this is true and people got very very pissed when a similar thing happened in Melbourne, Australia where a gay pub was granted the right to reject straight people entering. The government's reasoning was that heterosexuals were treating it as a zoo (lets go see some gay people!) and that as a gay bar it was culturally relevant to the homosexual community and thus needed protection from heterofication.
