COMICS!!! |OT| April 2017 - Now Featuring Superstar Artist Brett Booth - APRIL FOALS!

Eh, Cho is being Cho. I don't think it's worth getting so offended over. If you think about it, Wasp isn't even a real person. I mean, shit. Why don't we just start prosecuting imagined crimes, too?

You laugh, but Sideshow Bob ain't wrong.

No you're not.

I'm just saying while what he did isn't tasteful, the guy isn't breaking any laws. You're getting offended over his illustration of a fictional character, ffs.

using an anime gif in a conversation where you act like it's not a big deal for an artist to sexualize teenage girls 👌👌

-_- 25 of my library holds arrived at once...

Only picked up half today so that, as I walk out of the library, I don't look like one of those spoiled kids who has one ice cream cone in each hand.

Damn, Boom makes some good quality HCs/Trades.

How good is that Dept. H HC. I love it. Jealous of House Of Penance, I've been meaning to get that for awhile, I just keep prioritising other things over it.

I just thought it was funny. I'm too busy watching Little Witch Academia to be hunting real witches.

Haw you, mybe your just sexualising the Witch hunt!

I just think people are too thin-skinned. Wait until you guys find out Greg Land has been tracing teenagers for some of his art. You'll want him burned at the stake.

lol, it's witch hunt time again, huh?

You really don't see why stuff like this is a problem? It's an industry long plagued by a complete disregard of women. He is taking a teenage character designed for kids to see themselves in and reducing her to little more than eye candy. It's so unbelievably tone def and at odds with everything her creators are trying to accomplish.

I'll agree with this but Cho gets off on the "outrage" though so that's part of the fun for him.

Exactly. I mean, in my initial post I said it wasn't tasteful, but at the same time this is the exact rise he wants to get out of people. So no one should be surprised that he does it.

I know what you're saying, and I don't disagree. But don't go telling me you think the industry is going to change now. At least not with Marvel and DC. They do this shit to cater to people, not because they really believe in it. Those companies are too entrenched in the old ways of thinking whereas companies like Boom and Image approach these things honestly.

The ol it's not gonna change so why bother trying. Bullshit. Marvel and DC have been making strides in trying to fix this shit. The fact that we even have a Wasp book is testament to that. This stuff just doesn't help other than to reinforce the old boys club mentality.

Does he still trace from porn?:p

He traces from everything under the sun, I would imagine.

I'd be curious to know how you would go about changing it as a person who isn't part of the industry.

Well yeah I agree but at the same time

this is why peoples eyes roll out of their head when he does shit like this whether people pay him to or not.

No one cares if he's breaking any laws. People like the shit they like to be the shit they like and they dislike mishandling of it. I don't always agree with the reasons, but I understand the overall idea.

We're on an entire forum based around praising or criticizing things that don't matter. You yourself have been seemingly angry and incensed over Marvel publishing strategies.

None of this matters, ffs.

EDIT: You don't care? I get you, Freeza. I don't really have feelings about it. But don't act like people are irrational and we're above it all for not caring.

Fair enough. I'm willing to drop it.

My current comic bookcase set-up:

Will need to reorder so I have 4 full shelfs for comics when my next order comes in.

Edit: This will end up here sooner or later so:

Very nice. I still need to get the Flash by Waid Vol. 1 and Flash by Johns Vol. 3. And it looks like you still need Flash by Morrison/Millar (unless you've read that already?). It's great, too, and has the same spine design.

I'd be curious to know how you would go about changing it as a person who isn't part of the industry.

By making your displeasure heard? We are fortunate to be in a situation now where the general audience has much greater access to the creators than ever before. Silence is going to be taken as acceptance or maybe even demand. For every dude who bunkers down like Cho, there will be other creators who see a group that does not like this. Maybe younger aspiring creators see this discussion and are able to make more informed choices. What does being dismissive or carrying a "too cool for school" attitude give us?

Then there's the aspect of voting with your money too but that's a whole another discussion of whether that signal even reaches the creators in the current publishing/distributing set up.

My store was all out of it last time I checked. Was planning on putting it in one of the omnibus orders.

It just seems to me like people often get very up-in-arms over things that are in the grand scheme, pretty minor. I know I'm guilty of it too at times, but there are much more serious things going on to get mad about.

And it's not like we don't know that Cho is doing these illustrations on purpose to get the very reaction out of people that he does.

It's worth noting that this is free speech working as intended. Cho does what he does, people react, and Cho is allowed to continue what he's doing or decide to stop. This is a good thing.

I think it's a bit juvenile, but I don't really have the energy to care anymore. I get why Messi and others have issues with it though.

I understand that. I have a different list of priorities myself, but I know that a bunch of those priorities are as low-level as this one. Folks can be mad about a bunch of different things.

I kind of want to check Klaus out too, haven't read any Morrison since Batman Inc. Not even Nameless.

Ooo that would be a good choice :O

It's Morrison v Fairy Tales. Really good and different from pretty much everything else he's done.

Meh if Cho least doesn't rely on tracing, than nah. Greg Land is quite something, least a few years back. Has he gotten better in recent years, or he is still same old?

He's a better version of trace-Land imho but not as good as classic-Land

What is the basis for the assumption that the character Cho drew is Nadia? Honest question.

I know the issue he did the drawing on is about Nadia, but it's a fan commission, and that's a brand new character created during a period when Cho hasn't been working for Marvel. Cho may not even know Nadia exists, or anything details about her if he does.

I don't know a lot about Janet's costume history, other than the fact that she's had a lot of looks, but I do know that Nadia is a brand new character that's only ever had one costume that I've ever seen, and the costume Cho drew is not Nadia's costume.

So if that is Nadia, she either has a second costume I've never seen, or Cho made up a new one.

To be honest I'd be surprised if Cho didn't stay current on the industry he works in.

Yea I've just been having a bit of a read up, I had no real idea about this, not sure what I thought it was before. It sounds pretty great! Is there going to be more or it more of a one volume with a point thing?

A lot of creators don't have time to stay current on things. They research what they specifically need to, but I don't really think that Wasp book is something you can assume people who don't need to know are up on. That's a very minor book from a publisher that puts out so many books per month that they're criticized for hurting the industry.

I don't know what the answer is. I know that's not Nadia's costume, but I don't know what to assume based on that.

It's very clear to me that cho is very well versed in comics, new and old. He knows not to pull that gross shit on Harley variants. They are all respectful and in line with the issue contents usually.
