Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (PSV) |OT| Play for 10 Million Hours!

What the hell. Virtually all games I've played stop at lvl 99. o_O
You know someone doesn't have knowledge about Disgaea when this surprises them. Hell, I'm almost surprised they din't try going higher so far! Though you don't need to exceed Level 100 to beat the games usually, 9999 is bonus content territory.

But yeah, it's absurd stuff like that that made it appealing to people back in 2003 and brought NIS to relevance outside of Japan. Before that all that came here was a musical RPG aimed at girls I believe.

Yep I know nothing. I've just seen trailers and stuff and always thought I must get round to trying one of the games.

I hope NIS does a Vita version of Disgaea 4. The Disgaea series is perfect for handhelds.

I hope so too. I don't see myself ever picking up a PS3 lol. Being able to grind AND watch tv is a great feeling.

Maybe we'll get a Disgaea 5 that releases simultaneously on the PS3/Vita.....

...I can only dream.

I was just thinking this when I played Disgaea 3 on PS3 today. I enjoy the series a lot more on the go to be honest. I don't own a Vita yet though, so I hope maybe 3DS gets some Disgaea love.

What are good specialists to go for? They've added a lot of them since Disgaea 1.

I read that you can't get Rank 39 items from the Item World until the Land of Carnage. Is that right?

B.K.

No, its rank 40 items that you can only get in the Land of Carnage.

So the Rank 39 item guide at Gamefaqs is wrong?

Q1: What are rank 39 items?

A1: Rank 39 items are some of the best items you can obtain in Disgaea 3. They
are only obtainable inside the Land of Carnage Item World, and there are
several methods for doing so. This guide will list a variety of methods you
can use to get the items you are looking for.

As someone who generally does not give a rats ass about sales, I've gotten a ton of enjoyment from my Vita, and there is alot coming within the next few months that has me excited, so I would not consider it a "Doorstop" personally.

Then again, I also bought a Dreamcast, and despite the sad end of that console I don't ever regret that purchase either for larely the same reasons. I'm glad I tend to stay out of sales-age, and performance heavy threads because then I probably would not be able to enjoy games anymore either.

I hate the X-Dimension levels. After I unlock the Land of Carnage, I'm never doing another one of them.

How do I beat Raspyberyl in chapter 1?
] Is there some secret to it or do I have to grind levels? And if so, where can I grind?

Have you tried upgrading your current weapons, or buying skills at the evilities shop? Should be easy to just ignore Almaz and go straight for the other three.

Lure the first two out- with the prinny maybe because he's zetta useless- and then kill Beryl.

But~ if you want to grind just go back to the prior stages. Not very good for grinding purposes but you could make a little money to buy better equipment.,

Nope, I thought it was still the tutorial so I went in expecting a simple fight. Haven't bought anything yet.

Yeah, all the tutorials will say tutorial, so 1-1, 1-2 and so on will be called that.

Id probably just pool the money up for some weapons for 1 or 3 of your guys. Your mage is also pretty useless against Beryl because of the fire attribute, so don't mind her so much.

Unlocked Land of Carnage last night. Time to do some pirating and hope I get a legendary Yoshitsuna and Arcadia.

We have that new absorb thing. People say that you can do it once for reincarnation... but is really once for reincarnation? Or it depends of your reencarnation "quality"? (up to 5 if you are "genious"?)

Is this supposed to go up on PSN(Europe) soon? I'm playing Tactics Ogre: LUCT at the moment and loving it and was looking forward to some handheld Disgaea 3 afterwards, but I'd like to have it digitally.

Letting anything related to sales color your enjoyment of a console or game is not wise. Yeah it stinks if a good product isn't selling well but it doesn't change what should fundamentally be a good experience.

And the Vita with Disgaea 3 is a fundamentally good experience. If you like SRPG's at all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The game works awesomely as a portable product and it looks better than it ever has before thanks to the Vita's sexy screen.

I bought it from PSN store (Spain) 10 days ago. Look it through Vita PSN Store.

I'm on Chapter 5 Mission 4 and I'm 18 hours in. But I'm going slow, enjoying the story and allowing all animations. I didn't made any kind of grind, yet. No item world (aside of the mandatory first visit) and only repeated one or two levels.

Most of the main missions are puzzle-like. With the correct tactic (some times related with geopanels and tower throw to reach the necessary geoblocks on the first turn) you don't need to grind at all.

Finally got a Legendary Yoshitsuna! Now, I need to find a Legendary Arcadia so I can get a Trapezohedron.

Has anyone gotten stuck after beating 2-1 'Childhood Memories'? I've got a buddy who said he's beaten the mission but no other missions are unlocking for him and it still shows childhood memories as the only selectable mission.

Any ideas? I don't think this happend to me but I also don't remember exactly what happend next.

Go talk to the Heart Bank archer lady for the next map. Also try to pay attention to the story :)

Yeah, the archer lady sends you to the heart bank, then you talk to the prinny who acts as the dimensional guide.

Oh right. But he said when he's talking to the prinny only 2-1 is coming up. No new missions even though he said he's already beaten it. He's already in the actual heart.

Huh, that's weird. Normally when you're done with the maps in the heart bank, the game automatically sends you back to the academy. I guess double-check that the map is cleared, and try talking to the NPCs.

How do Mystery Room battles work in the Item World?

After buying items from the vendors in the Mystery Room for some reason they decided to stop me from returning to the Item World and kicked my ass (level 200 and up characters, lol).

Do they randomly attack or did I screw up somehow?

Waiting for this to show up in the mail today. First Disgaea for me. How should I approach? Just do all the tutorial stuff? How quickly do you start picking up more characters? Should I grind early on?

Talking to (almost all) Mystery Room NPCs multiple times will initiate a battle. For rooms with multiple NPCs, it's speaking to a certain one of them multiple times.

Basically, you can pretty much fight any Mystery Room in the Item World so watch out on talking to them multiple times.

I'd say just do the Tutorials and story maps as they come; grind if you hit a wall that better equipment won't solve for you. Generally speaking, Disgaea doesn't give you a lot to work with in regards to fully explaining the mechanics but many of them are things you can get a decent grasp of after trying them out yourself.

As far as more (story) characters are concerned, you'll generally get at least one new one per Chapter for the first few chapters. You're free to just create your own characters as you wish, however.

If you want some more in-depth stuff on how many of the game mechanics work, feel free to ask :x I know an unhealthy amount about the game :/

The game gives you too many characters IMO. Focus on a small party to minimize grinding, and only grind if you need to. Later you'll get to maps where you can grind far more efficiently.

Good deal, thanks. How many characters do you use at a time, and do you choose a class for each one yourself, or are they pre-determined?

Story characters each have their own fixed, unique class. With generic characters, you can choose their class when you create one, and you can change their class by reincarnating.

I went through the story mainly with three story characters and one generic character, a healer. Also a bunch of useless fighters for throwing and to use as fodder.

For post-game purpose I guess? Assuming it's like PS3 version:

- Statisticians obviously for XP (you'll need hundreds of thousands of them, but don't try to farm item world for those, the puppy paw stick duplication method is the only viable one)

- Managers for mana (same, find some, duplicate with PPS)

- Professionals (need a 100+ for each weapon... you CAN go over 100, but it's useless since you'll already always get criticals each time)

- Mediater (need a SINGLE set of 100, to create dual-class specialists)

- Gladiators, physicians, tutors, coaches and marksmans for item levelling (you need 8 specialists of each, ANY LEVEL, so don't merge them! You'll put dual-class specialists in your weapons once at max level, so maxed out single-class specialists are useless... but dual-class specialists are useless for leveling-up the weapons)

- you'll want one 500 cane man in each staff, one 500 deadeye in each gun, one 500 fencer in each sword, one 500 eros in each bow, one 500 fist fighter in each glove, one 500 lancer in each lance, one 500 lumberjack in each axe, one 500 monster hunter in each monster weapon, so pick those according to your weapon choices

- you'll also want a 500 guardian in each weapon

That's pretty much all. Magichange lover can be useful, if you're MC, but except at the very end, MC is quite weak, and even at the end, I don't find it useful, but you may like it.

Hells farming is not a problem. You'll fill items with dual-class specialists (or statisticians/managers for level-up). And 100 Professional + 500 weapon specialist + 500 gardian in each weapon. Effects are pretty much useless since you'll 1HKO everything.

Some "special effect" specialists are fun, though, even if they're stuck in bad weapons. I like for example making counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter-counter between two characters with tennis rackets ^_^ But those are just for fun.

I read that you can't get Rank 39 items from the Item World until the Land of Carnage. Is that right?
I'm pretty sure that you cannot get 35+ (or 36+?) items outside of LoC in PS3 version. So yes, if it's the same in Vita...

So the Rank 39 item guide at Gamefaqs is wrong?

Oh um, no. I'm wrong. Sorry. I got confused thinking about how in order to get Rank 40, you need to steal it from the Item God at Floor 100 of a Rank 39 item in the Land of Carnage.

Good gravy, what did I get myself into. Bought this game in the middle of the night because I really dug the first Disgaea. Do I need to grind to play through the story?

You shouldn't have to. Maybe a few minutes training on an earlier map if you get stuck on a tough battle, but that should be enough in the story.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know whether the data on player numbers (under "Everyone's Data") is for your region, your country or worldwide? It seems awfully low (4404 at the minute, unless I'm reading it wrong). I'm in the UK if that helps. (Also the total play time gives an average of only 4.3 hrs per person and I've played for 44hrs, so some people must have only been on a few minutes! Did it release late on the PSN Store in UK?)

I could be being an idiot and reading it wrong, or is this normal for Disgaea titles?

No. The main story is pretty simple as long as you don't go insane with making new characters. Most of the stages are more like puzzles with Geoblocks anyways.

Hmm, that's strange. I'm in Canada and this is what I get.

I've just been keeping Mao, one Fighter and Fake Hero as my main damage dealers so they have the best gear and the majority of the levels. I have a cleric, priest, thief with gun and 1 of each elemental magic user that are optional for each level that I do. I've had no problems with any of the levels up to this point (Chapter 3) although I did cheat a little bit by grabbing 2 nice weapons off of the second map of Raspberyl's side story for Mao and Fake Hero.

If you are smart about moving and destroying geoblocks and using the player and monster toss abilities you shouldn't need to grind for the main story. All that extra stuff is just that, extra. The game is as deep as you want it to be and that's a great thing.

I'm in the US and I'm showing 13,789 people. It must be regional.

If NIS sold almost 40k (from MC data) copies of this in Japan and another 15k in North America and another 5k already in Europe (it did just launch over there, right?) then I'd have to say they did pretty well with what is essentially a fancy port of a PS3 game that had minimal costs associated with it.

Hopefully it keeps selling and we get the same treatment for Disgaea 4 and maybe even some new original content for the Vita from NIS. I wouldn't complain about that at all.

The low number isn't too bad then, with all the Vita doom and gloom online I was beginning to think that maybe they'd only sold 4.5K copies over the entirety of the Western world!

I don't get why they can't just show data for all regions though, surely it wouldn't be too hard?
