Isn't Sparkling the actual name in Japan for the series?

The actual name is 'Budokai Tenkaichi'.

And the name never got localizated as far as I know. I remember they trying to promove as 'Raging Burst' for Xbox 360, but PS2 have 3 'Budokai Tenkaichi' games without changing the name.

In fact I have the 4 games with me right now. Budokai Tenkaichi 2, Budokai Tenkaichi 3, Raging Burst and the other with I don't remember the right name. Is a Xbox 360 as well.

There are like 10 versions of Goku, I like more transforming during fights.

Yeah, let's extrapolate that out and that's like 25 different characters.

Never understood why transformations are their only character. Working towards a transformation is part of the fun.

It is. Budokai tenkaichi was the western name (with the japanese names being sparking, sparking neo and sparking meteor in that order) and the english versions were named as such because bandai wanted to take advantage of the budokai games’ success

Its funny because they have it backwards. The translation shouldve been tenkaichi budokai

Speaking of backwards, did anyone else notice goku yelled out kayo-ken like in the old dub instead of kaio-ken?

All 165 will be available day one as this is a Tenkaichi game, but others will likely be added in DLC packs later.
To add to this, tenkaichi 3 had 161 characters with around 24 of them being goku/vegeta alts so this isnt really that big of a deal

Im guessing the roster will be mostly unchanged aside from gt characters being replaced by super

Edit: oh and raging blast 1 and 2 had 77 and 100 respectively. So this is still an improvement over those at least

In the past games, sure those characters got release inside the disk day one.

But lets be honest, in recent days of season pass, is very unlikely.

As other fans of DBZ like myself already said, this number is just a ruse to make the cast higher, since they consider transformations to be like different characters.

And is not like DB series doesn't have a huge cast of characters. Its just that they feel the need to put 50 Gokus and 50 Vegetas in every game.

I just hope this number will be on the base game, not like the complete garbage Fighter Z was.

I watched the trailer more carefuly and it seems you can transform amid fights, not 100% sure tho maybe they edited it to look that way but I hope you can as that's way more fun than straight choosing already transformed characters.

Past games transformation happens inside the battle. You can either pick the transformed version or just transform inside the battle.

Well, at least Budokai Tenkaichi was always that.

Budokai Tenkachi games are all the same. Even though Goku SS is a different character, Goku can transform into SS normally. Every other transformation was possible, even fusions.

they represent the main characters at different point in the story... early goku will be all about kaiohken for example
let's just hope they are distinct enough

yup, and the games are just meant to be a giant toybox for however you want to play. it would be weird to re-enact the gohan vs cell fight if the battle started off with cell in his imperfect form

In the older games could you choose higher level transformation, and go back to base?

I.e. super Saiyan 2 back to base. Then from base to super Saiyan, super Saiyan 2, etc.?

I never played any of the BT games (only the original Budokai -non-Tenkaichi games).

That makes sense. Story wise.

Thats tricky.
From what I remember if choose for instance Goku SS2 you can't go back to SS or base. But I think you can if you choose base Goku and transform all the way to SS2.
Well thats a new game I suppose, perhaps they can change that. But it would be weird give the chance of a person picking a Super form only to go back to normal.

I had a BT game for the ps2 I think it was BT 2 and you couldn't transform amid fights, that sucked, the rest of the games were ok you could transform normally.

That was 1, transformations were added in 2 and became the norm going forward

Playing the cell games arena mode with friends, limited to one form was a blast though.

Man, I used to love the dub growing up. Now I prefer Japanese for DBZ. Maybe playing the Yakuza games in Japanese for so long is the reason.

I suspect more than half of gt’s roster was cut alongside some of the smaller roles from og dragonball. Super is the current media so a good chunk of the roster will definitely focus on that.

It would be cool to see some of the what-if forms come back like ssj3 vegeta and broly

Is DBZ popular with Zoomers, or is this just leaning heavily on Millennials still? I'm confused how these DBZ products keep selling these days.

Anyways, just like any DBZ game, if I ever get it, it'll be on deep discount in a few years with the full cast unlocked.

BT3 went all out for different forms and character versions. Like if you go from SSJ Trunks to Chunks (ascended SSJ) you'd hit harder but you'd move and punch slower like he did against 2nd Form Cell. Even small details like picking Goku (Mid) and transforming to SSJ, he'd have his fluffy soft hair style against Frieza instead of his more rigid (and darker yellow/gold) hair style during Cell/Buu. Even characters who had scouters like early Vegeta, Dodoria and Freiza would USE THEM after being blinded to find the opponent because they can't sense Ki. It's amazing how much detail they actual put into the game, and I hope they do the same here.

My kids and their friends watch it. (Primary school age). I don’t think it’s as big as Pokemon though, but it still features in content they watch on YouTube which is where they learn about most things.

Yes, you are right. I made the research and confirm that.

Strange that the trailer and the game icon still use the term 'Budolai Tenkaichi'.
