Man, the directional sound in this game is seriously cool. When Ayumi started telling the Ghost story in the beginning if you are wearing headphones it sounds like she's talking right into your ear. You can practically feel her breath on your ear it's so realistic.

Played up until the first actual save spot and took a break to grab a snack. I like what I have seen (and heard) so far.

Oh wow it has directional sound? This could be awesome, I still don't know why there are not that many handheld game take advantage of this.

Is the directional sound as good as virtual barber on youtube?

Already played through Chapter 1 via that fan-translated PC demo, but it was neat seeing and hearing everything through the PSP.

Ending's still as much of a powerful downer as ever. Poor Seiko...

Dammit, I really wished it would have released earlier in the day, that way I'd be playing it right now. I even got new noise canceling headphones just for the game. Will get tomorrow.

This is the first PSP game I've bought off of PSN in a year lol I couldn't resist, though. With Dissidia 012 & Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep just $9.99 at Best Buy, I ended up buying 3 games for my PSP this week.

That hasn't happened in a long time :p

I played until the chalkboard message and I know that I'm heading down to a death end eventually since I've been looking around and checking things twice or more, which has been interesting in seeing what changes occur. I really like the music and the backgrounds but I'm not really feeling the same way about the character sprites.

The OP says that the vocal track is recorded in binaural audio so it should be similar.

And almost nothing takes advantage of this, not even looking at games specifically. Because it's a rather impractical method of recording by using two microphones and a mockup of a human head.

I ended up buying a memory card at a local place after work for pretty expensive (compared to online) because I have no patience...

I was playing this before bed, lights off with headphones. I got way more time in than I planned to. It was very unnerving and I found myself genuinely scared. I remember when people discussed whether it was possible to have a horror game on a handheld (I think it was about RE on 3DS). Well, so far I find this game to be pretty successful in being scary... and it's just sprites and still images. Though admittedly, I am pretty easily freaked out.

Actually, it sounds like you're doing exactly what you should be. The first chapter kind of insists that you explore the school VERY THOROUGHLY to get the good ending. If you miss certain things, you end up with one of the bad endings.

Hey wyrdwad, question about this game, does only one ending of a chapter let you proceed to the next chapter?

I'm on chapter 3 right now, really enjoying it a lot. The way these chapters end is something I expect out of a tv show lol.

I've been pretty terrible in buying games on release this year, but I bought my copy and have it installed on my Go.

I'm up doing some school work so I probably won't get to play until the night.

Now that I feel like I had an adequate break from gaming (ie: finishing Sonic Generations 3DS), it's time to get Corpse Party. Playing with headphones and in the dark.

Downloaded the moment I got home, woot. Looking forward to spending my Thanksgiving full of dread and anxiety, just like last year when I played 999. :)

Game looks sooo good, but I scare so easily. Can anyone tell me if this is similar to 999, with a focus more on story and nothing too scary?

So far, I find it way more scary than 999. But I scare easily too... In fact, I'm only awake right now because I made the mistake of playing a horror game in bed.

999 was very tense and unnerving, but there wasn't really horror in the sense that this game has.

Picked it up but I've been completely unable to install it on my Go. I've tried directly downloading it, using my PS3, using Media Go, and nothing works. I read something about it being a result of too many activation attempts, so I'm going to give it a few days and try it again.

999 = Suspense/Thriller
Corpse Party = Horror

I think this is probably way more in your face than 999 in terms of gore.

Sounds like I'm going to have to pass on it for now. I have absolutely no issue with scary movies, but give me a game centered around horror and I feel like I'm five again watching IT for the first time.

You don't need to fear, we all float down here.

What are the extra chapters?

I'm guessing they are to do with the name tags found in the other chapters, it said Ending Unattained (I think) on the first extra chapter so I'm guessing if I collect all the name tags I will unlock more of it? (I missed one name tag in chapter 1, I'm on chapter 2 now).

As said before by Tguy, does only one ending progress onto the next?

I doubt the ending I got in chapter 1 was 'good' lol, but I unlocked chapter 2 anyway.

All indications are that this was a quality pick for localization by XSEED. I know it must have been a big risk for a number of reasons but so far I am loving it and I hope that lots of people pick it up.

I'm going to do my part in talking this thing up, that's for sure.

I'm tempted to just wait and get it on the Vita, but I also feel like supporting releases like this is kind of important if I want to see more. I know that's a really dumb way to think about things but I can't help it. :(
Not dumb at all. I think with a release and a publisher like this, every sale counts. Bought my copy this morning, will probably play after Zelda.

Tguy and Prowler: Only one ending per chapter unlocks the next. Yes, that WAS actually the "good" ending to chapter 1. Welcome to Corpse Party. ;)

Prowler: The Extra Chapters are short vignettes about side characters, and actually have nothing to do with the name tags. To continue with Extra Chapter 1, you need to go into the bathroom and grab Chihaya's Pouch WITHOUT examining any of the stalls. Then, as you're leaving, once the ghost shows up, go back and talk to him.

If you open the stall door and get the "SHUT THE GODDAMNED DOOR!" line, you're unable to continue with Extra Chapter 1.

It'll make sense in context, trust me. ;)

Macstorm: That entire conversation is 100% accurate to the Japanese. And I'm quite proud of my translations there, I must say. ;)

Learning that this has binaural audio just bumped this from a passing interest to a must buy for me.

To quote myself from just a few replies back:

"That entire conversation is 100% accurate to the Japanese. And I'm quite proud of my translations there, I must say."

And I stand by that statement! It's a true quotable for the ages, no? ;)

Naomi = Misaka
Seiko = Kuroko

I nearly died at the dat ass line, well played XSEED xD

Also the game needs a skip text system, i'm going to destroy the X button :(

Was able to Day 1 it last night, but didn't get to play it until around 1:00 in the morning.

Loving it thus far. Was able to get the Good Ending with on Wrong Ends first try in Chapter 1. "SHUT THE GODDAMNED DOOR!" was both terrifying and hilarious at the same time.

Got my first Wrong End in Chapter 2.

Poor Seiku and Ms. Yui. I really liked Seiko and thought her voice acting and dialuoge were fantastic. If Ms Yui can die that quickly, anything can happen in here.

Hmm, I can't seem to get through Chapter 2 without getting a Wrong End.

After the girl freaks out and starts getting posessed or whatever, I leave the room and the ghost boy is directly ahead, and seemingly unavoidable. As soon as he touches me, it's buried alive time.

It also doesn't help that it's been about 10minutes since the last candle.

thank god for retro 2d graphic and sprites. I don't think I can play this game if it's 3D horror game like Silent Hill with a more realistic visual and atmosphere. it'd be a bit too intense for me I think.

I feel obligated to support localized Japanese adventure games and visual novels.
Me too. They just seem to have so much potential!

To be honest though, I do want to buy this but I want to hear some impressions first. Are people enjoying this game? It sounds like it for the most part but I would love to hear some opinions.

That whole conversation felt strangely out of place. Given the situation it seems like most people would have more important things than a dry a-hole to worry about.

I didn't even realize that was a common issue for people.

I'm strangely intrigued. The animu loli shit is a bit off-putting, but the premise sounds great. And apparently it's ACTUALLY scary?
