train up with a free PC game like Nethack, perhaps, to get how hardcore roguelikes work

well i have done the rescue,i think it's pretty cool that you play the same dungeon of the person you are rescuing... considering he died on a monster house and that he also survived one of them which was particulary nasty,i'd say he's cool (unless he was using uber equipment that's it )Aeana said:Hey, that's a bit harsh. If you'll only stop playing Bulder's Gate 2, then you'll find time to finish these 8 fushigino games at least 8 times over!RevenantKioku said:But don't I have like 8 fushigino games that are unfinished? Yes I do.
BlueTsunami said:Gamestop dood looked at me crazy when I said "I'd like to get Shiren" and looked at his magical Gamestop PC and couldn't find the game listed . I ended up geting Phantom Hourglass instead.
I guess I'll order Shiren off of Amazon! On the positive side, my local Target had a bunch of Black Onyx DSs in stock
BrokenFiction said:You have to ask for "Mystery Dungeon". They didn't know what the heck "Shiren" was when I went in either.
