Rockstar had 4 years between San Andreas and GTA4. Don't use that as an excuse when you cock up and bork every gameplay mechanic possible. If you cannot better you game in a FOUR YEAR TIME FRAME you deserve to be universally panned as a hack. I won't even get into GTAIVs horrid pacing, story and lack of anything to meaningfully engage the player. The game was a disaster on every front and an embarrassment to the medium.

Huh. And yet I loved it. Weird.

I honestly don't understand how any print gaming magazine can stay in business in 2012 without being able to secure a regular stream of exclusives. These people are aware that the Internet exists, right?

slow your roll, homes

if i wanted a racing sim, i'd buy a racing sim.

but I'm buying a crime drama game... driving should be easy or have the option to be easy.

controlling a horse in RDR isn't a fucking chore.

Given the amounts a things i've done with cars in GTA4 i know for sure it s not a Sim.
Now i had no problem EVER going where i wanted to go if you do use brakes..

I didn't really care for either TBoGT or TLAD.

If felt like they were begrudgingly putting stuff back in there.
The gameplay didn't feel like it had a soul to it or was that fun as a player.

I did like the story/concept of TLAD though.

I think it was more of a 'we know our engine a lot better now'. And can let loose a bit more. And from looking at GTAV the experiences they've had with the creation of the worlds in GTA:IV and RDR seem to have payed off nicely huge cityscapes and what looks like nice wilderness desert spaces something that RDR excelled in.

The risk would have been to overstretch themselves. It's like looking at GTAIII which was quite frankly barebones and as they finally became more comfortable with the engine we got San Andreas as R* knew the engine extremely well by then and could throw everything and the kitchen sink into the game just because they could.

There's a similar structure with the PS2 games.

GTA 3 is a miracle all things considered.
After that they quickly put out Vice City which was "GTA3 plus" as it didn't offer that much more.

But I remember reading a lot about how much they learned working on Manhunt and that the game was more or less a vehicle to try unproven concepts and improve their skills.

My only concern is they're going to improve the scope, etc. and not the mission structure.
That's one of my biggest gripes with TBoGT and TLAD. Felt very stale. "We've been here before".

They need to shake it up.

as long as the base driving is as good as gtaiv i don't care. i didn't take a single taxi because of how much i enjoyed driving.

My complaints about driving are basically:

- Sensitivity on the turn-radius
AND
- Congested nature of the streets

Mostly the latter.

It's like... Hey I get up to 60 MPH and then I run into a stop sign and my car stops immediately and throws me through the windshield, etc., etc.

Too much stuff completely stopped your car and impeded your progress that had no business doing so.

Just give me back my Cops and Robbers. Still some of the most fun I've had online this gen. A MP game is only as good as the group and we had 8-10 people every night piled into a few cars yelling and shooting at each other. It was so much fun to crash and ditch the car and try to get away at the last second.

Mmmm...yep, I love the driving. Car crashes are awesome too. It's crazy how much fun I had with the physics alone.

Protip: You need to go around it.

False. You need to jack a bus or a dumptruck and smash through them

edit - oh lol, I thought he was talking about traffic. Yeah, the oddly indestructible objects like signs and trees were pretty hilarious. Hopefully they add more destructibility in V.

If GTAV employs and expands upon the Euphoria engine used in RDR, then we are in for a treat. My main issue with Liberty City was the poor animations when shooting/slaughtering people, they got old fast.

Also, let's have more enterable interiors and customization options. Auto handling is already near perfect, and I like the idea of Los Santos being a large suburban sprawl like L.A.

See, my strategy was to avoid running into stop signs or anything else. Somehow I was able to succeed at this a lot of the time. The driving controls are actually extremely empowering. I was able to pull off drifts and 180 turns in GTA IV with a lot more aplomb than in the average racing game. Sim or arcade.

But GTA IV uses euphoria...

Any time I read that GTA V isn't coming this year it breaks my heart. It's my #1 want this generation. I've played through GTA IV something like 6 times, beat it on 360, PS3 and PC (no joke - I've lost count).

A May 2013 release date is almost 5 years after IV. It's a long time to wait for a GTA game. Here's the rough time that passes between titles: GTA 3 (~1 year) Vice City (~2 years) San Andreas (~3 & 1/2 years) GTA IV (4&1/2 to 5 years) GTA V.

GTA Advance, Chinatown, Liberty City Stories, Vice City Stories, Lost & Damned and the Ballad of Gay Tony were great and all to hold me over, but I'm a crackhead and I need moar! GTA games are of the highest quality so I understand they can't be yearly titles, however, I'm worried that at this rate whatever the next GTA is called (not DLC) it'll be 6 or 7 year wait.

If they do tweak the handeling for GTA 5 I hope they only do it on the consoles. Cars handled like a dream with kbam.

Car handling was perfect for me. Play something like SR3 and see how not to do driving. Every car feels like a tin can, with no skill needed to get the best from each car. It takes time to learn how each car handles in GTAIV but once you do it becomes a treat to outrun cops in each and every one.

Well, here's an info leak supposedly from a former R* employee, we all know how reliable these tend to be...

1. The protagonist will be one character, and one character alone. His name is (as some rumours said) Albert De Silva. He's a half hispanic man who was once part of a crime family in Vice City. He decided to settle down and have kids in Los Santos. He has one son called Kevin De Silva who is your stereotypical CoD player. He's lazy, useless and shouts racial abuse online and is really into FPS games. Kevin does admire his Dad though.

2. Multiplayer will hold 32 people on the Xbox and PS3. I wasn't told how many were able to be on the PC. Just like in RDR, players will be able to form Gangs. These gangs are not ranked through XP anymore, but via Reputation. Instead of gang hideouts, you can do jobs that range from robbing a launderette to breaking into a military base and stealing state-of-the-art weaponary. The Gang leader has much more control over his or her gang by being able to rank members of their gang and setting more specific objectives to specific members of their gang. Gangs can have their own terratory but this only applies to areas inside the city of Los Santos.

3. The map is about 5x as large as the GTA IV map and the City of Los Santos takes up just under half of this area (so it's a bit bigger than 2 GTA IV Liberty Cities).

The map is (like most GTAs) seperated into three different sections. 4. Planes are flyable, they range from World War 2 fighter planes to Private Jets.

5. Cars and guns are customisable to an extent, for example, you can cusomise a gun to have a supressor on it and you can install nitrous into cars.

Here's some stuff you might like:

1. The protagonist is the "rich guy" from the GTA V debut trailer. You get to learn more about this man in the second when he talks about his troubles. You only see the protagonist twice in the trailer. First time is the side of his face and second time is when he is driving a Deceptor (Audi R8). The people robbing the jewellery store are just with the protagonist. He is driving the van ready to get away.

2. Gunfights are more realistic. When you are shooting a gun out of a window of a car, depending on how fast it's going you will have troubles aiming due to shaking cameras.

3. The game is due in May 2013. A more specific date has not been decided because the game is still needing 6 months to be fully developed. They will have a playable demo at E3.

4. Police chases are now way more than either running or driving. Depending on how wanted you are, police may bring out riot shields and flash bangs. 5. When someone reaches 4 star wanted level, there will be a radio warning on some stations.

6. Radio stations now do traffic reports that are actually correct. So if you don't know what route to take, you can check the traffic reports on your phone or the radio. 7. The in-game TV now has many more channels

8.
The protagonist DOES NOT die unlike in the last two Rockstar games.

9. The underworld actually has a working economy that you can contribute too by buying and selling drugs, weapons and illegal cars in single player.

10. The protagonist can take drugs which will have some effects. But smoking weed on the streetwalk will lead to getting a one star wanted level.

11. Police cars will go after you if you're obviousely breaking the speed limit. Having high speed crashes will also damage your health.

Wanted levels:

1 star - police follow you on foot and try to make an arrest. No sirens, no car chases (unless you are speeding).

2 star - police will still attempt to make an arrest. If a weapon is drawn then the police will begin opening fire. Police will use stun guns if a weapon is not drawn.

3 star - Chases begin and the police don't care how they stop you, they just want to do it.

4 star - road traps, radio stations and much more hostile police.Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 24 in-game hours for someone matching your description.

5 star - shoot to kill, arrest only if it's made very possible. Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 48 in-game hours for someone matching your description. Few missions become unavailable if you are wanted.

6 star - military vehicles come after you. Even when you have evaded them, they will still search for 72 in-game hours for someone matching your description. Some missions become unavailable if you are wanted.

The dynamic radio stuff sounds cool, and not far out of the realm of possibility. The police stuff I could care less about.

I like the idea of the police being more of a complex opponent in the game as far as A.I. and tactics, but I could do without getting wanted stars for speeding only.
