Dragon's Dogma 2 | New Previews Are coming up

The one thing I needed to know, I had to look up... And I can't say I'm happy about the sound of it. :-\

I trust Itsuno and will eventually get over it I'm sure, but it sounds like they nerfed one of my most favorite elements from the orignal that I've preached about for years now;
Layered Armor

RGJ/USAT: Are you able to talk about the changes to the armor system and the reasons behind them? It seems like it has been simplified. Is the Under Armour or clothing layer gone? Will there eventually be a transmog option? And will players be able to do equipment presets?

Itsuno: So for Dragon’s Dogma 2, we changed the armor system and simplified it with the goal that people choose different things to have more visual variety. We wanted to balance it in a way so that people wouldn’t end up always choosing the same things.

In that regard, we added more variety and simplified the system. Rather than having an inner and outer, we divided the equipment for the upper half of the body and the lower half of the body. We added helms and capes. There are some presets but overall, well, something that happened in the previous game at high levels was that people would go for the same kind of equipment in the end. This time we made a conscious goal of trying to create something that even at higher levels, people would be encouraged to choose different things. So there will be some visual variety into what people were choosing.

Maybe I'm reading into it wrong and will be fine... Variety is good of course, and was to be expected... But I absolutely loved mixing and matching clothing and armor.

Godammit... *ssiiiiggghhhh

Bitches worrying about frame rates while a key feature has been REMOVED from the game... Y'all get your heads our your asses and buy a better PC if you want to piss and moan about fRameRatEZ... . The "simplified armor" thing is a much greater issue that a $5000 PC still won't "fix".

PS5 Pro can't come soon enough because of crap like this.
as long we keep just giving consoles more and more horsepower, devs ll try to brute force performance instead of doing fine optimization for the game.

I miss the old times when we had one console per generation, we started generations with games like uncharted and ended with games like tlou, making full use of the console capabilities, nowaday is more like "lets uncap framerate and wait for more horsepower, who needs optimized games now when the next console can just bruteforce performance."

Imagine crying about no swimming :messenger_grinning_sweat:. Performance bros are just as anoying has graphics wh*res. Not locked 30fps *litterally unplayable hot trash*
The swimming was more sarcasm than anything…but the performance is unacceptable in a game that focuses so heavily on combat. I also personally, never once said the game was trash or didn’t look good at all. You can try to lump all the complaints into one person/category, but that just makes it sound like you are in cope mode more than anything.

But thats where we are sadly

Nah i'm good, the framerate and resolution crusaders are the one coping preventing them to enjoy things IMO. As others in the thread point out the are some design choices more important to consider.

I've been waffling between this and Rise of the Ronin. The latest previews of each have pretty much cemented DD2 as being the correct choice.

The game being harder and no stamina management outside of combat are music to my ears.
Is the stamina thing from Black Hokage's video? Could've swore as he was saying that I watched him sprint and lose stamina just like the first game.

Haven't watched all the previews though and didn't really pay attention until he mentioned it.

Modern journalists getting even easy stuff wrong would not surprise me a bit tbh.

my "guess" is that the game is running with RTGI all the time, i dont understant too why this game is so performance heavy.
The hope is to have advanced AI\interaction\destruction that are worth the hit on performance.

That is what they are glazing over since the reveal.

What is so great about Dragons Dogma? I tried it multiple times, but never stuck with it.
The game is Elden Ring from 2012, but at that time no one cared.
- Big open world with almost 0 hand holding.
- Quests that u really need to play attention to continue.
- Sidequests that can only be re-done on ng+ If you fail then.
- Meanifull character creator for the time that ll affect how you aproach somethings in the game.
- Day/Night cicle that really affect gameplay.
- Amazing combat system with a good balance.

What will change if it comes with the "same" zen 2 CPU?

The PS5's VRR limitation has nothing to do with the CPU. Both the consoles have pretty similar CPUs. On Xbox 120hz VRR is a system-level feature, even works on BC games. Theoretically the PS5's VRR issue could be due to the lower bandwidth on the PS5's HDMI port, meaning a Pro console could resolve that.

Its like most Souls games, that If u fuck some Sidequest u are done for that playthrough.
And from one of the previews it might not even be as simple as "you fucked up so: quest failed"

One preview talked about a quest to find a lost boy that was apparently dragged off. One person immediately went after the boy and saved him while another person dicked around and the boy was dead by the time they got around to it. Both seemed to progress the quest.

Might only be certain quests with different outcomes but it'd be great if they implement something like that for most/all of them.

Most of the "fallible" quests on the first game are escort sidequest, that once you accept the person you need to escort ll follow you until the end of times, but If u let this person die, they are done for good and that can affect some future sidequests, but If u dont feel ready to escort that person at that time u can aways return the quest to the questboard and accept again later.

There is differents outcomes on the first game too, for exemple
there is a sidequest early on the game that you are asked to help a rich person to evict some poor folks of his lands, If u take too long the rich guy ll handle the metter himself and later u discover that he killed the family.

Bit of a stretch, the variety\quantity of content of almost everything was nowhere near elden ring, same for the quality of the art design (locations, trash mobs, npcs, weapons, bosses etc.) nor the level design of the map or the dungeons.

Same for the good balance, but tbf, elden ring isn't exactly super balanced aswell, at least at launch.

The game had a lot of great ideas and it was indeed not hand-holdy like ER,but it was also deeply flawed, way more than ER.
I know that is a bit of a stretch but remember that this is an open world ARPG from 12 years ago and imo this game did basically everything that Elden Ring ( minus the lore) did at the core level, but cleary with not the same level of polish.

I cry about Xbox and hate PlayStation.

and the game has 1 save file only, if it autosaves yikes.
