lol 260 broken PS4's out of the nearly 100,000+ PS4's that Amazon likely shipped? Amazon is ENORMOUS and the PS4 stock has been plentiful, they shipped a LOT of units.
Obviously 0 is better number than 260, but seriously that's still a pretty damn small percentage.
What 'sheer number'? It is only released in America right now! A lot of people will have it tucked away for Christmas. Not only that, but it may be a long term problem. Who is to say that any PS4 will last longer than a frickin' month?!
I will never understand people like you. All I want, is for my fellow gamers, and future gamers to be able to play their games and have fun.
'Oh, it's no big deal.'
'Ah, just exaggerated hyperbole by Xbox fanboys'
'Meh, to be expected at launch'
No, no, just no. Fucking wake up, please.
I have never had a faulty product from Amazon but have also never written positively when that's all I've had, positive experiences.
It works and that's my review.
The ratio is not the concern, but the amount of reported issues. Not every person that bought one left feedback, otherwise you would see a lot more positive or negative, and we know that people with issues tend to be more vocal, however, we don't normally see this many 1 start reviews in other products unless there's a real issue. So in short, this is a real issue from what we can tell. Luckily it showed up quickly and will likely get addressed before it blows up into something bigger.
I'll never understand people like you.
"The sky is falling"
"Nah, it's just rain."
There isn't remotely a big enough sample size or failure rate to make a definitive statement but some people are trying to push this as some major issue. I am definitely not saying there's no issues, but I think people are so burned by things like RRoD it's made them lose sight of reality for any electronic hardware and acceptable failure rates.
Bought from Amazon as well. PS4 was at the bottom of the box, with air bubble packaging only at the top. Played for about 6 hours with no issues whatsoever.
How many people are really stupid enough to not realize that the majority of people who will comment at all online are the ones who have issues, not the people who don't have them. Because the ones who don't are happy enjoying their system.
Remember, there were one million PS4s. 0.4% is still 40,000 units. We see hundred of people complaining online? Color me shocked, lol.
New system vs continuation of old line. Those numbers mean nothing, you'd need to compare to the launch PS3s.
A big if here. If it's a Rrod situation can Sony and the PlayStation survive? Sony are not in good financial state.

Those with working consoles are playing and not giving reviews.
Not to point blame, but something happened with Amazon and shippers - not sure which. This is a friend of mine's Amazon PS4.

None.
All electronics have a failure rate. People will receive faulty devices especially near launch.
As for the "high" amount of 1-star reviews, people who receive faulty consoles are much more likely to leave a review.

Read the last few pages of the thread for answers to most of what you wrote.
These numbers keep getting dragged out but "One million" ps4s have not been switched on and every person who has had issues has not written about it on line. Point is it's not typical to see this after 1 day. It's not a crysis by any means, but people are within their rights to be concerned.

As other people have said so many hardware failure complaints on amazon is not a regular occurrence, despite many devices having similarly low failure rates do not have as many complaints. The PS4 is not the first electronic device to be launched on amazon and it certainly won't we the last. Let us hope the issue is not widespread but it is certainly a cause for concern.

.Many people in this thread should go back to school and learn what the statistical significance is.
Even the boldest null hypothesis would put 0.4% failure rate to a LOL using the biased sample from amazon.
about it from the startThe fact that these consoles are DOA means it's very difficult to compare this to RROD.
RROD occurred as a result of a design flaw, but would often not happen until 6 to 12 months into the consoles use (sometimes longer), meaning it would have been more difficult for MS to detect.
Issues that cause a console to be DOA would have been apparent during initial testing, so you would assume it would be much easier for Sony to spot this problem and fix it if it were widespread.

Is that how you turn the thing on? Touch anywhere on the top of it?

Anyone else notice that the PS4 already has more negative reviews than the PS3? 89 1 star ratings for the PS3 and 277 1 star ratings for the PS4. Most of the 1 star ratings are from verified purchases as well.
I get that people who are happy are less likely to post a review than someone who is unhappy. However, it's hard to overlook the fact that PS4 in one day has earned 3 times as many 1 star ratings as the PS3 160gb core system. Somethings gotta be up.
It's funny how Sony fans are tabulating the exact number of complaints that they see and thinking that it's the actual number of broken systems.

No, amazon just allows anyone to write reviews even if they did not buy anything there.
I can go write a review for any product I want right now.
(Though I did write one for PS4 since I did get mine there, and mine is confirmed)
