Binary Domain |OT| BUYING THIS GAME IS Not up for Nagoshiation

The dialogue is pretty racy

ESRB Entry

Content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes

Rating summary: This is a third-person shooter in which players are tasked with saving a futuristic Tokyo from a robotic threat. Players use rifles, machine guns, rocket launchers, and grenades to destroy waves of humanoid robots; the frenetic battles are highlighted by realistic gunfire, explosions, cries of pain, and splashes of blood. Cinematic cutscenes contain more intense acts of violence: a human-like cyborg (i.e., Hollow Child) tearing the skin from its face; a man pushing a burning cigarette into a character's eye (depicted off screen); a Hollow Child using a handgun to commit suicide (also off screen). During the course of the game, some characters make suggestive remarks (e.g., “[Y]ou know the only movies you watch are porn” and “You can get anything you want down here.”/ “. . . including crabs.”); one casino scene depicts a holographic pole dancer. The words “f**k,” “sh*t,” and “a*shole” can be heard in the dialogue.

Just sold a new copy to a kid and his dad at the store.

I did my part. And now I'm thinking, why is it rated M? It really shouldn't be.

Wut? It's definitely a M rated game. It's pretty violent, vulgar dialogue, and some pretty damn disturbing cutscenes. There is no way in hell the game would be rated T in any country.

Big Bo saying he recognized Lynn then Dan saying "But you only watch porn...Oh right the one with the hmmmm"

Had me laughing pretty hard

Who the fuck is Lynn? :p

damnit, I think someone here mention to play it in survivor difficulty and this is really hard, my progress is slow as hell, boss battles took many retries etc. I wish I choose normal instead.

Muddy like low contrast, or low resolution, or what? I kind of like the look of Y3 and Y4, clean and sterile but detailed with intricate props, and NPCs. I feel like it's a good approach when portraying Tokyo, which from my experience there I would describe as clean/sterile but with tons of stuff everywhere.

EDIT: Guess I should write something about Binary Domain. I really want to play this game, but can't justify buying it now. I wish Redbox had it, I bet it would do well against the scant (though generally high-quality) titles there.

As in they look like they are being rendered in a resolution that is quite a bit lower 1280x780. I don't know what resolution they are actually being rendered in, though.

Anyone else really impressed with the graphics? Particularly the character models.

I'm on chapter 4 now and so far, i'd say this ranks with the best action games this gen (Gears, RE5 etc.).

I am very impressed. There are definitely some rough spots, but they did a great job on the visuals for this game. I love the motion blur implementation, too.

BTW i just finished the "no mercy" difficulty and yeah the fate of the characters changes depends on how high the trust meter is with each squad mate.

wat? It's no more violent than Uncharted and you kill actual people in Uncharted. In Naughty Bear, a T rated game, you can convince people to commit suicide but it's okay because they're bears, so I don't see why two cutscenes where they don't even show it would be any different.

The closest thing to vulgar dialogue is the word 'porn'

Got the game yesterday and finished it in one sitting. Game was awesome.

Also invasion mode online is pretty fun. When are we getting the Yakuza characters for multiplayer?

Clearly you disagree, but every ratings board in the world seems to agree.

Which version has the best performance? On the first page, people mentioned the frame rate on the PS3 version was pretty bad. Is the 360 any better? What was the lead platform?

if you are familiar with TPS games then go with the Hard mode (survivor)
the voice recognition doesn't work 100% of the time but it was fun to me.

Going to have to restart with the PS3 version since i'm taking back the 360 version tomorrow (rental). Has anyone played the PS3 version online yet, specifically invasion mode?

I played invasion a few days ago on the PS3 with a friend and two Japanese players. It Played fine and the framerate seemed way more stable than the single player.

And for good reason. Game is M-rated through and through; the violence level is pretty high when it shows flesh and blood being ripped off metallic bodies, and obviously the cursing would put it squarely in "R" rated territory if this were a movie.

me and a few friends played some games of invasion the other night... good times! i love getting a surprise claymore kill after i'm dead and gone lol.

i finished the campaign last night. sato and nagoshi's team are so fucking good with the cutscenes!

their ability to present story in a way that actually makes people who usually don't care (me), sit there and just gush over it just astounds me.

i absolutely cannot wait to see the next yakuza game now. everything these guys do just has a level of special i can't put into words.

I found my headset, definetely gonna try it as well. Thank you for the answer.
but you really need to adjust the settings for the voice system before you start.
mine was:
noise setting = 55
calibrate score thresholds = 60
and of course you need to lower your TV sound
also you need to check the recognizable words list.

Myself and a few friends are looking for some more Binary Domain multiplayer buds. If anyone owns the PS3 version and wants to play some multiplayer matches please add us on PSN. The network is pretty much a wasteland. We are all players from the states. More than half of the community is foreign, mainly Japanese players. We are looking for some regulars who actually enjoy the network modes.

It's such a shame that more people aren't interested in this game. The single player alone is fantastic and now after playing the network modes for about 20 hours I realize it really is a well made, competent component to the game. I was a huge Gears of War 1 fan back in the day and put 100s of hours into that game. This is probably the first game in awhile where I get similar urges to hop on and play for hours.

What's really addicting about the multiplayer, for me anyway, is the Online Challenges. Normally you gain experience from making kills, but you can get bonus exp from completing these challenges. There are 100+ challenges to complete and all of them are tied to the weapons, items, and match types in the multiplayer modes. If you like multiplayer with perks and level ups then you will instantly get hooked on this shit. Also, the little achievement-like blip/noise the challenges makes when you complete makes it even more satisfying and rewarding.

There are 7 modes including team death match, free for all, and team survival. Most players seem to buzz around these modes, but there are a bunch of other objective based modes where you plant/diffuse bombs, etc. I'm sure these modes would be a lot of fun, but there are so little people playing this right now that the modes remain vacant.

There are multiple classes/load outs to choose from as well. Each class starts with certain weapon types and particular nanomachine setups. The nanomachines are similar to the ones you find in single player and you unlock more as you level up. You don't level up individual classes so you can pick/play any of them at any time with whatever nanomachine load out you prefer.

Another cool thing about the multiplayer is that you earn points during each round which can then be used to purchase temporary special weapons or grenades. These items are more powerful than your standard class load outs, but if you don't make use of them during that next round they are gone.

I'm game. Still finishing up the story mode though

It's certainly clunky in places but I'm actually enjoying it more than Gears.
The story is cool and there a ton of variety. The enemies are designed
So well they almost look too cool to destroy. I'm hoping for a squeal.

I wish the framerate was better, but you are absolutely right about the enemies. It just feels so good to bust the shit out of some robots. Very satisfying.

I just revisited the demo after a poor first impression, and I actually kind of love it now. It's going to be hard to maintain restraint in not buying the game yet, as there are a few other titles I really ought to get through first.

Man, the bosses in this game really rock. That's one thing Japanese game designers tend to be really good at, especially in action games. I fucking love the set pieces and variety in the game. I beat the Medusa in Chapter 5 earlier, and goddamn, it was so fun. I'm going to keep letting the good times roll!

Did anyone get the voice recognition to work accurately? I'll probably do another playthrough with it enabled, but right now it only detects simple words like "fire","charge", etc.

Same here. Other games could do with awesome boss battles like that one.

Even online the graphics are great. I love the character models
