How can they be so ignorant about a Snes game? There's no way you never had the chance to play DKC.
I've never played it. Hell, I've never played an SNES game on the original hardware and gaming is my favorite hobby.

That is just impossible and unacceptable. That's like haven't ever heard a Beatles song!I've never played it. Hell, I've never played an SNES game on the original hardware and gaming is my favorite hobby.
The gaming press knows a lot less about games or even how to play them than you might think.
It's a little jarring when you first notice it.
The game is overrated but it's history is a big deal. I can't believe how much they got wrong.damn, that's a lot to get wrong...thankfully DKC is a great but slightly overrated game to be honest
This is ridiculous, these guys get paid for this trash?
Talk about an overreaction...
Is this really that big a deal? Seems like a bunch of hoopla about nothing.
I don't see anything wrong. So they played dkc and they don't know everything about the game. Most people don't.

You have some homework to do, son.
Well obviously Returns has a lot of DKC in it but I'd take DKC1 or 2 any day of the week over Returns. They have better music, better level design, and aren't cheap as all hell like Returns was. Those multiple mine cart levels and that cave one with the rocket barrel avoiding bats, ceilings, rocks and a giant bat was the absolute bane of my existence. If the old DKC games are anything like Returns, then I think I'll pass.

I haven't played Tropical Freeze but out of all the others, including DK64, I'd say DKC2 is by far the best Donkey Kong game ever made and one of the best platformers ever made. Right up there with Super Mario 3 and Yoshi's Island.
You can't spell ignorant without IGN?
This is ridiculous, these guys get paid for this trash?
I feel you OP. DKC was the first game I ever owned. Hearing about these IGN guys flub at honouring a important part of my childhood sounds terrible.
The game is overrated but it's history is a big deal. I can't believe how much they got wrong.
I'd say even better than DKC2, and I place DKC2 on a pretty high pedestal. You really should play Tropical Freeze. It's as good as DKC2 in my opinion, and one of the best platformers ever made.
Damn, I feel SO old. When I was 2, Nintendo was releasing TV-Game2) says he was two when DKC1 launched (he wasn't two. He was 4. How do I know this?)
Making lets-plays to cash in is becoming an increasingly popular trend.
I find it a bit strange to have people who were two young at this time to play those games sharing memories of them...
OP makes a good point. And many of you will see that after watching the vid (and checking out other IGN Plays vids for context). This DKC IGN Plays vid is pretty poor.
I don't know why some of you are being so mean and mocking the OP. Come on, guys.
tl,dr: IGN sucks?
lol, thanks for the breaking news, chief
Yeah, this is basically the level of quality people have come to expect from IGN.
You seem to be...overreacting. It's just people who probably haven't played the game in twenty years. I wouldn't have remembered what features were introduced in what game or every bit of info about it either.
I saw Eriq Martin at a grocery store in Phoenix yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person and congratulated him on IGN Plays, but I didn't want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, "Oh, like you're doing now"
I was taken aback, and all I could say was "Huh?" but he kept cutting me off and going "Huh? huh? huh?" and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen snickers in his hands without paying.
The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like "Sir, you need to pay for those first." At first he kept pretending to be busy and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.
When she took one of the snickers and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any RFID 'interference'," and then turned around and winked at me. After she scanned each candy bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
Agreed it confuses me why people even go to IGN.
The site isn't exactly known for high quality coverage.
I appreciate it. That's exactly what I was trying to convey.OP makes a good point. And many of you will see that after watching the vid (and checking out other IGN Plays vids for context). This DKC IGN Plays vid is pretty poor.

They're game journalists doing a lets play. It's kind of part of their job descriptions.

Opinions? They don't have to like your favorite game. They can discuss whatever they want however they want on their show whether you like it or not. Instead of complaining why not just stop watching and giving them attention?

1) one editor states he's "not into Mario games"
That's me not explaining myself clearly. What I meant to say is that after the guy accepts he has never played a DKC before he asks "what's the difference between this and a Mario game?" And the other guy responds "you're donkey as number 1" and at some point the first guy just says he wasn't a Mario fan either and later states how during the time Nintendo was releasing this platformers he was too busy playing Myst and Diablo to care.I don't really get what's wrong with this, I'm also a fan of DKC while not being into Mario games too
