Denmark-GAF | OT | Happiest Country in the World

Seeing as our neighbours have a thread, I say we should have one of our own. English-speakers are more than welcome in here as well but we also have moderator permission to communicate in Danish and if an offense happens do not hesitate to tell one of NeoGAF's moderators.

The OP here will be updated with events or other things occurring all over our little country of which is around 16,562.1 square miles with around 5.5 million people. The capital is Copenhagen which is part of Amager; an Island on Sjælland (Sealand), which is just one of numerous parts that also include Jylland (Jutland - the largest part), Fyn (Funen - in between Jutland and Sealand) and Bornholm. Denmark happens to own both Greenland and Faroe Islands as well.

In this thread you can meet up with other Danish gaffers or discuss what's going on all around the country with your fellow country-men.

Denmark is often called "the most happy country in the world" and one of those countries which appreciates a bottle of beer most. In a recent study, we have been placed on a 117th place of countries who are most friendly toward foreigners. Right now our most famous icons must be Michael Laudrup; coach of Swansea in the Premier League and players such as Daniel Agger (Liverpool), Bendtner (Juventus) and Christian Eriksen (Ajax). Models like Helena Christensen and Nina Agdal are most famous for their modelling, while Lykke May recently got on the frontpage of Playboy in a May 2012 issue. Film director Susanne Bier won an Oscar for 'In a Better World (2011)' while the Vikings of old is having much attention abroad with the Americanized TV-show Vikings.

If you are a tourist on Visit or planning to visit Denmark, a great place to start would be VisitCopenhagen.dk which keeps you updated with upcoming events and attractions - also follow their Facebook page. Of attractions we can mention The Little Mermaid, Tivoli, Field's (one of the largest malls in Scandinavia), Christiania, The Blue Planet and the walking street named Strøget.

PS: Feel free to change the tagline for the thread title.

To get this thread going I'm just gonna mention that I really enjoy Christiania and the way it has an open market for weed.

Will start substantiating his hate

Kashmir is out with new album, E.A.R., and Mew is working on their next. Good time to be a fan of Danish bands.

I love Mew. One of my favorite bands ever. Too bad it seems Jonas won't be going back to the guitar. Leading up to the release of No More Stories they released a few videos talking about their recording experience, it was kinda fun.

Truly deserves to shoot laserbeams from his eyes
Not Danish but my ancestors were! I even have a Danish surname so YAY.

Same here, do we count? I've been told I look Danish [or German], whatever that means. Tall, blonde and blue eyed I guess.

I'd love to visit my homeland one of these days. Although I have heard Copenhagen can be dirty? Not sure how true that is... :\

Best thing about Denmark is the "happy-porn" from the 70s :D

The Mazurka- and Zodiak-series are hilarious!

The Danish folks I know from GAF are abhorrent, mean-spirited loners. I love you all.

I hope to visit your wonderful land one of these days, even if it's less beautiful than Norway.

At least things are not as expensive in Denmark as it is in Norway. Still well above the average though.

I've heard Denmark has really good wages. Is this true? Like for example, what's the average pay for an engineer?

And I have always wanted to visit Legoland. :p

I work with a ton of Danes on base here in Greenland and I have to say, you guys seem like a happy people to me. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences talking to the Danes here.
And fuck...a woman who was here last summer with the team who was working at my site was so unbelievably hot. The nicest ass, long blond hair, tall, the cutest smile...just incredible.

I have the option to catch a free flight to Copenhagen for one of my vacations, so I have put some serious though into doing that next year.

And one of the bands I really like, The Nekromantix, are from Copenhagen.

You Danes are alright by me.

Not Danish but I live in Malmö so I have plenty of experience with you guys. :)
These days there seems to be a LOT of danes in Malmö. I should visit Copenhagen again soon. It's been all too long now. I need me some real Danish röd pölse. Swedish röd pölse sucks in comparison for some reason.

Well it have always been like that. After all, we are just one train ride away from Malmö.

Ungdomshuset & Christiania are two issues/particularities that can only happen in Denmark.

Danish problems. It could be a meme.

I dunno. This is something I've noticed more and more as time goes on. For example more and more Danes move into my apartment building, and it's the same at a lot of my friends buildings as well. There have always been many Danish visitors here though, of course. And I guess food is cheaper to buy here? Because if there's one place you'll run into Danes here it's at the new Emporia mall. Last time I was there it seemed that at least half of the people there were Danish. :D

It's purely because everything is cheaper in Sweden :p

Oh wow, I still haven't been to Emporia - I really want to see it. Maybe apply for a job there - but really I can't even get a normal retail job here in Copenhagen and I badly need one. =(

I know there's a lot of Danes moving to Sweden to marry their girlfriend because they can't do it here in Denmark.
