Do you think 3D Sonic could be better if they tried more open level design?

....Do you really want that? Sounds like filler.

Hey can you give me a reference of that? Like a game that does that so I can picture it?

And anyone mind critiquing this video? Basically I want people to look at the video and tell me what they feel is flawed about the Unleashed Daytime style. The runs are done without boosting by the way.

Perhaps some of you would like a Sonic game like this?

I think this video properly shows what I was trying to explain: http://www.gamespot.com/videos/sonic-lost-world-gameplay-preview/2300-6413171/

For the record, Mario 3D World and 3D Land also opted for this style of more fixed camera for their games and this allowed them to add more difficult platforming sections without leaving the user struggling with camera issues, he can just focus on the gameplay.

Okay I see, a raised camera. Then why the dislike for Lost World? That game seems to be exactly what you'd like.

Nah man it went straight to garbage after the Genesis days. Worst part about new Sonic Team with all this rad and tude.

Colors, Generations and Lost World had some spectacular visual design. The perfect Sonic game has Lost World's art style and color palette, Generations' level of environment detail and a unique sense of place/position like Colors.

I have the perfect way to build a sonic game. The RIGHT way.

Use the Tony Hawk Skateboarding engine and change the skater to sonic and his legs.

Remove all the "rails areas", have him be fast, but not too fast. Rather than being all about going super fast along set up tracks (which is just shit, utter crap!) in order to go fast he needs to build up momentum. Use a half pipe to go back and forth back and forth to get heaps of speed and then turn in the middle of the return down stroke and speed off in another direction. I dream of this happening but I never will, but honestly it is the best idea - I believe.

I agree that the fundamental problem in the 3D games is how Sonic controls and the physics he uses to interact with the environment. The number of auto-boosts and segments without user control in the 2D games is extremely small. The speed needs to be earned, not automatic.

May I have a cookie?
I don't get it, watching through this speedrun of Lost World was a joy, definitely made me want to get the game once I have a Wii U, and honestly reminded me more of classic Sonic than the Unleashed Daytime levels or even Generations.

There's a ton of variety and for the most part it looks like it works really well. Was this game not well received because people couldn't adjust to the changes it made? This speedrun shows quite perfectly that it's worth the effort to learn how to play.

Thats why its a damn shame when you see fan-made projects.. Sega! copy this format a little and expand!

that looks very interesting too.

I don't think Sonic is viable in any form beyond that of the original Genesis trilogy. Every subsequent game has proven this to a lesser or greater degree.
