Everyone should have a pet wolverine to dress up in fine suits.

I read the first Flintstones trade paperback. It reprints the first six issues of the book.

People are ranting about how clever the book is, and I can totally see it. It's a smart and funny (sometimes sad and poignant) revision of a classic cartoon.

The problem is the book seems like a series of riffs on issues and less the story of two families in a stone age world. I don't get much of a sense of any of these characters as more than props to give color to various anecdotes about hot-button topics like commercialism, religion, etc.

This is probably overthinking a fun comic book. But, given the hype, I expected more than just "Here is a divisive issue. Here is what Fred Flintstone thinks of divisive issue. Here is a new divisive issue..."

So far, the best bits in the book center around Dino and the Flintstones' animal tools and appliances.
I still need to pick that up.

For what it's worth, I liked King City.

Late, but I LOVED King City when I read it last year. It's really, really good! I prefer it to Multiple Warheads myself.

Hmmm, not sure I can trust these opinion tbh, these guys like this Mikenola stuff.

King City and Multiple Warheads

Stop trying to recommend unsuspecting folks porn ! Cheers for everyones opinions though, I didn't realise pretty much everyone in thread had read and loved King City haha I'll grab it and do a years late write-up at some point, though I'll probably finish up what I've started with Prophet first.

I like what I'm hearing with the Dark Matter. Big names + solid pricing is a good, logical place to start if you don't want these books cancelled in 6 issues, I just hope the teams stay consistent, feels like the whole draw would break if Lee drops off or starts doing half issues 3 months in. Creator first advertising is fucking great but the creators they've picked lol not always the best scheduling.

Lashley will be back in a month

What happened?

I'm really interested in what the full 20 creator line-up is by the end of the year. They clearly started with the ones that Snyder just did arcs with for a reason.

Edit: It's time.

So now when I go to cbr they can't even muster to finish the headline for any of their articles? They have to end each one in a cliffhanger to get clicks?

Hell no. Site removed from my bookmarks replaced by multiversity

Second volume of Shutter finally showed up today, think I'll start in on that series tonight. Flicking through the pages and Del Duca is legit, really cool looking stuff.

Finally started Dishonored 2 as well lol I've had it sitting since release and I'm only just getting round to it.

I started that game a few months back and never got around to finishing it. It was fun but I got distracted by other stuff and kinda forgot I owned it

Haha I've done that a bunch over the last year or so man, and it always really screws up my experience or impression of a game (I hate restarting and I hate picking up in the middle even more lol) so I figured I'd just wait til I knew I was definitely in the mood to play it and that nothing else would distract me. I literally have only had it all this time because it came with my slim, or I'd have held off on buying too. I love the Dishonored world though, really nice tone and feel.

Hah, we got it and 1 for free when we bought our Xbox One S. It was fun, but like you, I hate jumping back into the middle of a game when I've been away from it for awhile, so it will remain forever unfinished.

The Wild Storm #3: Holy shit, that opening sequence ! That SPOILER - panel transition - SPOILER on the third page! That action sequence in the base!* Why is the next issue 4 weeks away?!

Davis-Hunt is sooo good with switching between panel widths to go from conversation to wide screen action to close-ups for that slow-motion feel. Three issues and zero full-page or two-page spreads. What would usually be a single page spread is limited to just 2/3rds of the page. When we get our first full-pager/two-pager, it's going to be pretty damn effective.
Just three issues and I am already inclined to put him in my favourite artists list.

Three issues in and this already has two of my favorite opening sequences - this issue with
Jenny
and the first issue with
Zealot

Haha exactly. Deus Ex Mankind Divided is floating in that abyss with the Ogdru Jahad for me

Looking forward to this wildstorm stuff hitting trade (still waiting on Ya for that matter too) , I literally haven't saw one bad impression from folks after reading an issue or so. There's going to be other books too right?

My current comic bookcase set-up:

Will need to reorder so I have 4 full shelfs for comics when my next order comes in.

Edit: This will end up here sooner or later so:

Cho is a fucking disgrace at times like this. Blatantly sexualising a teen girl. Great job dude.

I don't get how his corporate work can be tactful and he seems to actively try to be gross in every other avenue.

Finally, Freeza.

This is only getting one printing too.

Looks great man. You know, I hadnt realised they put out the DC universe Rebirth thing as a trade, I just assumed it would be in the omnibus. I'll need to pick that up at some point.

This also reminds me my Image shelf is full as of today, going to have to split them over two shelves now. Horrible.

Just struck me, do you think this is Sparks or Quantum? Wonder what name they will use for this run. I am also sitting here googling everything on her research board.

Wonder why he picked Luke Cage for that cover...

This is why I have zero issues with Rucka not wanting him associated with his book.

Yeah, in the next few weeks I'll get the Shazam And The Monster Society Of Evil trade and the last 2 JSA omnibuses. Think I'll grab the Absolute Authority, Journey Into Mystery omnibus and the Kirby Fourth World one later this year. Also the next Johns' and Waid Flash new collections when they get to Sweden. Probably also some Image trades. And the Batgirl reprints. Fuck.

If Big Bang hold any more Rebirth signings I'll probably order a few signed trades as well(already got the first Suicide Squad one).

Think I'll have to move my Dragon Ball and JoJo collections...

Someone on tumblr speculated
it's a new Jenny. Maybe her last name is Media?

Yeah there's going to be three more. A Michael Cray/Deathblow book has been confirmed and the speculation for the other two are Zealot and WildCATS I believe.

I'm about 95% sure it's
Sparks. Have you turned up any leads from her board?

I'm guessing it's a deal like YA where Ellis will supervise, but he'll bring in other talent to actually do the books. He won't be the writer on those?

Just a few hints at possible other characters that might be introduced?

John Colt - Seems to be one of Spartan's aliases. Winter's father. - I also just found out from the Wiki that Winter was Zealot's son!

Voodoo has not shown to be directly connected to anything yet but Jenny has her in the Rogue CAT camp.

There's Lamplighter on the board - who was on Apollo/Midnighter's team. (Which I just read about yesterday so that was cool).

The Doctors are mentioned.

Also found this online with someone else transcribing the whole thing -

John Colt was
a Kherubim lord. That guy died somewhere around the time of Team One, his personality was transferred to the body of the spartan android as the basis for it's AI. He was later found to have survived and wasn't completely thrilled about this.

So the relationship between John Colt and Spartan is sort of like the one between Vision and Simon Williams.

Awesome, thanks!

What is the general order of the original books? Was Stormwatch/Authority essentially the end of the universe?

My current comic bookcase set-up:

I see you have that 3-volume Star Wars Encyclopedia set that is now terribly outdated. ;)

Cho is a fucking disgrace at times like this. Blatantly sexualising a teen girl. Great job dude.

Eh, Cho is being Cho. I don't think it's worth getting so offended over. If you think about it, Wasp isn't even a real person. I mean, shit. Why don't we just start prosecuting imagined crimes, too?

I don't get how his corporate work can be tactful and he seems to actively try to be gross in every other avenue.

Yes you do. Because you're giving him the exact reaction he's aiming for.

Finally, Freeza.

Wow. I was starting to think it wasn't going to happen. I wonder how many volumes Empowered is going to get before he finally calls it quits.

Forgotten that LA Festival of Books is this weekend. Might go tomorrow, but I don't see anything in particular on the schedule, so meh.

A couple years ago, I had to go to a couple talks there for a comic class (which was pretty damn cool lol), and one of them had Gene Luen Yang, who I got a autograph from later in the day. It was pretty awesome meeting him, especially when I had just went through Boxers & Saints for that class, which is a pretty great book.
