Cuphead |OT| 2 Cups 1 Screen

Got most of the way through the second island without realizing I can just hold the A button down to shoot......I was mashing it. Making the game harder for myself for no reason >.<

I suck. Made it to World 2, but this game does not fuck around. There are like three bosses you can challenge at the start of this world, and I can make it to the final phase for all of them, and then I basically die immediately. I guess I should just focus on one and keep at it until it's beaten.

That's right. Focus one one boss and stick with it until you beat it. Don't go from one boss to another.

World 2 is not rally that hard.

If it makes you feel any better one of my friends did the same mistake, too.

I have absolutely no idea why I thought I needed to do this. It doesn't make any sense lmao. At least the rest of the game may feel a bit easier? :D

P.S. - Absolutely loving the game and the difficulty. I would have been fine with it just being a boss rush mode, though I like how they implemented the upgrade system within the run-and-gun levels.

King Dice
was a nightmare for me. Finally beat him last night.

Tried the
Devil
many times before calling it a night. That second section after
you jump down that hole
is a nightmare especially after
the platform on the left falls down and the other enemies spawn.
I couldn't get past this section. Dying to try it again after work. Maybe I was just tired from playing all day.

Any tips or suggestions?
A good rule of thumb that I've found (and it applies here) is to focus fire any reinforcements. Killing all of the little demons and the bigger flying ones ASAP actually makes the 3rd section the easiest in my opinion. Spreadshot works well for most of the bosses, including this one.

I just have to say this is probably the best looking thing I've ever seen on a screen, period. Almost beat the second island and the difficulty is pretty much perfect
so far
. Audio work is top notch. GOTY pretty much. Only thing I struggle with is the best, most efficient way to map out the controls on gamepad. I have jump on A, shoot on X, but switched dash to RB & manual aim to LB and I claw the gamepad.

I'd be interested if people have found better alternative mappings. The only thing I changed was mapping shoot to the left trigger, after finding it easier for one of the bosses which benefited from simultaneous jumping and shooting.

I claw the gamepad to have instant quick access to A, X, and B with my pointer finger, and my middle finger rests on the right bumper to dash around. Probably a weird way to do it, but it's working.

watched a Review.
does this game mostly consist of bosses you can challange?
only a few Levels you have to beat, but no boss at the end?

Roundabout EX - High skill weapon (extension of the normal roundabout) that is a bit tough to predict, but can be used to clear a screen or deal continuous damage (and savagely powerful when combined skillfully with Super III).

How are you supposed to combine roundabout EX with a super when a super costs a full bar?

Man I just cannot beat the goddamn bird boss, Avian Trouble I think?, on hard mode to save my life. I beat the Devil on hard my first try, but I can't even get three quarters into the bird fight. The baby form is just brutal. Does anything really happen if you get 200%? Cause I'm uh....I'm about to give up at 160 some odd percent.

Yes that's exactly right. It's one of the best games I've played in years in terms of boss design. I got to the point where I dreaded the run and gun stages as the boss fights are easily the best part.

Just the achievement for beating it on Expert.

Not sure which boss to keep my head bumping into next, the Baroness isn't super hard per se but the humpty dumpty has some bullshit hitboxes on his splash even smoke bomb can't get out and the candy corn's pattern is hard to figure out.

Tried that birdhouse boss too but those bouncing eggshells are the death of me every time.

One thing to keep in mind is that, realistically, your thumb can only be pressing two buttons at once with any meaningful amount of dexterity, so only two buttons that need to be pressed a lot should be on the face buttons, and they should be aligned with however you can most feasibly press them. For me, this is Jump on A and Shoot on X.

EX Shot I have on Y, because it makes more sense for it to be on the top than on the right - and it's less-common of a button to hit in general, so it can also go on the face buttons.

The other functions - Weapon Switch, Lock and Dash - are all things that you'll realistically need to be hitting while both shooting and jumping. This means that they shouldn't be mapped to the face buttons where they could interfere with pressing them. Due to muscle memory from other games, I kept Lock on RB, but put Dash on LB, with Weapon Switch on LT. This also helps Dash better because LB takes less action to press than LT, and hitting Dash a frame earlier may save you - but hitting Weapon Switch a frame faster is unlikely to do so.

It seems to be working out pretty well for me, so far.

For the
Baroness: The Cupcake follows the exact same trajectory every time he shows up. Learn how he moves and he's a cakewalk. If the splashes are giving you fits, get to the mint platform.

For
Wally: Stay all the way against the left border of the screen. The egg shrapnel can't hit you there at all.

Cuphead and Mugman are such incredibly nice designs. So unique and recognizable - both very fitting for the time period they´re emulating, and also having a weirdly modern touch to them. The level of detail also really fits the size they´re shown - not too overburndened with unnecessary stuff, but also with a many nice little quirks in their animations.

Definitely an instant classic for me. I remember that my inital reaction was "a cup...head? Well, that´s pretty dumb", but now I´m really impressed with them.

I mean, this is saying nothing about the game yet, which is also brilliant (I have always loved the concept of short, mission-based boss rush games, and the difficulty and imaginative patterns is also right up my alley!), but these two have so much potential as characters.

This is also the first game in many, many years where I actually have the patience to say "Okay, maybe I will beat this boss in the next half hour, maybe not before the next week, but I will savour every attempt". I can´t even dedicate myself to Dark Souls titles anymore, but with this game I get this warm fuzzy feeling that my efforts will be worth it.

Ok i just came here to say I had read complaints that the "Egypt level" didn't fit with the artstyle of the game.
Some went as far as likening it to CG.

I just got to that boss.

Man, I wish I had bigger hands for an appropriate facepalm.
Devs went as far as including a Fleischer Rotograph homage and a lot of people didn't even recognize it.

Some tips for the
Casino bosses!

Thanks, I beat it and it helped to really start thinking about all these bosses with the smoke bomb. Dice himself was sorta easy, I just tanked like five hits and used the invincibility super, never really got a feel for the cards. Last phase of the Devil wound up being similar. But it's done now and while I really enjoyed it a ton, I think I'll take a break for the forseeable future! This game does take a bit out of you.

Well, at least someone got it!

I never caught this stuff about the pyramid looking CG. I got the rotoscope homage right off the hop, I'm sure a lot of people did.

I finally beat that FUCKING DRAGON!

Switched to the homing shot and took him out in just a few shots. That sense of sheer fucking relief, amazing!

Here´s a little sequence that reminds me of the rotating background in that level:
(at around 4 mins)

I will admit that I was initially a bit surprised at that bit in Cuphead as well, but then assumed that it was an effect that fit that time period, given how precisely they modeled everything after that era.

I'm colorblind and I can't recognize pink stuff on fly, so frustrating seeing that 0/3 parry stat at the end of a level and thinking "what was I supposed to parry"?
Damn 😭

Apart from that I'm loving the game

Beat it!

I'm cool with under 200 deaths. Genie and the ghost express were the ones I died the most on I believe (besides the devil, of course.)

Finished all of the non-airplane bosses on expert. Now I just need to do the bird, the mermaid and the robot.

One bug that's happened to me twice now; if you skip the credits, the game goes back to the title screen, but doesn't recognize any input, whether from a controller of a keyboard.

Least favorite boss has to go to
high seas hi-jinx

Overall I really didn't enjoy any of the airplane bosses and think the game would have been better without them. Don't really understand why they're in there when you can't use any of the weapons you've purchased.

How to tell if you beat levels through simple/regular??
I believe the color of the cup on the flag is a different color. I know expert turns the cup gold.

The last boss I need on expert is Wally Warbles...I am terrible at that beginning part. The eggs, haha! Any tips for this boss on expert?

Yeah, that's lower than many people who played it. Hope I can get under that when I get the game months from now.

I don't know if I'm going to finish the game, I'm almost in the last boss or the last one idk. But this is the first time that I'm not having fun, the whole roulette thing is tedious af... Oh well, such an awesome game, that part is the only bad thing so far.

Just finished the last achievement. "Perished and failed 776 times." Not sure when it changed to that from "died," but I guess it counts retries?

I had something like I think 214? If I didn't fuck around on Goopy Le Grande after clearing Isle 3 and just went for the final bosses I'd have hit that mark.

Ha it made me rewatch a lot of the classics- the popeye meets sinbad short has some nice sequences showing that off.

I even recognized the giant bird in it that they literally just put in cuphead as a boss lol

The desert background is almost exactly like something from popeye and ali babas fourty thieves...

Man, its just so great to see this eras style just brought back so astonishingly and have it be so well recieved.

I beat it last night, and it was marvelously rewarding. 577 deaths.

I turned off the game immediately, and I'm going to take a break for awhile.

However, I can't wait to watch 100% speed-runs of this game.

Noticed that as well. I didn't grow up with all that many Fleischer cartoons, but the ones I did see (like Popeye meets Sinbad, Dancing on the Moon, Christmas Comes but Once a Year) are referenced enough in this game that I get pretty nostalgic.

Hmm, there must be some filter you can use on PC for this maybe a Hue shift?
