EVE Valkyrie to be included free w/Oculus Rift pre-orders

Rift pre-orders are not yet open and no date but EVE Valkyrie (+ another unrevealed title) will be included for free:
Creator of the Oculus Rift, Palmer Luckey himself, had this to say of the news: “EVE: Valkyrie is one of the most anticipated virtual reality games, and one of the first true VR games to go into development. It perfectly captures the promise of immersive gaming, shooting you into a sci-fi adventure as you pilot a spaceship in search of combat. Battling your friends (and enemies) in multiplayer space dogfights is the ultimate VR thrill, and we’re excited to partner with CCP to bring this experience to Rift owners everywhere."

Obviously, this confirms the title will be a launch experience for the Oculus Rift, which will also come bundled with an Xbox One controller. That’s what fans can expect to use to pilot their craft as they take part in multiplayer battles. EVE: Valkyrie itself will also be arriving on the PlayStation VR HMD on PlayStation 4, though it’s yet to be revealed when this version will launch.

We're thrilled to announce that @EVEValkyrie, by @CCPGames, will be bundled with the #Rift at launch next year!

It looks great.

Probably one of the best choices they could have picked, can't think of any single piece of VR software that I'm more excited for at the moment.

Seems like a great choice. I haven't played it, but Elite remains the most incredible VR game I've tried and visually this looks just as strong (and without the scope and complexity of Elite that would put some people off).

EVE: Valkyrie was the first VR-game I have ever tried...I think at Gamescom 2013. I got a press invitation and thought:"Ok, you have some time. This won`t be thaaaaat bad". I came in with no expectations but it blew me away! I was directly sold on VR and have played a newer build at this years Gamescom. This game just works perfectly in VR and is super fun!

Oculus couldn`t have chosen a better game. This is one of the Blockbuster-games for VR and everyone will get it! I hope Sony will also bundle a game with PS VR. EVE: Valkyrie won`t work, but maybe something like London Heist.

PlayRoom is the default game included with the PS4 OS so I'm guessing PlayRoom VR will be as well.

Well, yes. But let us be honest. Playroom VR isn`t as good and fun as EVE: Valkyrie. Playroom is a nice demo, but nothing you will play for 10 or more hours unlike EVE: Valkyrie. Like another one said:

Sony needs to include a game like Oculus which has enough motivation for many hours of fun or a demo disc which gets many experiences for VR. So you could try London Heist, Battlezone, EVE: Valkyrie, Driveclub VR and all the other games that have dramatically different experiences. This could also work well.

I'm still curious as to how meaty some of these early VR games are going to be. Would this have been a full fledged $60 title if it were released seperately? Also makes me wonder how long games like Luckeys Tale, Chronos, and Edge Of Nowhere will be.

i got invited into the alpha test for this but it seems to need a current valid EVE login which is never gonna happen, shame cos i was excited to play it

Man, there's too many VR options that I'm excited for. Probably going to wind up with an occulus and a psvr for Rez.

I've got a feeling the camps will be pretty clear once all the players actually announce their prices.

Makes sense as a solid free Rift game - I played a beta and had some good times! Does seem to be an experience-grind multiplayer-focused (only?) game, so I expect microtransactions. Hopefully it won't feel too f2p.

Have they announced any single player beyond bot matches?

whichever one has some sort of porn support first wins..

I guess the Rift dev kits or the GearVR is your winner already.

Exactly. How hard can it be.

Very hard when each company understands that when their price is as much as a game console for a headset, a lot of people will write it off the moment the price is made official. Each one of these companies is going to face an uphill battle because of the pricing.

Really? I haven't heard anything about that.

60fps campaign-level trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SI1CB4rcf8

The standalone videogame, which is due to be published by Oculus VR in partnership with creators CCP Games is, VRFocus can confirm, to receive a specific single-player story campaign based off of the content shown within the trailer from this year’s EVE Fanfest. A demo being shown at Gamescom is based off the map that was a part of that trailer with, CCP Games confirming to us today that it will be in the final game and possess a story arc all of its own.

Really? I haven't heard anything about that.

Yes and Katee Sackhoff is doing voice acting for a character called Rán Kavik who is a rebellious leader of the Valkyrie. She plays Starbuck/Kara Thrace in Battlestar Galactica.

The Valkyrie is a squad in the Guristas Pirates faction. (EVE lore)

Not much info on the story campaign of Valkyrie, however I'd love to see CCP flex their creativity in a singleplayer game, EVE has fantastic lore which exists in the MMO but is overshadowed by the player-driven sandbox nature of the game (which is awesome and why I play EVE, just would also like to see CCP do a full out singleplayer game based on EVE's lore)

Didn't need an EVE login at all for my concurrent participation...

This game is indescribable, I wish I could share in depth detail but believe me it's the perfect pack-in game for the Rift for sure.

So will this one work on Vive straight natively or not ?
Nope. Thanks Oculus... Modding support/features into normal 2D monitor games is one thing but will be interesting to see what/if they are able to do so with VR due to extreme lag sensibilities (the existing *<20ms target was a hard won combination of software and hardware).

Not really. They will sell faster then they can make them for quite a while at any price. The demand is extremely high.

I need this to be out ASAP beause when I heard EVE Valkyrie would be included I threw my wallet at my monitor and now it's broken so I need a VR helmet to play games Oculus pls

There's no single-player campaign, but there are several offline missions and modes. The focus is multiplayer, though.

Fyi, there's still some confusion over what single player offerings are included over on Reddit.

I'm guessing the base release will be primarily multiplayer, with some single player mission scenarios like the one in that video, and maybe they'll do a full campaign expansion someday. (or not)

Not a fan of FozzieSOV?

Well nothings happening lately. All the big wars have dried up. Even the small scale stuff is a bit boring. Having said that I have played the game for 10 years so it's just me being a bitter old vet. Something will happen sooner all later.

the people who were already buying one didnt need this incentive. They probably would have bought the game with it.

This must be some kind of propaganda thing.
