It's so hard for me to not post near-softcore images in this thread too. Andy House is keeping a stern eye, but I know he wants me to.

If it was UK I would! I literally made an effort to buy the rest of the series I was missing earlier this year, so this would have been ideal.

What are you missing?

I believe all I'm missing now is DOA1 (PS1/Sat) and Paradise (PSP).

I don't have physicals of DOA5, 5U or LR, but not too bothered. Might pick each up on the cheap if I feel like it, but they would only be for physical collection's sake.

I managed to get the others I was missing a few months back when I picked up an OG Xbox and 360.

Well if you got DOA2U on Xbox, you should have DOA1 Saturn included :p

Yep! So I'm not too bothered about owning an actual PS1/Sat copy of it now - it'd just be for the collection to say I have it. Would still be cool to have, all the same.

I have a copy of the Saturn one somewhere in storage. If I come across it at some point in the near future, I'll let you know, and you can have it.

That's incredibly generous of you! Now I'll have to pick up a Saturn online haha. Thanks a lot. Obviously don't worry if you can't find it - the offer is much appreciated as it is :)

It's no problem. I used to hoard all sorts of old gaming stuff, but have realised over time that I don't even keep them at home anymore, let alone actually use them lol.

I'll let you know if I come across it.

Yeah, I wonder if I'll ever let my collecting part of me go at some point and have some sort of mid-life crisis and sell everything lol. At the moment, I keep almost everything, but I'm trying to decide if I should start shifting some of the bloat. And there's me thinking about looking for a Saturn now lol. Anyway, thanks XD

The PlayStation version of Dead or Alive is pretty different from the Saturn and Xbox versions, which are based on the original arcade release (though with flat 2D backgrounds instead of 3D polygonal ones).

The PlayStation version added Ayane and Bass, replaced all of the stages and music, used a different graphics engine, and had some gameplay changes. This version later got an arcade release as Dead or Alive ++.

Cool info, thanks! Is the Ultimate version (Xbox) based on the arcade release or PS1?

Yea, I used to have the PS1 copy as well back then. I really hated the changes to the graphics and the endless (and graphically bland) danger zones, as opposed to the ring of the arcade and Saturn version. It gave us Ayane though, so it's not all bad, and the new music was cool.

The Saturn (and by extension Xbox) version wasn't actually the same as the arcade either. The movesets for the characters mostly resemble those of the PlayStation version, which had more of a reliance on input strings when compared to the same characters on the arcade version. There were quite a few animation changes also, which were most obvious when comparing neutral standing animations.

I've always wanted an actual port of the Model 2 original to XBLA and PSN. Was really disappointed when DOAU1 turned out to be a port of the Saturn one.

I read that there were some gameplay changes with the Saturn version ages ago, but I could not remember what they were, exactly. Thanks.

I too wanted a port of the arcade version. Maybe someday...

++ had different stages and the designs were based off of DOA2 that came later.

I remember playing ++ about a few months later after I got my PS1 copy and wondered why this wasn't in the PS1 version lol.

It'll be some bollocks 10-second teaser with a "6" logo at the end.

In other news, Andy House is leaving Sony. Marie's mission is on track for completion.

RIP Andy House. Marie is definitely a triple agent at this point.

For NEC and DOA6, at best I'm expecting some playable build, at worst some official announcement that DOA6 is in dev.
No date or many details in both cases though.

I'll come by later. Might stop at some point to eat a bit though.

edit: actually might stay even less, forgot the NWC happened tonight

edit 2: got to update to 5.0, guess I'm skipping it for a while tonight, sorry :(

I missed the call, but I'll have time off from next weekend onwards for a couple of weeks, so can jump in then.

I can do tomorrow too actually, if people are around.
